Place is closed. Phone line disconnected. Strange stories from owner every time someone went there: his employees were stealing from him, next time… machines stopped working… third time… no story — door locked…

Recently, I had two sets of Eastern European workmen at my home renovating the floors and painting. They were really great guys doing a wonderful job, so I wanted to buy them lunch. Looking for a place nearby, I found Balkan Boy Brand. A small place in a strip mall on Peterson Road in Libertyville — chock full of jams, coffees, and other foods — and an aroma that makes you hungry when you walk in the door. I moseyed up to the counter and surveyed a wall mounted menu. The owner was very helpful too and I learned that burke is the house speciality. I explained what I was doing and he had some great suggestions. I ordered a filet steak sandwich, and 2 burkes — one with beef and onions and the other was a leek and mushroom. He also suggested the cherry or apple strudel and some yogurt drinks. The workman devoured the food and wanted to know where did I get such tasty and authentic Balkan cuisine. The prices are very reasonable and the owner cares about quality, c;cleanliness, and — most fall — the customers. The workmen’s response to the food encouraged me to go back and order a burke for myself. It was outstanding and I am hooked. The Picky Companion also loves the beef and onion burke and the strudels. Though the workmen raved about the yogurt drinks, neither of us really like yogurt, so we didn’t buy any. We did stop another time and got the smelts and a filet sandwich. Both were excellent and the smelts were not greasy — which is important to me. Strong recommend.. .. .

Best Burek I’ve had in America! Just as good as from back home. Always made fresh just like the pastries.
The pljeskavice (burgers) are excellent, I recommend everything on it for the full experience. It’s a generous helping of quality meat and traditional toppings. I find myself coming back weekly. Phone orders welcome which is a major plus for me :)
