Al’s Sporting Goods

I love going to Al’s for sporting goods. They carry a much nicer selection of gear than a typical «box» sporting goods store, so you can find budget items, and also top-​of-​the-​line gear for almost any occasion.

I worked with the online department, I had confusion with an avalanche beacon sale. Their staff handle my order swiftly and genuinely, and gave me a rocking deal.

Al’s Sporting Goods has built up a reputation of being the best sporting goods store in Cache Valley, and they constantly prove to me why they hold that reputation. Their staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of what they sell. Anyone that complains about their prices have apparently never taken advantage of their price match guarantee, or any of the multiple tent sales they have throughout the year. However, even if I have to pay a little more, the expertise of their team is always worth the extra dollar or two.
I have had so many positive experiences with so many employees over the years. They just keep on impressing me time and time again. Keep up the great work!

Great selection, little overpriced. Big issue is finding helpful staff. If thy are around it helps if you already know exactly what your after.

Ok so probably growing pains, visited the new Al’s. Purchased a new children’s bicycle. I had to break into the flirtatious «staff meeting» at the counter after standing and watching 5 feet away with my daughter for what seemed like 5 mins. Then I received blank stares as I asked if someone could help get the bicycle my daughter and I had selected without assistance off the rack. If I hadn’t traveled to pick up the bicycle I would have left without making the purchase. The store was empty 2:00 in the afternoon. Bummer I had high hopes for the new store.

The best sporting goods store in town! Als has great deals on a variety of objects ranging from backpacking, to rock climbing, to ammunition and more. On occasion they will have huge sales for as much as 40% off.

Al’s has fantastic sales right before Christmas! Our family buys a lot of our Christmas gifts there. However, when they are busy around the holidays, their customer service is very poor. It seems as if their female employees are snooty and rude, too.

Great local sporting goods store. Great sales throughout the year. This store has a little bit of everything for men, women, and children, from yoga to hunting.

I really want to like Al’s, but their customer service is so bad! It seems like everytime I go in there I wait around for someone to help me, and then just get frustrated and leave. This is especially true if you need help in either the footwear or climbing sections of the store.

FINAL UPDATE:
Today I received my replacement order and as promised, they were the correct size in Men’s and they arrived in just in time. Although I am still quite disappointed with the color scheme, in this situation Al’s Sporting Goods did a good job of turning a poor experience into a satisfactory one.
I’m pleased and thankful to the Customer Service reps that helped rectify the transaction and in an age where online purchasing is becoming more and more frequent, it’s good to know that there are stores out there that still incorporate the most necessary aspect of the human element, which is trust and responsibility.
While I can understand and appreciate the fact that many are still apprehensive about buying things online, I would not hesitate to suggest Al’s were someone to ask me what I thought about them.
Thanks again to the reps at the store for fixing their mistake. It is well appreciated.
This is a temporary review based on an internet purchase.
Scenario: Ordered a pair of Men’s shoes as a gift for a friend.
Negatives:
Took longer than expected for them to ship it out.
They shipped me a pair of Women’s shoes.
I spoke to customer service on the phone and although they did offer to try and fix the situation. I am currently waiting for a pre-​paid shipping label to send back the wrong item they shipped me and with any luck they may be able to get me the replacement pair by Friday.
I will update this review as soon as an outcome has been determined.
UPDATE: The company was able to ship me out a replacement order after I had dropped off the return order at UPS.
Positives:
The company is taking responsibility and being as helpful as possible.
The new estimated shipping date is Friday– so a very quick turn-​around.
Negatives:
I had to leave work early in order to drop off the return package at UPS.
The original item I ordered is no longer in stock and the replacement order, while the same item, is in a very undesirable color scheme.
I will update this again upon receipt of new order and depending on how everything works out, this could very well be a horrible experience transformed into a good one.

More towards the cycling department, my experience with Al’s has always been great! I went in to pick up some bearings for my bike and before I walked out the door one of the staff members made sure that I knew exactly how to install the bearings, that I had the right grease and how much torque to apply. Amazing customer service !

They really need to work on their customer service. I have been there numerous times and usually leave irritated due to poor customer service. Their selection is ok, but I prefer to shop where employees appreciate my business.

Prices are very high. They sell everything at MSRP, rather than even a standard list price. Their building is really incredible, and their selection is great. I love how they have high quality product, but their aren’t helpful and come across as arrogant. They know their stuff, but just don’t come down to the level of the customer to express care and empathy. They need to do better at this, and make their in store prices much more affordable. If they can’t adapt their store to meet the online competition, then I won’t be buying from their store anymore.

Excellent service, had exactly what I needed. When I mentioned a competitor had the item at a lower price I was offered a discount. Amazing, unexpected, and appreciated.

I am a big fan of shopping locally-​owned small businesses.
I live close to Al’s and they have a good assortment of a lot of gear we use. The staff has strong knowledge, especially in the categories Al’s focusses on. I like the overall vibe of the place, helpful without being pushy.
The biggest knock against Al’s is that they are generally the highest price in town on the gear. They do have some good sales though. Check the sales and remember to shop local!

Just ordered a pair of Sorels 2 days ago from this company and I already received the shoes! I found them through google search and they had the best price by 20 – 50 bucks! Awesome, I am buying all of my sporting/​exercise goods from here now on!
