I love my vineyards but this is a winery. We had a great rainey afternoon, we will be visiting again.

Port of Leonardtown Winery was a hidden gem that we found while heading to a pumpkin patch. It operates as a co-op for several southern Maryland vineyards. In the past, I have not found Maryland wines to be outstanding(fruity wines are good but the others are too vinegary or watery). This winery has done a great job at assembling tasty wines. The reds were all good, especially the Captains Table and Petit Verdot. Wine tastings are $ 5 without a souvenir glass or $ 7 with one. The shop wasn’t too busy. There is a nice outside patio that we used for a picnic with friends. Stop by and give it a try if you have a chance!

Outstanding! I was totally blown away by the quality of the wines produced. The wine maker is an artist when it comes to blending local grapes into great wine. Enjoyed tasting the multiple varieties of wine.

Nice little local Winery or distribution point. Comfortable patio and located next to a creek with lovely walking paths. Pretty good wines, this is our second visit and even I like a few of the white wines. You can bring your own snacks or buy some here and sit and enjoy sipping some good wines. Only downside is busy highway 5 and all the noise associated with it!

I went in for a weekend wine tasting. Live music all Saturday afternoon, and $ 7 to try 6 wines and keep the glass. I didn’t own any wine glasses, and now I do. I also got dragged into taking home a bottle of my girlfriend’s top pick. I’m completely new to the world of wine, but it seemed amazing that they had a listing of 12 or so wines to their name. Along with my six selections, I also had a brief synopses given to me by a friendly hostess. The flavor of each one is much more complex and full than the cheap bottles and boxes I’ve tried before. It’s shocking and eye-opening.

During the Maryland Passport we got a tour of the barrel room and learned about their wine making process… Samples were also good!

I bought a Groupon to this place and if I would have known I would have bought more than one. I wish I would of known about this place sooner. It is a diamond in the rough. It isn’t fancy, but it is very cozy and the staff is awesome. Not to mention the delicious wine. They also had a apple wine that you can heat with mulling spices and have warm wine like warm cider-tasty. Please check this place out.

There may not be a vineyard for you to feast your eyes upon but there is plenty of wines to wet your palette. This unique winery is actually a co-op of about 18 local Maryland farms that came together to hire a winemaker and the wine you try here is the result of the fruits of their labor. Locals supporting locals, the true meaning of local pride, and they should be proud because the wines created from their bounty are absolutely lovely and all around delicious!!! My favorites were the Reserve Chambourcin and Reserve Petit Verdot. I can’t believe how full-bodied and flavorful these were, the color on both was exquisite, the nose on both had me closing my eyes and drinking it in through its aromas alone. WoW! Seriously, the winemaker is talented, especially with a grape as a tough as Chambourcin which I have found is usually quite muddy and harsh… but Port of Leaonardtown’s Chambourcin is magic! The building isn’t much to look at from outside but it’s warm and homey, exactly what you expect from a wine tasting room. There is even a window with a view to see into the area where all the magic happens with the grapes. I believe Kelly was my pourer and she was bubbly, energetic, and just full of knowledge. I truly enjoyed the experience. Only Recommendation: Have photos on the walls of each of the farms within the co-op for customers/visitors to reference and to learn more about each. It makes it all seem more real or at least it would to me. A must try/visit when exploring the Southern Maryland Wine Trail!

Finally used my Groupon with my husband after rescheduling three times. He’s not a wine drinker and admitted he had a great time tasting six wines and then enjoying a glass with cheese and crackers on the patio. Although it was the Saturday after Christmas the weather was great for sitting outside and the staff are very knowledgeable about not just wine but adult beverages in general. We plan to return with our neighbors who are wine critics. We did go home with a bottle of McIntosh Run. Very responsibly price and they have monthy events; check them out.

Beautiful fall weekend so we decided to head over and try it out. We were not disappointed. Tasting fee $ 5 for 6 wines and keep the glass. Well organized reds and whites, 2 roses. Liked the wines, liked the people, liked the patio. Will definitely go back to sip and listen to love music!

We wandered over here when we went camping at nearby Point Lookout State Park. It was a delightful experience. The customer service was great. It should be said that the perfect wine tasting experience should start with the wine being poured and then the staff discussing the wine while we sample it. This is exactly how they do it at Port of Leonardtown. The tasting room is nice, not over done and not shoddy. The nearby park and stream make it a nice little stop. The tasting includes a pretty nice wine glass and there is a nice variety of wines to choose your sampling menu. All in all, a pretty nice little winery.

Great afternoon! Went here with another couple as part of a Groupon. We each got the tasting, glasses and a bottle of wine. I tend to like VA wines more as they seem to have a bolder flavor but these were great. The service was wonderful and we opened our wine and ate some snacks on the patio. I liked severeal of reds and whites. Definitely will return.

We have been here twice and both times had very good service. They always seem to be appropriately staffed. The first time we went there were 50 people in and we still got a great tasting and service with a smile, and wine knowledge. The second time it was just our family and one other group, and we got great service again. The wines are good, and they have a variety to please most tasters. We ended up buying a few bottles of the 1634 Chardonnay. There isn’t much to say about the atmosphere, which is pleasant, but not fabulous. A fun place to take a visitor, and easy to find.

I bought this groupon deal for my family for the Port of Leonrdtown winery. Initially, when we arrived, I was little skeptical due to the lack of «winery» scenery that I was expecting. However, my expectations were more than met when we went inside. We got a wonderful wine tasting experirnce with Abby; she was very knowledgeable and more than helpful, making our wine tasting exceptional. I’ve been to wineries and wine tastings before, and this is by far on of my favorites. All in all, a warming and charming time.

Purchased a Groupon for the winery. Was an hour an half drive from Alexandria, VA… but worth it. I really liked about half of the selection and the other half was either ok it was not for me. I enjoyed the white wines more than the red. WILLBEGOINGBACKTOBUYMORE! Only down side is that they are new and can’t ship outside of Maryland yet… no biggie though.

A friend had a Groupon and I was the lucky chosen one to go on this little adventure from NoVa. I’ve never been to a winery and know as much about wine as I do about Maryland… the bare minimum. After about an hour and a half of driving, we finally made it. It was really busy because, like many others that bought a Groupon, we decided to wait until the last weekend to use it. Once we got the tasting going, it was an awesome experience. We tried every single wine on the list that had a pretty good variety of Whites, Reds and Rosé. The guy serving us was super friendly and incredibly informative. Though it was slightly information overload so I don’t really remember much… but I think the wine is a little bit to blame for that too. Overall, most of the wines tasted great and the service was excellent. It was a great experience that I would recommend to everyone, even those who aren’t frequent wine drinkers like me. Don’t have too many expectations though, there’s not much of a scenery.

We drove from the DC area to the winery, as we had a Groupon. This was our first venture to the Southern tri-country area of Maryland. The drive seemed a little long, but it’s the same as going to the Loudon area from where we live. There were a lot of farms and even an Amish settlement along the way. Seeing it was fall, there were a lot of little roadside stands set up, selling pumpkins and the like. We arrived at the winery, and there were two staff members who were busy with customers. At first, it took a second to get settled in and start on our tasting, but this is understandable, seeing they were wrapping up other clients. As another Unilocal reviewer mentioned, the winery is a co-op, so the farmers can be the ones serving you your tasting. This happened for us, and it made it more interesting to have the grape grower doing your tasting with you. I’m not too much of a wine snob, so take my reviews of the wines with a grain of a salt. I like reds; I like sweet; and I like Chambourcin and Cabs, to be specific. All of the wines went down well — very smooth. The Whites: I even enjoyed the whites(particularly, the 1634 Chardonnay, the McIntosh Run, and the Breton Bay Breeze). The McIntosh Run goes down dangerously smooth. We bought a bottle of it, seeing it seemed ‘seasonal,’ and wouldn’t you know, it’s 25 percent off! We bought a whole bottle of local wine for $ 10.50 — that’s basically unheard of in Northern Virginia! The Autumn Frost was a good dessert wine. The reds were also good. We ended up buying the Chambourcin(their biggest seller) and the Captain’s Table(a smoky red that was pretty interesting). Both bottles at full price were still priced lower than Northern Virginia wines. The wines vary from about $ 14 on up to $ 26 for their premium wines. The staff was friendly. The indoor tasting area was nice. The outside patio wasn’t quite like siting in the mountains in Northern Virginia, but nonetheless, it was nice to sit outside with a glass of a wine on their patio. The patio was kept up well with pretty flowers. I did subtract one star for location, and wish i could only subtract a half, as it isn’t something they can really control. There is a park adjacent to the winery, so you can take a walk along the creek there. It was an enjoyable 5 to 10 minute walk. Also, they do kayaking/wine trips, if you’re interested. It was nice to explore a new place, and visit a winery. I can’t comment on their tasting fees, seeing we had a Groupon. The Groupon included 11 tastings for two people, the glasses(no one lets you keep these anymore!), and a bottle of wine. I think she had mentioned to another client that they had 6 tastings for $ 5, but don’t quote me. Again, if you’re in the area, don’t miss it. Or, even if you want to take a day trip out of the city, I highly recommend it. There’s a state park on the tip of the peninsula with Civil War History, some family ‘fall harvest’ farms, beaches, seafood, etc.

Southern Maryland is a beautiful part of the state and if you find yourself there I’d recommend a stop at Port of Leonardtown Winery. The Winery is a co-op, so on any given day you’ll be served by someone who makes the wine or grows the grapes. Quite communal. Rebecca was very helpful and helped us select a case. I mixed some of the Vidal Blanc(their BESTWINE, by far) with their Captain’s Table red. Both were wonderful. They also feature some off-dry wines for those who prefer more residual sugar.

Soooo… yeah…about that wine snobbery… I’m not so good at it. I like wine. I like it cheap and I like it expensive. I like to drink so much wine that I can no longer taste it and therefore no longer tell the difference. So perhaps my review doesn’t mean anything to anybody, but I’m writing it anyway. I liked Port of Leonardtown Winery. I liked it because, by a stroke of luck, a fresh batch, gaggle, group, parliament, whatever you call a large number of grapes, came in as we were there and we got to see some processes that we otherwise wouldn’t know about. I liked the way the wine tasted… as I do most wines… I liked that it was a beautiful day and I liked that I was getting tipsy in the sun. I liked that the canoe livery was right next door and I got to hop from winery to canoe in a matter of seconds. What I didn’t like about it was that it wasn’t your average, beautiful scenery, fields and fields of grapes, place to have your wedding winery. So if you’re not into all of that pretty, birds singing, sun shining over the hilly fields crap and you really just want to get down to business and taste some local wine, this place is for you! If you’re planning a wedding, also consider this place… but you may have to walk the bride down a gravel driveway and throw rice at the new couple’s «just married» canoe as they paddle their way to Breton Bay. Just sayin.
