Small town feel in a large city. Leon Valley is its own city, which became surrounded by San Antonio as SA grew. Walk in the door and be greeted by name. No long waits for popular books. Children’s wing is 4000 square feet and the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. LV residents, don’t miss your library!

The Leon Valley Public Library is a small cosy library. A little get away when you need some quiet time to yourself. It’s not as busy as the other library’s in the area which is why I like it. There are large round tables to utilize to get lots of studying done, and plenty of hard bound books for all the book lovers out there. The only negative I have is that you need to be a Leon Valley Resident to obtain a library card from them, otherwise it cost $ 20 for outside residents. Besides that, it hasn’t stopped me from visiting this place. It’s become a little home away from home.

This little library says, Kick back on a chair from the 70’s and read self help books to your heart’s content. Sure, it might add, we aren’t a big, glamorous, San Antonio library, but we have heart. And chess night. Oh, yeah. Admittedly, this library can’t compete with the efficient and glamorous San Antonio library system, but it has its own little, special niche. If you live in the boundaries of Leon Valley, you can get a library card for free. If you live outside this area, you can get a card for $ 20. Sure, the library has books, movies and computer access, but it also has some fun, small town things, like a storytelling festival and a Saturday morning T’ai Chi class. They also offer poetry contests, preschool hour, and a book club. The actual building itself is small and feels more like a used book store than a library, which is fine with me. There is plenty of seating, tables and comfy old chairs that encourage patrons to grab a book and a seat. The volunteer at the front desk was helpful and friendly. Overall, this library is a nice place with a homey feel and some quirky benefits.
