Sitting in the hills, state forests, and home of grand outdoor tourist destination is Grandma Faye’s! You need to drive past Old Man’s Cave and Hocking Hills Dining Lodge on 664 to find this treasure. Grandma Faye’s is in business to meet the needs of hikers, campers, backpackers, the outdoor enthusiast and passerby. For me and my family, Grandma Faye’s is an establishment that serves ice cream and has bags of ice. On our camping trips we typically fill the coolers with a nice fresh cold ice. It is also to my families enjoyment to grab some ice cream either from the cooler or hand dipped cones or hand spun milkshakes. Grandma Faye’s has a large gift shop, firewood, deli, groceries, soda pop, all the things you would need at the campsite in the event you ran out. It is not uncommon to see families sitting outside enjoying ice cream, eating pizza or french fries, or enjoying a nice cold soda. The parking lot is quite large so you will see lots of bikes. Take the time to stop by Grandma Faye’s.

This is a decent place if you’ve forgotten something on your trip to Hocking Hills. Groceries, souvenirs, camping supplies. Convenient location. However, the signs everywhere are off putting: «We’re watching you» «Shoplifters will be prosecuted.» «Please don’t touch unless buying.» I understand to an extent, but the atmosphere here is weird and uncomfortable. I felt like I was doing something wrong the entire time. The cashier never greeted us. She never asked, «Did you find everything you were looking for?» And she definitely didn’t thank us or wish a nice day. Will not return here. Would rather drive 20 minutes out of my way than be made to feel like a nuisance.

Stay away from this place… though they are ready to take your money for things they sell inside, they will direct every customer to use the portable toilet located next to the busy highway for not only using the restroom but also washing your hands, and that is only if you consider sanitizing your hands as washing your hands. So, let me set the stage… if you want to eat one of their sandwiches or something from their deli, you will have to use the absolutely filthy SINGLE portable toilet to clean up. This is a public health hazard. Not to mention, a slap in the face to the customers that patronize the establishment. If it is raining, too bad, go outside. If it is cold, too bad, go outside. If the portable toilet is full of ****, too bad, go outside. They are not required to provide indoor restroom facilities, but you know that your employees are not going outside to use the bathroom and thank God, since you serve food there. I pray that you do not go out of business and know that you have been there for a number of years, but with a building that size, I would recommend you think about a public toilet, while you still have some clientele.

The employees were much friendlier than another general store we had stopped at.(theone that advertises 26 flavors of soft serve ice cream) The pizza we ordered was homemade and decent — considering I thought it was going to be a frozen one they’d cook up. Had tables outside that gave us some shade. I don’t think they had any inside. Prices were reasonable.

This is one of the only places in town for a quick stop last min shop. It does have alot of things to choose from. Last min gifts for the family, cold drinks. ice cream, and dinner/lunch options. I purchased a beautiful wind chime here for 15.99 and Ordered my Fiancé an I lunch; Chicken breast sandwich with fries, which were delcious and he ordered fried mushrooms and pizza, the pizza did seem very doughy, but all in all the place over all gets 5 stars.

2.5 stars, really, and ditto to everything in Lisa’s review. I was pleased at the selection at Grandma Faye’s — we were able to grab a quick dinner, plus groceries for breakfast in our cabin the next day — but I had hoped it would be a good little café, with a convenience store attached. Instead it was a convenience store that offered a little bit of «fresh» food. And my advice on that is: get the cold stuff.(Sandwiches, pasta salad, etc.) My ham and cheese sandwich was fine, and the mac and cheese was okay, but my boyfriend’s pizza-by-the-slice wasn’t.(In fairness, a family next to us ordered a full pizza, and that looked different/better.)

Let me start by saying I think this place has lots of potential. I think what has happened here is someone has become jaded. The store itself is great for travelers. With groceries, a hardware section, souvenirs and everything else you could possibly need, this place is perfect if you’ve forgotten something or need a snack. However, what looks like a friendly stop from the road quickly turns into a place that admonishes you at every turn. Don’t touch the toys. Don’t pick this up. Don’t shoplift. We are watching you. Even the most honest visitor will feel as though he or she has done something wrong. Now, to a certain degree, I understand. I really do. I see the people who visit during peak season. They don’t follow Hocking Hills State Park rules, so why the heck would they be respectful in a store? They’re climbing all over places clearly marked as «no trail» and«danger» so I wouldn’t put it past them to cause trouble elsewhere. That being said, people remember friendliness. I don’t like to patronize places where I feel like I’m doing something wrong just by being present. While I identify with the need to cut down on stealing and loss, I think the simple thing to do would be to post a single sign on the front door stating that there are cameras. The rest is overkill.

After hiking 5 miles around Old Man’s Cave, I needed two things. Ice Cream and Beer. Okay, maybe I needed three things — Ice Cream, Beer and a Hot Tub. Grandma Faye’s was at least able to provide me with the first two luxuries and two out of three ain’t bad. Grandma Faye’s Grocery isn’t anything to get excited and write home about. It’s a very standard general store providing you with a large amount of boxed and canned goods, trinkets, fudge, ice cream and of course the holiest of all holy camping gear — beer. Which Grandma keeps both cold and cheap. You’ll be able to spot Grandma Faye’s coming around the bend — it’s one of the larger buildings on this country road. She is also home to a country fair style french fry stand in her parking lot. Grandma Faye is an outpost for the weary and for anyone who forgot to pack a toothbrush and toothpaste on their camping trip.
