Sorry, but this place is nasty! Cheese Whiz for queso should have been a sign of what was to come. Never again!

Locals only* My family and I have been going here for just over 20 years. Best hole in the wall spot, this is a family run restaurant. The portion size are not big, but you will still leave full(They also have great catfish here as well). This is an old restaurant and out of date but the food is great, don’t judge a book by the cover. These guys know how to really cook. Try it out if you’re not a yuppie Hope you enjoy!

Yes this place is a hole in the wall. But the service has always been great and they have the best fried chicken. I know its a Mexican food place but their fried chicken is what my family goes there for.

Looking for non-greasy Mexican food? This is the place in Liberty Hill. The tacos are better than I can make and I can do a pretty mean taco. The service is so friendly and their ice tea tastes like real Texas tea! We have tried cheese enchiladas, tacos(did we mention that??), queso, chalupas, guacamole and … Not sure if they have any alcohol but that ice cold tea is worth a try.

I am being overly generous giving this one star. The place is filthy, dark, and dingy. The tables are unclean and smeared with other diners’s dinners and whatever else happens in this plate. All the entrees are frozen and canned. They are made with the cheapest ingredients available and taste terrible. My enchilada was still frozen on the inside and the chili gravy tasted nasty and was only lukewarm. I only ate a few bites and I stopped my grandson from eating any at all. I was seriously worried about enteric bacterial poisoning. This place should not be open. I came in because the parking lot seems full. I guess there is no accounting for taste. Do not go here under any circumstances.

I’ve been here plenty of times over the last many years. My friends from a former job love it. It does have it’s perks and I will gladly accept an invitation to meet them here — but this will never be on my radar of places to go on my own recognizance. Mom and pop quirky stying with knick knacks and odds and ends on mantles and shelves all over the walls. The salsa is routinely runny(but you know it’s fresh). The chicken fried chicken is very good and they do go heavy on the gravy and happily give a cereal bowl full to you if you want more(as I typically do). The portions are generally good and the daily lunch special prices are great. The service is quick and attentive but they don’t waste your time doting — fill tea, chips, etc. and walk away without interrupting. It really is a local dive in true form. The one thing that has always disturbed me greatly is the graffiti in the bathrooms. I don’t know if this is from the local kids pretending to be «urban and intimidating» or it really is gang crap from punks traveling the lesser-taken paths out of town. And now that I’m putting this all together, the graffiti is the sole reason I give it two stars. This place deserves 4 stars for everything else. Recommended for«locals only» as most neighborhood dives are.

This is the kind of place being a local might make it easier to understand why it’s an institution. Regulars like myself tend to congregate, for instance, after church on Sundays to shoot the breeze and chow down, not caring much what the outside of the building looks like but more so the family atmosphere when you walk in the door(not much unlike when Norm walks into Cheers). Obviously«strangers» wouldn’t be able to pick up on this or they would understand why the parking lot is full during lunchtime. So due to this I might be biased, but I can’t remember when I ever had a cost per meal ratio that was out of line at the Hi Way Café. Just had one of my standards, the taco salad with shredded chicken and my friend had a combo plate(cheese enchilada, chalupa, beef taco), two soft drinks and we were quite happy and full for $ 15. Service was fine. Straying from the Mexican side I also enjoy their burgers, onion rings and grilled chicken sandwich. I dislike cloves, but I can’t recall any overwhelming taste of them in the taco meat as another reviewer stated. The two cowboys sitting next to us, obviously on a lunch break from working the ranch, were quite friendly… an example of the clientele… you can talk to anyone. And the owner came out to greet us just as we were leaving. He has run the place for years, he must be doing something right. So for those looking for ambiance, this ain’t your place, but if you enjoy dining where«real» people eat you might want to check this little hole-in-the-wall out…(it’s conveniently nestled right between a gas station, used car dealership and a bar) …and become a regular so you’ll get it.

I’ve driven by this place many times as it sits right at the junction of 29 and 183. The parking lot is usually pretty full, even though the building looks like a real dive. This is typically the kind of place I love finding, especially when they have good food. but unfortunately, this is not the case for the Hi Way Café. Open the door to a face full of cigarette smoke. Not what I expect in a restaurant, but as we stepped off the enclosed patio area and into the actual restaurant, the air was smoke free. Self seating in an older building. Fairly spacious for what it is and well set up. It appeared to be fairly clean until we sat down. Sugar or was it salt? was everywhere. The table was clean, but the bench and the entire floor was covered in a fine white sandy substance. Hot fresh tortilla chips and salsa were brought out immediately, as were our drinks. no straws. The chips were good and the salsa was without a doubt made fresh. Good flavor on both. We ordered off the«what seemed to be reasonably priced» menu and our food arrived less than 10 minutes later. All I can say is what a disappointment. The tacos were ok, maybe a little better than taco bell only because the crispy shell had a great flavor. They barely had any filling in them though. The tamales. oh boy. is that what they were? My best guess is they came from a can. They were definitely not fresh/homemade. Very small and covered in a chili that definitely came from a can and greatly reminded me of Hormel. The heat emitting from those tamales, along with the burnt chili edges on the plate, led me to believe they were most certainly cooked in the microwave. Beans. overly salted. greatly. The rice, exactly opposite. no flavor at all. Maybe it was just that all of the salt from the beans burnt my tastebuds so I couldn’t taste the rice? A 3 taco plate with beans/rice, a 1 taco kids plate with beans/rice, a 3 tamale plate with beans/rice, and 3 drinks ended up being $ 25, at lunchtime. The amount of food was poor. The entrees were small and poorly filled. Service. food came out fast, but that was pretty much it. Not really any check ups or drink refills. I really believe the parking lot is full because of the people that come there just to talk and hang out. There are so many great mexican restaurants around this area, so unless you are just wanting something quick and don’t care much about what it is, I’d highly recommend that you pick one of the others.

It’s very reasonably priced and it’s very quick. My wife & I eat there monthly. They bring chips and salsa to every table whether you’re ordering Mexican Food or not but don’t; the Mexican Food is awful inspite of the fact that it’s owned and run some wonderful, friendly Mexican folks. The Fajitas are okay and the Green Chicken Enchiladas are pretty good but the Tacos bite the wall. The Burgers are great as is the CFS dinner or Sandwich, the Chicken Fried Chicken and Pork Chop is good too. Kid friendly and they’ll accomodate groups as well.

This place actually isn’t in Georgetown — it’s in Liberty Hill on the corner of 29&183 unless there are two with the same name and same phone number. A little birdie told me to come up and try this place and that little birdie has now been set free in hopes it never returns. considering I am a sucker for great dive food, small town business, and looking for that goldmine of great food in remote places– saying«disappointed» is an understatement. I do believe they put clove in the taco meat… it wouldn’t have been a bad decision on the cook’s part if he wouldn’t have let the«cap fall off» or gone overboard. I love spicy food but I don’t love my tongue burning off to a spice like clove. The«cheese sauce» is their version of Queso and is worded just right on the menu. It’s a sauce from a can nothing else added — much like the nacho cheese sauce. As much salsa as we put into it couldn’t hide the flavor of tin can. 2 adult taco plates, a side of cheese whiz enchilada’s(well maybe not cheese whiz but pretty close — with what seemed like Hormel canned chili), 1 kids meal and 3 drinks left us out $ 26 and a learning experience that not all small town folks can cook. They can however open a business and pull in a lot of boxed and canned foods, slapping $ 7 – 8 unpacking fee and call it «food». The wait staff was barely attentive and seemed more involved with internal gossip during our dining experience and even more engaged with one another when we were paying at the cashier stand. I was invisible although my money was not. I really hate giving bad reviews but I left there amazed they are in business.
