There was a food truck my wife and I would always stop by in Minneapolis that never had Cesos available. Not Tortillería Y Taquería Ramírez though. We stopped by there a few days ago to grab some lunch. I got two Cabesa and two Cesos tacos and my wife got a Barbacoa torta. Definitely good eats. We also now know where to go to buy tortilla in Lexington.

A great little hole-in-the-wall taco joint, right in the middle of Lexington’s Hispanic district. It’s about as authentic as they come. If you speak English, don’t worry, they have an English menu and English-speaking staff.. .that’s how authentic it is. It’s good food, it’s pretty inexpensive, and the service is friendly and polite. If you want some real Mexican food, I’d heartily recommend this place.

I’m not huge Mexican fan, but this place takes the cake! Without a doubt the freshest and authentic taco iv’e ever had. Sadly it not the most cleanest place to look at on the outside or inside, but you won’t be disappointed by the food and the staff’s hospitality.

I love this tortilla shop and restaurant. Food is alway fresh and authentic. They make their own tortillas and there is nothing so good as a fresh hand made tortilla. Yum. Several flavors of aguas frescas(fruity soft drinks) and horchata available. I suggest anything with chorizo or asada for the less adventurous. But they have many choices of fillings including various types of pork, chicken, beef, and tongue and brain. ;) if you eat inside they have three salsas on the table. One is habanero and very hot, one is tomatillo and medium hot, and one is mild. Casual and many other Mexican shops and markets nearby. If you’re up for it go to the panaderia after and get a pan dulce(sweet bread pastry). Highly recommended.

I still really like Ramirez, but feel like 3 stars is a more appropriate rating: solid, consistent food; good prices; above average. You’ll have a good meal here, as I often do.

This place looks a little like a machine shop inside, I’ll admit. And the décor is a little rough. But that’s how you know the food is good! I generally always get a burrito and I like to try new fillings each time I go. The food is so cheap and so filling, and the authentic Mexican snacks, desserts, and drinks make it easy to round out your meal and leave you anxiously waiting until the next time you come back to try something new. Would 100% come here over Qdoba or Chipotle any day!

Just… yes. This place. Can I live here? Can they deliver to Louisville? A little Mexican joint at the end of a little strip mall surrounded by Mexican bakeries, groceries and restaurants. You pick out a beverage in the coolers on the side and take a seat. Tacos, tortas, burritos… filled with your choice of meat. You have the usual stuff(had the asada, pastor and carnitas) but you can also get some more adventurous fillings like intestine and brain and tongue.(I tried my friend’s intestine taco, too chewy for my taste). And so so so affordable! I got 5 small tacos(think the size of Taco Bell soft shell… but with more meat) and they are $ 1.50 each. GOHERE. YOUWILLNOTREGRETIT.

As authentic as it gets! I had 2 tacos(pork and chicken) and a gordita. My brother ordered a huge bowl of the soup and thought it was fantastic. They are in the back making the tortillas so you know they are fresh. Be sure and order a horchata!

My boyfriend and I learned about Tortilleria Y Taqueria Ramirez when it was in the Burrito Bracket on Nate Silver’s website and I definitely see why it made it so far in he competition! The appearance is a little run down, and they don’t have any plastic silverware for to go orders, but the people are nice.(And they arguably deserve points for NOT having plastic silverware as that is actually a big favor they are doing the planet by cutting down on plastic waste. Sorry for the side bar, but I thought it should be pointed out.) The burritos really are excellent though. And cheap. We have driven out of our way to go get them at least 3 times when passing near Lexington. We always get the carne asada burrito as that was what ran away in the burrito bracket, but the last time we were there we also tried a sope with carnitas. It turned out I liked the carnitas even better than the carne asada so I may be changing up my burrito order the next time we find ourselves here.

I saw that this place had been voted one of the best burritos in America. I don’t order burritos a lot, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but the steak burrito here was really probably the best one I’d ever had. Also tried the refried beans and rice as side dishes and both were excellent. This place doesn’t have the kind of atmosphere you usually get at a Mexican restaurant, but it is more authentic Mexican food. Also, if are wanting chips and queso and margaritas, those aren’t served here… But the prices are great. I would return.

Authentic and legit Mexican food. Don’t go in expecting your normal Mexican Restaurant experience. Homemade tortillas made right there, yes, you can buy them buy the dozen. The staff speaks English well so ask questions because I did as someone who went there not knowing anything. I got something simple– just a large steak taco and a pineapple drink that they sell there in a machine by the counter. It was less than $ 5.00 and filled me up. Not lettuce or nonsense on the taco, just cilantro and onion, served with lime. Salsas on the side. Perfect. The pineapple drink was a bit sweet for me. Next time I’ll bring a drink because I don’t drink pop– which seems to be the other option. You can eat there, maybe 6 booths, or take it to go. I’ll go back. Again and again.

Check this place out. I have been there twice now and can confirm that these guys know their burritos and tacos! I will endeavor to sample more of the menu. Great combination of quality ingredients and friendly service. Nice portions too. We all got chicken and were very happy with the flavor and fresh ingredients. Worthy of 4.5 stars

This place is tasty. We had a carnitas burrito and a pastor torta. Both were flavorful and inexpensive. Service was quick and friendly. We will be back.

Currently on the search for the best burrito in Lexington, and this little place came up. Homemade tortilla filled with Mexican rice, refried beans, juicy chunks of steak and shredded cheese. Delicious food, although a little bit weathered in appearance. Have to say that Ellos on Broadway still holds the #1 spot for best burrito in Lexington, though the Tortilleria was a close second.

There are Mexican restaurants, then there are authentic Mexican restaurants. This place does it right. Cilantro and onion on their tacos, Jarritos in the fridge, and kickass burritos. Seriously, my favorite burrito. They load meat, beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, and lettuce(but I substitute cilantro) into one heavenly tortilla. So fast and cheap. Going here after a long day at the track is magical.

The best Mexican food I’ve ever tried! The outside appearance doesn’t seem very inviting as it is located in «little Mexico» and it’s somewhat of a run down town. But this place has some of the best Mexican food you’ll ever get the chance to experience. I came here from a friends’ recommendation and sure glad I listened because this place has not disappointed me yet and I’ve been here 3 different times. The first time I’ve came here I ordered a pork taco, steak taco, a steak torta, and horchata drink. All of the food came out fresh and hot and simply put– delicious! Very authentic Mexican food here, nothing like the chains. I’d come here anytime over chipotle/Qdoba or any of those places for a burrito from here, you won’t be disappointed and you may end up coming here more often. The staff may not speak that well of English but that’s when you know it’s one of the best spots in town. If they can’t understand you except what you want with your food, then you’ve come to the right place !

A nice little place to stop in for some great fresh food. I got a carne asada burrito for $ 5. It was big and filled with all kinds of delicious things which was certainly worth that price. There wasn’t much spice to it, so be sure to use some hot sauce to really bring out the flavor. I wouldn’t say there was anything super spectacular about it, but for the price and the size I don’t think you could possibly beat it anywhere. There was also a nice selection of cold drinks in the fridge, but if you are looking for a beer they don’t have any here. If I was on this side of town, I’d probably head here for lunch or dinner without hesitation.

What this restaurant lacks in atmosphere it makes up for with authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price. My wife and I split a Carne Asada Burrito, and we each had a large Chorizo Taco. We loved both but should have ordered another small item like a taco, tamale, etc to make our meal a dinner sized portion. The Burrito had a nice balance of ingredients: steak, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, avocado, mild jalapeños, onion, sour cream, cheese, and not too much rice(unlike the chains). I tried a Mango fountain drink and liked it ok but my wife’s Watermelon drink was absolutely delicious! Tip: what appear to be bottles of ketchup and mustard are actually containers of red and green sauce. Be adventurous and give this friendly establishment a try!

Tried the chicken burrito, and for $ 6.25, I couldn’t be much happier. Watched the guy scoop avocado out of the shell into my burrito. :) He works at a furious pace and is a master burrito maker for certain. They serve three salsas — the green was by far the mildest and was great with the chicken. The middle red sauce was flavorful and HOT, so I did not yet try the one the lady drew an ‘X’ on. Atmosphere is no frills and Ramirez is located in Lexington’s low-rent Mexican district. You could work up a sweat pretty fast eating hot sauce in here on a summer’s day. They sell fresh, homemade corn tortillas at the counter.

Round 2, a torta and can of soda: less than $ 8. It’s more than good food at a fair price, though. I feel welcome when I eat here. The señora smiles, you order at the counter, find a seat, and your meal is brought to you. When you finish, return to the counter and they’ll add up your tab. Add Tortilleria Y Taqueria Ramirez to your to-do list. If you enjoy a family-owned, neighborhood joint.

Full disclosure: FiveThirtyEight might be my favorite blog on the interwebs, so I approached this restaurant with some bias. I met a friend here for dinner on a Wednesday evening, and we were immediately seated. I think we were immediately seated because we looked confused. You can just go in and sit down at a table. I’ll know next time. As with any decent Mexican hole-in-the-wall, the simple one-sided menus were printed entirely in Spanish. Thanks to prior Unilocal research, I knew to try the al pastor burrito. It was money. However I must say that the tortilla didn’t quite live up to the hype. With that said, I also ordered a barbacoa taco. As it turns out, the corn tortillas(used for tacos) are hand-made fresh each day, but I don’t think the flour tortillas(used for the burritos) are hand-made. This is kinda confusing because I thought FiveThirtyEight really emphasized the fresh tortillas in its review of the burrito. Bottom line – this place is excellent, but I think the tacos stand above the burritos, contrary to the popular opinion on FiveThirtyEight.

This is my new favorite place for authentic Mexican food! It is not fancy, but the woman who took my order made me feel very welcome. As a tortillaria, Tortillaria y Taqueria Ramirez makes both corn and flour tortillas in house. Patricia told me that they roast and grind their own corn! As a taqueria, they offer tacos, sopes, tortas, burritos, quesadillas, gorditas and caldo de res. I ordered a Burrito de Pastor(marinated pork), and selected a Toronja(grapefruit) Jarritos soda. If I had been more alert, I would have probably ordered one of the four Aguas Frescas on offer. The burrito was really big, and came on a homemade flour tortilla. It was perfect in every way. Flavorful pork, delicious beans, and just the right amount of other stuff. The burrito was accompanied by three freshly made, flavorful salsas. Yes, I’m in love!
