I just started eating there a few months ago, and all I can say is they’ve been a great place to go. The staff are nice as the day is long, and as helpful and attentive as can be. I don’t get how the reviewer wrote about everything being canned — the salad bar is pretty darned good, and 90% of it ain’t from some can! Neither is 75% to 85% of the main food bar. Sure, maybe the corn comes from a can, as well as a MAYBE a couple other items, but most of their food is as good or better than any ‘cafeteria style’ restaurant I’ve ever been to, and even better than some regular restaurants. I’m on a shoestring budget, and their senior special for $ 7-bucks, including sweet tea, is a great deal IMO. The ONLY problem I have with the place is ME; I love salad, and by the time I’ve finished mine, and then hit the main food bar, I wind up overdoing it almost every time I eat there. Never had to use their supposed messy bathroom, so maybe that’s changed by now. But all I can say is when it comes to ‘bang for the buck’ AJ’s is a great place, and their staff always gets 5-stars from me! Many times I’ve seen older folks more crippled than I am, and every time I’ve seen the waitstaff offer to go to the food bar for them — people just don’t come nicer than that. ALWAYS attentive and making sure you’re fine, which always causes me to tip as though it was a regular kind of restaurant, because they really do deserve a decent tip, because they work their butts off, making sure you’re both happy and satisfied. If I were to give some constructive criticism, it’d be that they need to chop their salad bar veggies up a little better, it’s a royal pain when you’ve heaped on the salad, get back to your table, and have to sit there cutting up your onions, green peppers and other things that are coarsely cut — but that’s a kinda picky suggestion, and one I’m sure a lot of folks would appreciate management changing. But again, it’s trivial. Great place, AJ’s is. I’ll probably eat there once a month. I never have left disappointed, other than how much I overstuffed myself!

This was the first place my husband tried, and he truly liked the country food. Mainly, and truthfully the only reason was for the fried whitefish on the buffet. I cannot tell you about the made to order menu, all I can tell you about is the over processed, bland food from a can on the buffet. I gave it a second try this past week, despite my misgivings, but for the hubz sake I did. I will say this, never again. Do not ask me. The service is good, good country ladies that are real sweet. Truly, but the food, ALL of it is from a can, over processed, bland, and watered down. I got violently sick from there that day. The food literally had a bad after taste, I had to stop. The whitefish was so old, it had hardened, and when you TRIED to pathetically cut into it, cold grease squeezed out of the sides. The lettuce was fresh, as well as the broccoli. The eggs from a bag, I cannot tell you. The mashed potatoes are decent, in fact, but that was it. The cottage cheese on the bar tasted funny, as well as the macaroni and cheese. It had an odd color to it. My husband bowed his head and relented, never again…

Ok, we went to AJ’s yesterday evening, the service was really good. Now the food now that was another story, it seems like the food is spoiled. The onions on the salad bar were awful. My fiancé and myself were sick from eating there. We go there a lot but now have decided to take a very long break from eating there. Come on guys change it up with some fresh foods.

I read on Topix all the time bad reviews for this place and don’t understand. I’ve never gotten bad food from here. The bar is always good. The only bad thing is it’s a shot in the dark if you get a good waitress. I also took off one star for the NASTY bathroom that is ALWAYS nasty!
