I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by this old courthouse. Given that Cass county is rural and not really flush with cash, I expected the place to be run down at best and most likely dilapidated. Boy, was I surprised. This old building has been recently remodeled. It’s a small footprint building, so there was not tons of square space to renovate, but they did a good job on what was there. The tile and walls were in great shape. The individual rooms had been updated, including the jury room, with a nice sink and cupboard. The grand old courtroom looked refurbished when I peeked in. My attorney friend says it had been abandoned for a long time and used for storage, so it is now back to the way it looked many years ago. They even updated the county clerk’s record vault. the vault doors were repainted and they look great. Everyone working here was really nice. They helped me out with my needs and got me in and out in a jiff. I wish all courthouse experiences were this good.
