Aaah Jime! You satisfied my craving for fufu and goat afang so well. This is an African restaurant which serves food from all over west Africa. This is technically Nigerian, but the food has been influenced by traders from all over the continent and the middle east and spice traders from the east. The food is a very interesting amalgamation of flavors, one that will make you crave more. Fufu will remind some of you of the heartiness of the boiled and smashed yucca one can get in central american restaurants or at a few places in the caribbean. The gizzards and meat pie appetizers are great. I am a gizzard fan, and these were cooked perfectly with the right hint of funkiness to make them known to one palate as gizzards. The suya(a kind of kebab) is perfectly cooked with hits of crunchy peanuts and a spice mix(reminiscent of a berbere) that makes for great eating. The coconut rice and oxtail stew was a fabulous combination of coconut flavored rice adding almost tropical notes to the rich oxtail stew. On my next trip I am going to grab 5 – 6 people and order one of everything!

Fantastic meal. I had the dodo gizzards which were great and the pepper soup which was also fantastic. If you’ve never had pepper soup before, be prepared for a punch in the face with pepper. If you have had it before or are interested in trying, this one is very good.

Jime’s took over a Mexican restaurant. It’s a one-man op so don’t expect too much. It’s my first time eating African food. It was interesting in a good way. The big ball of yam dough was delicious but its sat in my stomach like a rock. The meat and veggies that came with it was awesome. I’d eat that again. Lots of things to try. They even have comfort food like fried chicken. Will RTE.

My sister and I wanted to try something new and this is new. I ordered the Jamaican catfish; rice and coleslaw. Delicious. My sister ordered a spicy goat meat with rice. It was VERY spicy. I can’t comment on her taste but I can say unless you like spicy don’t order spicy. I am looking forward to trying other dishes and I do recommend this place. The décor is nice; it was quiet(music from jam box on floor) and the owners were quite nice. There is a wait for the food to be cooked but not a long one. We had munchies… small squares of a light sweet taste while we waited. Give this place a try. JFT

What a great spot! I went there with a group of friends and we all enjoyed our food. I love the line on the menu that says«none of our food is pre-prepared»! Basically, don’t go there if you need to get in and out. If you want to try a sampling of African food or if you want some good Southern soul food, they have that too! The fried plantains for appetizer were tasty and hot/fresh. I forgot the name of the dish I had, but it was great too. Jime is the chef and James was our server. They took time to tell us their story about how they came to Lewisville. Definitely recommend this spot, but not for someone who wants ordinary and fast-tempo style dining expereince.

Well, I’m kind of split on my experience here. When we walked in, we just stood there for several minutes waiting for someone to appear and sit us. I wasn’t sure if we were to seat ourselves or not. The atmosphere is interesting. For the most part, it’s nice. But there were things that I think they could improve. The front of the restaurant needs an overhaul, but the dining room was nice. The music comes from a small stereo sitting on the floor, and for some reason there is a Cowboys digital clock on the wall that sticks out like a sore thumb amongst all of the classy décor. There are nice chandelier style lights, but for some reason they left the fluorescent lights on creating a very business office feel. If it were up to me, I’d bring the lights down to create a more chill vibe. We started off by ordering the meat pie, however we didn’t receive it until after we got our food.(Disappointing since we ordered it like 5 minutes before our food). Not being Nigerian, we didn’t know what a lot of the items were, and there are no descriptions in the menu. We asked our server(which I assume is the owner) what certain items were, and he seemed a bit short with us. Maybe that’s just their culture, I don’t know. My wife ordered the Jellof rice with beef, which just tasted like Mexican rice with beef tips. Not great. I had the Shrimp Étouffée which was great!!! It had a great flavor and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Before we got there, we bought the special deal that was on Unilocal($ 15 for $ 30). When it came time to pay, the server didn’t seem to know exactly what to do with the coupon code we had and he had to go ask. So all in all, it was just ok. Definitely has potential to be really great, but for now it’s just ok.

Driving past this new place last week, I was excited to see another fairly exotic addition to our humble Lewisville restaurant panoply. I immediately made plans to dine there, and was happy to see Jime was our waiter as well as our chef, as other diners have noted. Jime is very friendly and happy to explain the more exotic items on the menu to you. He also has a picture menu that will help those who only come up with question marks when they see fufu, ogbono, afang, moi moi, etc. Our gang started with 2 meat pies(generously sized for only $ 1.99) that were deliciously spiced with pepper, chili, and warm spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. We also ordered the Jamaican gizzards, toothsome chicken gizzards in a spicy sauce with pineapple. Utterly divine, if you like gizzards. For the main course, we had Jimi’s Ultimate Rice, basically a spicy fried rice with shrimp and goat meat, and both meats were cooked perfectly… the goat was tender and juicy, and the fat shrimp were NOT overcooked… something I consider very impressive in a restaurant.(Most restaurants dramatically overcook their shrimp, leaving them tough and rubbery.) We also had the baked tilapia with plantains and rice, and the tilapia was also cooked perfectly.(Jime knows exactly what he’s doing with seafood.) We also tried something from the southern Soul Food menu… the chicken wings. They were massive. And delicious. Very pleased to see this palate-expanding menu here in small-town Lewisville. Come support Jime! The restaurant biz is challenging for everyone, and this is truly a local establishment. The name on the sign is the guy waiting tables AND cooking the food. Though, once his restaurant becomes more popular, he’s probably gonna have to hire some help for busy Friday nights!

We had a great time here. You know it is going to be good when Jime himself is your waiter. He recommended things for us to try and everything was amazing. We will be back.

We purchased a groupon for Jime’s Kitchen and read it was a new restaurant that opened earlier this month and thought we would give it a try. I wish they showed a picture of the inside of the restaurant on their website as well because it was quite charming really with brick walls, white linen tablecloths and linen napkins. It felt cozy. We started with a meat pie as an appetizer and there was definitely an ethnic flavor in the beef that I am not familiar with but it was flavorful and the crust was tasty and light. My husband tried the Jamaican grilled catfish with rice and coleslaw. I opted for the Fried Shrimp, with fries and coleslaw. The fish and shrimp were so fresh, the sides piping hot and the coleslaw was divine. I believe it is the best coleslaw I have ever had in a restaurant. The catfish was seasoned perfectly for my husband and the breading on the shrimp was light and perfect. The portions were ample. The waitress was attentive and friendly. It was a great experience. I hope everyone will give the place a try and see for themselves. We will definitely be back again.
