Great shop. Great inventory. Great prices… but the reason for the review is the shop owner Mike. Mike took the time to not only test the hard to find NES games I was buying, but also advised a old turbo controller and let me play a few more games he recommended. Customer service is a dying art, I’m always happy to recognize it when I receive it… it is alive and well here at the Video Game Trading Post!

I had been going to Mike’s store for years ever since he was operating in a tiny garage in Hicksville near the Broadway mall. I always thought him and his staff were very nice to me and they always had a great selection of inventory to look through every time I would visit the store. Over the years as he changed locations, I would continue to visit his store. There were times where I would constantly come in with boxes of stuff for trade credit and Mike had the patience of a saint to go through it with me one by one, even before he was open for business on occasion. I WILLGOONRECORD to say that over my life and many years of collecting this is one of the best retro game stores I had ever been to. I had called in the other day and inquired about a game I had been looking for forever. They had it in stock, but the price was steep.(They have retail prices naturally, Mike has rent/employees/overhead to pay). Now, for me PERSONALLY my budget for games isn’t that much so I gathered up a bunch of extra games I had to bring in for trade to soften the blow if you catch my drift. When I went in with my games, the store was fairly empty at the time so I was relieved that I did not have to wait that long to get an estimate on the trade value. When Mike went through the games this time, he gave me an estimate that I personally believed was low at first but I did realize that of course he needs to make money on the deal obviously. I did have a few questions though about some specific games. When I asked him how much he had offered on a single game I had, he had given me a «take it or leave it» type of response which threw me back a bit. Keep in mind that the store was fairly empty at the time, and I did see an issue with at least giving me an idea about what credit I was offered for each item. I can understand if I had brought in fifty items, but I only had six at the time. I myself am a manager in two departments in my company so I can understand the stress of a packed day with many clients/customers to tend to. Maybe he was having a bad day since it was fairly late at night when I walked in. Anyway, I just gave him the stuff, paid the balance on the game and walked out feeling kind of feeling a bit weird about the situation. I gave it a few days to think about, and I still feel kind of off about the situation. Don’t let this situation detract you from at least giving this game store a shot. The inventory and staff are above and beyond in the many times I had been there. If you have an interest in retro games, this is a great place to visit for sure. For me, there are other ways to buy my games, so I likely will not be returning unfortunately.

After reading all of the reviews about how good the customer service is and how nice the staff is I honestly thought it had to be exaggerated. So I went to check it out and was absolutely blown away. Everyone of the guys working there couldn’t be nicer. Not only did they answer all of my questions in depth but you can tell they actually enjoy helping you. On top of everything I went in there for a gift for someone and they gave me a free 10 $ gift card to give to them from everyone at the trading post. Just a great first experience and anytime I every need anything video game related I’ll definetly be going there. HIGHLY recommended! Bad– Absolutely nothing

It’s a pretty good place overall with some great positives for video game fans and collectors. The first thing you’ll notice is the vast selection of old school games — Nintendo, Atari, Sega, handhelds, etc, it’s all there. While most of the their inventory is retro games, fans of the present generation systems will still be able to find some decent, but very few games. Considering I grew up with mostly Nintendo systems, it was great to see not only old classics, but also ones kept in mostly excellent condition. If I was more of a collector I’d probably invest more into it, but more on that in a bit. Secondly, the store space isn’t too big(could be bigger), but not too small either; a decent size displays all their items well, which goes to everything from games, to special edition box sets, to controllers, and even memorabilia knick-knacks. It’s a welcoming atmosphere overall where you’re not harassed annoyingly by the employees. Another positive is the great and easy location, which is way easier to find than their former hidden«dungeon”-like space… which was WAY more cramped. Everything is laid out well and prices are all prominently featured on each piece of merchandise. Lastly, employees are nice enough, not overly friendly but not bothersome. Pretty chill. They’re glad to help and answer questions quickly, so I have no issue there. The biggest negative I found were their prices. While I appreciate the fact that there are a good amount of very rare collectible games in stock, all displayed separately from the more common titles, even the prices of the common titles are far too high for a more price-wary customer to immediately jump into. It’s understandable why a rare game would be priced alongside what internet charges are, BUT at the same time they aren’t very competitive with internet prices. Yes, I understand stores need to sell games at their«worth,» but why not go a little lower, in that case giving people more incentive to actually buy the games as opposed to the internet, where there is no sales tax charged? I’ve seen this done elsewhere, but even their normal titles(and just about everything else) are just too high. An example being ‘Dark Sector’ for the PS3. A first-generation game I’ve seen at Gamestop for about $ 3, whereas their price was a surprising $ 6. IMO very old titles which are neither rare nor popular should honestly never sell for more than $ 5. Even the Five Below stores know better than that. Another being a Street Fighter Ryu collectible statue that came out of the box set anniversary edition, and them asking a whopping $ 40, whereas the entire set sells online for about $ 80. Some cute game character custom magnets sold for $ 10, which seemed no more worth about $ 6 or $ 7 at most(personally I wouldn’t even pay $ 7). To put it in short, I would see why less discriminate buyers would pay such prices, but those looking to get any sort of a deal should look elsewhere, even the internet. I also hear that when selling games to them, you’re not exactly going to make out with anything great. It’s a nice place to visit and browse if you’re very much into video games, even to see their selection, but for myself, I can’t agree with how much they’re asking for.

Great store! Huge selection of retro video games and all the systems and hardware. I doubt they won’t have what your looking for. Very fair prices. The guys are friendly, knowledgeable and work with you with the prices. Their new location is great. My one and only complaint is that they don’t take credit card but that’s a small price to pay. If your into retro gaming, this store is a must for you.

I consider this my weekly vacation resort… it’s like going through a portal to my childhood. So many cool games to choose from. Mike is very knowledgable and will go out of his way to find you games/consoles you might be looking for. I was able to pick up some systems I could never afford as a kid. It’s cool to have a spot like this locally and I’d recommend everyone that ever played a cartridge based system head in to see their selection of games!!!

I love this place. Good: — wide selection for pretty much any console you would go there for(games and hardware) — very fair prices — extremely knowledgable — great inventory(they always have the classics in stock) — incredibly nice people with real chemistry Bad: — they give some dubious prices when selling to them(but when trading in, they give great deals) — because of small space and high demand, sometimes it gets chaotic in there — although it is very uncommon, I have received games/piece of hardware from them that hasn’t been test through enough

Awesome video game store! I’ve gone to both the old and new locations frequently. Fair prices on both buying and selling things, the staff is awesome and every week you can expect to see new stuff that wasn’t there last week. Definitely worth checking out!

The store was pretty good. Got diddy kong racing and bomberman hero for n64 there today. The prices were high retail(not a problem). The only problem I had is charging $ 35 for amiibos. I understand those amiibos are rare, but the retail price is $ 12.
