This really is as good as it gets. I haven’t been to this salon in years since I moved out of state, but I still wax nostalgic for Ladykin Salon. If it was my choice, I wouldn’t let anyone but the owner do my hair for the rest of my life. The first time I had my hair done, I walked in wanting a cut and color. I asked for straight-across bangs, and she scoffed and said, «Oh. NO.» I wanted my naturally dark brown hair to be bumped up to a light warm brown for summer. Again, she clicked her tongue at me. She said something to her assistant in Korean, who translated it into Spanish for me, which was weird since I’m Asian … no one assumes I speak Spanish. I expected disaster. I was frightened by the lack of communication, that fact that she clearly was not doing what I asked. As she did my hair, though, she explained to me in halting English that the style of bangs I asked for would not be the best for my round face, and that because I had unusually fine Asian hair, that lightening my hair that much could damage my already delicate hair. In the end, she gave me flattering sideswept bangs and beautiful blended highlights that gave me a great summery look. She had listened to what I had asked, but did everything in a way that was most flattering to me. THIS is what I go to a professional hairdresser for. I go for their expertise, for their artistry.
