I have only ever ordered take-out from here, so my review will be centered around that. Love their egg rolls — was hesitant about the shrimp being included automatically, but it turns out to be a great combination with pork. They are also fried fresh, as many of them still come shiny with oil, but once I let them rest for a minute or two outside of the bag, they’re so delicious! Their pork dumplings are a swing or miss though, which is my biggest complaint. In fact, the last time I ordered them, they came extremely sour, as if the pork had gone completely rancid. So I actually stopped ordering those altogether, since the dumplings(like much of their food) can be a little expensive, even for a small size. As a replacement, their sesame chicken is quite tasty, and comes with white rice which is a good compliment and soaks up the extra sweet sauce. All-in-all, a good place when I’m at work and hankering for some higher quality Chinese food than your average fast-food, overly-fried and greasy Chinese take out places, especially those in the city. Their ordering process is a little… dreadful, as I have been hung up on twice(whether by accident or on purpose, I don’t know), and the waitresses on the other end will just start taking an in-person customer’s order suddenly while I’m still on the phone placing my order. It comes across as a little disorganized and a bit rude, but the food more often than not is worth it.

Have eaten their food twice in the last few weeks. Met some friends here for an impromptu dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The pad tai was excellent and the poached salmon was exceptional… moist and flavored beautifully. A week or so later we ordered in. The delivery was quick and the food as good as when we ate in the restaurant. I will definitely be eating here again.

Delicious. Good size portions. Incredibly fast delivery — it took 12 minutes from the time we ordered tonight for us to receive our dinner for 3 on the other side of Livingston.

I am obsessed with this place and their food is so good. It is fresh, not greasy, and super flavorful. Their vegetable fried rice is to die for, whenever I am in the area I stop by to pick up food, even after I just ate. So glad to have finally found a GOOD Chinese spot.

This place is decent overall. I give it an average rating because it’s inconsistent. I actually find takeout is better then dine in which doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Very good always! No other place around north jersey is as good in my opinion and I eat lots of this food, over the years, in so many different places, so I think I would know between what is good and not so good in Asian-American cuisine. The place is fair priced and NOT that expensive at all, as some reviews stated, well, it is untrue. If you are comparing prices to that of a take out only place, this place is STILL very competitive in price for sure and for much better quality, ingredients and food, we eat here regularly and do not even live close by, so we travel to eat here as it is well worth the trip to us.

TAKEOUTREVIEWONLY Usually Chinese take out is JUST Chinese take out to me, but this changed my view on that. I ordered the Hunan Chicken and the Lemongrass Beef(which is now my new favorite Chinese dish). Both dishes were not oily and tasted very fresh. Also, I love that this place puts a lot of fresh vegetables in the dish and they give a free side of edamame when you order over $ 30! A lot of places give only one piece of broccoli!!! Order here if you are willing to spend an extra couple bucks for fresher BETTER Chinese food. $ 15 Min. for free delivery to West Orange. They also serve other surrounding areas.

This is definitely the best Chinese restaurant within a 10 mile radius. At least in my opinion. It seems to be an an ex-Friendy’s, so therefore has the high arch New England Peyton Place structure. On that frame, it’s pretty modern décor. There is a special with lunch/dinner for a $ 1 appetizer. The Roti is good but the hot and sour soup is great and supposedly veg. This is one place where you can order the Hunan style, the Cantonese Style, the Scechwan Style or the Shanghai style dishes. The Hunan Shrimp is very good, as is the cold noodle with sesame and the Kung Po chicken. Two tips: 1. The posted hours say 9:30 pm close but they seem to strictly enforce a 9:15 close. Would be a little more hospitable to post 9:15 or post 9:00. 2. There are no sound absorbing materials except for the other customers. They should look into hanging baffles or get softer chairs. It would cut the sound level down a lot

The building itself is deceiving, not to mention the name…(I thought it was a diner or coffee shop!) Nevertheless, I’m glad I walked in. Turned out to be a nice sit down Asian fusion restaurant! Their Pad Thai was delicious and so was their Chicken & Bok Choy! It definitely left me craving for a second visit. 88 Café is perfect for couples, or parties of two to 4 people. It’s a small but quaint restaurant, and their food tastes fresh and delicious. You have the option to choose from Chinese or Japanese dishes, and have a decent menu list to choose from. Hate Chinese fast food?! You found the right place!

This place has struck out in my book. I will not return. The price for what you get for a lunch is excessive. I got maybe 5 pathetic strands of chicken in my chicken and broccoli lunch special. I was quickly told that no soup comes with it. Just rice. For 9 bucks… really? Then to top it off I found a nice small piece of metal(maybe from a Brillo pad or brush??) in my food. Overpriced, hardly any chicken, with a side of metal. No thanks café 88.(This came on the heels of my last visit during which I got take out and the woman gave me attitude after SHE got my order wrong and gave me the wrong items.)

Good for a quick bite on a busy night, but not authentic and too pricy for my liking when there are many other cheaper and better chinese restaurants nearby

I tried one of their Thai dishes today –vegetable pad Thai. It was delicious. I also started with the refreshing salad with ginger. dressing. Service is always excellent and pleasant. Lunch menu portions were generous. I must try their ice cream on my next visit the green tea or red bean ice creams sounds yummy!

This is my go to sushi spot. The sushi is always fresh and they make it without the rice for me, I don’t like rice. The delivery is sometimes slow but that’s because they are so popular. I gave this place 4 stars because it’s service can be slow and they frequently forget things, such as sauces and rice. On one occasion they did forget to delivery half of my order and didn’t realize until about 2 hours later. These are things I can overlook because the food is just that good. I’ve tried their orange chicken, I wasn’t too impressed but I think this place is mostly known for sushi. Give this place a shot!

I’m always wary of places that are overextending themselves by offering Chinese, Japanese, Thai and more or less pan-Asian cuisine, and this place is no different. They do everything just fine, but nothing is exceptional – with the exception of their wonton soup which is light, not too salty and just about as fine a version as I’ve had. The rest of the food is just standard Americanized Asian fare. The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly and accommodating, but in the end, a restaurant comes down to food, and while this is a fine place for occasional take out, there is nothing standout that makes this place special.

A group of us came here for lunch. We were impressed by the large, reasonably priced lunch menu options and by the large restaurant and ample seating. The waiter was also very friendly. The food on the other hand, was just okay. One of my friends order the chicken and broccoli, which she really liked. I had the Singapore style Mei Fun, which was really dry and bland. Two people had sushi and they were underwhelmed by the how small the rolls were and the taste. I’m gonna give this place 3 stars because the free miso soup was probably one of the best I’ve tasted and it had plenty of seaweed and tofu. Also, they provide free hot green tea for the table, which is a nice touch.

I’ve never been a fan of getting sushi from a Chinese restaurant. I have nothing to base that on, I just always felt it should be from a place dedicated to making sushi. That said, while I am not a sushi aficionado, I really enjoy the sushi from Café 88. My favorites include the shrimp tempura roll, shrimp and avocado(or cucumber) roll and the spicy tuna and avocado roll(my hands down favorite!). Everything tastes really fresh. I recently started getting delivery from here which I hate doing in the ‘burbs(it always takes too long and my food is cold when it gets here), but whether I order sushi or Chinese from here and have it delivered, they are quicker than I would have expected.
