Ohhh how I love Fancy Pastry! It’s hard not to love a place you were raised with! It’s almost all I know as far as bakeries are concerned! Every year except 1 since i’ve been born(which is a couple years give or take a few ;-]), i’ve received my birthday cake from Fancy. As well as my heart shaped Valentine cakes and egg shaped Easter cakes! My mom even TRIED to mail me my cake my freshman year of college(epic fail but she made up for it when I came home of course). It’s that much of a tradition in my family. In fact I cried my junior year of college when my mom thought she could stop these traditions(It was Easter & I still wanted my basket…). What do you mean? I don’t care i’m damn near grown, I want my cake! So she had cupcakes & an Easter basket for me when I came home to visit :-). And i’m not shamed one bit! lol! I can even remember a few years when I was young, my mom was late as always picking up my cake, and the owner would wait for her after closing and bring it out to her through the back door. This was when they were located on 2nd Ave(I think that was it). I didn’t know other bakeries even existed until a few years ago, and none of them even compare. I can’t even find icing anywhere that tastes even close to what Fancy Pastry does! It must be like some huge family secret lol! I’ve never tasted a bad dessert from Fancy. Every single time my cupcakes are light and fluffy and not a single dessert i’ve tasted has been over cooked or unattractive to the eyes. My only complaint is that lately over the past year or so the cases have seemed kind of empty, even mid day! Not a lot to choose from. I’m normally ok as long as they have cupcakes but other family members have been disappointed. That’s the only reason for the 4 stars in lieu of 5. Otherwise, nothing compares to my favorite bakery!

Drive almost ½ hour to get to Fancy Pastry and well worth the drive. Get there early as they are very busy & sell out of items fast especially on Saturdays.

Addicted, I have been going here since I was small kid, over 40 years. It is delicious. I have taken many friends there and now they are addicted. One of the best places to visit in Lexington.

This could easily have made it into the 2 – 3 star category if I’d written about it on the day I went there 3 wks ago. It’s the service … the smiles are forced(what smiles one sees, anyway). They did have a good selection of tarts, cookies and pies but they were running out fast. I WASNOT fond of the whip-cream type filling in the donuts not the custard. The pies and cookies we got were very good tho. I got the impression when folks go to the Fancy Pastry Shop they go in deep … like for some serious e a t i n g ! btw: it is not Fancy, it’s about as basic as they come! After my next visit I will be able to have a better perspective on attitude and quality.

I stopped in twice this week while visiting family only to find the pastry cases practically bare. No doughnuts, no doughnut holes, and a very limited selection of a few eclairs and a fritter. Never a good sign when stopping by during the mid-morning or at lunch to find empty cases. Their made-to-order cakes seem to be their best seller because that’s what all the employees seem to be working on. I would avoid this place unless you are placing a cake order. Too disappointing.

Stopped in & picked up a few treats at Fancy Pastry shop after visiting some relatives in Lexington. The items we tried were very good & very fresh. They have a great selection of cakes, pastries, cookies, cupcakes & a whole bunch of other items to choose from. They have a few tables & chairs also if you wanna pop a squat to get your sugar rush on. The whole storefront is a big window, you can see the folks in action decorating the freshly made cakes & cupcakes right from the sidewalk. We were in on a saturday afternoon & the place was boomin’ with customers. The mini chocolate cupcake was good, a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, no big whoop there, but tasty. The homemade oatmeal cream cookie was very good also, the cream filling is crazy sweet, a little too sweet for my taste, I squashed the cookie a little to push some of the filling out the sides to remove a little of it to tone down the sweetness. My favorite of the items we picked up was the lemon tart, it was a great little treat, it packs a good lemony burst of flavor not overpowered by sweetness. They had a ton of awesome looking items in the display cases, I’ll definitely stop in to try some more of the goods the next time I’m in town.

Great cakes and cup cakes. I also enjoy the variety of pastries they have to offer. I prefer the Bavarian cream filled pastries. Especially the chocolate cream filled eclairs & doughnut holes.

Mehhh… I don’t see anything special about this place. I prefer a bakery or sweet shop that uses fresh ingredients in fruit based pastries and not some canned garbage. Would it kill them to have items for purchase that are a little closer to actual food? Probably not, but I dare say it wouldn’t sell all that well. Lexington is not exactly the picture of health. Let me be clear on why guys like Fancy Pastry, teenage eye candy. This is coming from several guy friends in the local area who agree that the pastries are Wal-mart quality, but the girls are HAWT. The front of the store is a glass cross-section of the bakery, so you can«see your cake or doughnut from flour to finished product». No, it’s actually so that guys can eyeball teenage girls in low cut tops and shorts, who happen to be making doughnuts and cakes. I brought my DH here on a visit to see my family and he wasn’t impressed by the food or the girls. I wasn’t either, and I’m perfectly comfortable stating when a woman or man is attractive. That woman who plays Khaleesi on Game of Thrones, she’s HAWT. Plenty of local girls I see here in Hawaii, HAWT. I’ll add that I don’t like Krispy Kreme either, as I prefer cake doughnuts, and I will await the angry mob ready to tar and feather me the next time I’m in the area. That said, a Krispy Kreme would demolish Fancy Pastry if it ever opened in Lexington. Let me state the types of sweet shops I like… Wagshalls(they have a small bakery), Fresh Market, Georgetown Cupcake(though I think the prices are insane), Whole Foods, Roots, Down to Earth, the Persian bakery in Rockville, and a plethora of little Chinese bakeries in Hawaii. I guess this means I greatly prefer ethnic(European is ethnic, too) bakeries where I can see grandma in the back actually chopping ingredients and handmaking the food with dedication and love. I don’t think there’s a little grandma making fruit tarts at Whole Foods, but I can still recognize the treats are good. Are any of these places in Lexington? Nope. What do I recommend? That you either roll up your sleeves and embrace baking(it’s easier than you may think), or that you hop in the car and drive to Winston-Salem for a Fresh Market trip.

There is one thing really misleading about this place, and that is the name. You will probably never mistake anything about the joint for«fancy». So what is going on? No idea. Maybe that is their family name. Or perhaps they signed onto the common custom in certain parts of the world where things are given exciting names to attract attention. Whatever the case, it does not mean that Fancy Pastry is not worth a stop if you are in the area. Just don’t expect fancy and all will be fine. They are also certainly not your standard donut(or doughnut) shop either. For those who have been around a while like myself, this is more like the Krispy Kreme store used to be, with a linoleum floor and big cases. I half expected to see a line of old men sitting at a counter with their coffees. But here you get rack after rack of homemade pastries, and those that I have tried were fairly tasty. Make sure you stop in when you visit Lexington.

They are a great bakery. Really the only option for a bakery in Lexington and they have a good selection of typical items like cakes, eclairs, doughnuts pies. I love there eclairs with cream and the doughnut holes. Only place in Lexington to buy bakery sweets.

As a Lexington native who grew up with Fancy Pastry, I feel compelled to write about this lovely place! Ah, their cupcakes. I love them! That sweet frosting. The soft bread! When you walk into FP, you cannot help but be greeted by that welcoming sweet smell! FP has been an integral part of my life — from decorating my 21st birthday cake to initiating childhood fights with my brother over the last cupcake… FP has been there though it all! I love this place and all the confections! Give them a try! I think you will be glad you did! :o)

I don’t usually like sweets. However, Fancy Pastry has items I could not live without. The cake squares are soft, fresh delightful mouthfuls of joy. The icing melts on your tongue. When your brain registers the bliss for the first time, you will be addicted. Everything else is great, including the breads. I want that cake square now.

My mother swears by this place. She took me here for doughnuts when I wanted Krispy Kremes, telling me that this place has better doughnuts. They have a wide variety and more recently, I had some of their munchkin style doughnuts. Dunkin & Krispy Kreme have nothing on these guys; my mom wasn’t kidding.

A visit to Lexington would not be complete unless I stop by the Fancy Pastry Shop. Try an oatmeal cream pie. They are delicious! Two soft oatmeal cookies with white cream in the middle. Yum Yum! Their cream cheese cannolis are also great. Never had a cake from there, but their individual desserts are«the bomb».
