Xiphium

I am not at all happy with my haircut :(I specifically showed the stylist one of my old pic and asked to do the same haircut. I was mentally prepared that I will not get the exact same cut but the one which she did was no where near the picture I showed her !! The told her to do layers n I end up having straight at the back n little layers in front that too after specifying her ! Btw She tried really hard to do it right but was not able to correct it ! I heared a lot about xiphium but now I am disappointed :(

Xiphium is far and away the best salon I’ve ever gone to. They’re an Aveda salon which means nothing but fantastic products and stylists trained in the latest techniques. But what makes Xiphium special is the attitude (or lack thereof). I’m a busy mom of thee kids and yes, by the time get around to a haircut and highlights for myself, I’m in full ponytail mode and no makeup. It’s always a little humiliating to walk into a pretentious salon and just feel so… ick. My stylist Geena is skilled, cool, and so uplifting I never feel out-​of-​place and by the time she’s finished I walk out feeling like a queen! She listens to my needs and comes up with ways for me to even make the mommy ponytail look good. The icing on the cake is the no-​tipping policy. It was strange at first but it really is nice!

My stylist recently moved away from KC so I had to start the search for a new one, tough after so many happy hair years! Had an appointment to try out this salon, but had to cancel a few weeks before because of work. The receptionist was very distracted & when I told her that I needed a weekday evening appointment, she told me she couldn’t help me. That they had no appointments available… period, as in ever. I was very confused & she just told me she’d cancel my appointment & to have a nice day. Hmmm, so much for Kansas hospitality & guess I should look on the other side of state line for a stylist.

Xiphium is fantastic. Bess was kind, friendly, fun, creative and very skilled. I went in without a plan and walked out very happy and feeling great.
I’ve had mixed results from Aveda salons in NYC but Xiphium is actually the best experience I’ve ever had with Aveda. Everyone was sweet and I love the relaxing smells of Aveda products. Even their hair washing station hit me at a really great spot on my neck.
Bess transformed my super thick and over grown hair mop into a cute yet sophisticated and feminine angled bob with great movement and weight — perfect for summer.
I would highly recommend Xiphium and Bess!

I have been a fan of Aveda for a long time and have tried various locations in KC including OP and Crown Center salons. I hadn’t found a stylist that really fit me, so I once again googled Aveda and came across Xiphium. The customer service at this salon is exceptional right from the initial phone call.
I was informed all new clients must schedule an initial 30 minute consultation for $ 25 to discuss exactly what they want with the stylist while he or she checks out what they’ll be working with. The $ 25 then goes toward your service the day of your appointment.
I called around Thanksgiving hoping to get my hair colored by Christmas and scheduled my consultation for the week before Christmas with Mike. To my surprise, they were fully booked through February, almost 3 months out! Which I suppose shows both the high demand and loyalty of clients. I was disappointed but decided it must be worth the wait. Luckily, the incredibly friendly receptionists informed me I would be placed on a list and called immediately if any early spots happened to open up. It just so happened someone canceled the very next week, Christmas Eve, and I was able to get in!
At the consultation, I was given a tour of the salon, offered refreshments, and then asked several in depth questions about how I envisioned my hair after the color and why. The stylist had an iPad and asked me to scroll through several pictures and point out what colors were too dark, too light, and which styles were my favorite.
Knowing I am a student and therefore on a budget, Mike spent a lot of time with me deciding which technique would be the best bet for me as far as looking the best while lasting the longest amount of time between appointments. I appreciated the fact that he didn’t make me feel pressured to come in every 2 months, and tried to implement a color technique that would last anywhere from 4 – 6 months until I could (afford to) come back.
During the appointment, he was friendly, easy to talk to, and offered me several hair care tips. The color came out lovely as expected, and I was impressed with the service and the PERKS!
1. free hand massage during wash/​rinse.
2. free make-​up touch up before you leave.
3. they do not accept tips!
I thoroughly appreciate knowing the tip is included so I know exactly what I will be paying from the start, and also there are no qualms about how much to tip if you are not fully satisfied with the service (which was not the case here — just good to know). And if for whatever reason you were not happy with the color, you have 1 week to try it out and come back for a free touch up. Now that is all-​star customer service. Thank you Xiphium for the great experience, and I will definitely be back!

I’ve been going to Xiphium since they opened in Mission Farm and I have to say that there is something about this space and it’s people that keep bringing me back.
I had a facial today, my second, and Jaime is just fantastic. It’s the best money that I’ve spent. It’s worth every penny. I feel renewed and fantastic!
The other thing that I like about Xiphium is that it’s a no-​tip salon. They are all professional stylists who are, yes, providing a service, but most of all: They’re professional.

So after 3 facials and one haircut my opinion of Xiphium has only gone up. I love this place.
First– it’s an Aveda salon, which means the products are first rate and environmentally friendly (more than most anyway).
Second– no tipping. I love that. I prefer that the price include everything. I’ll buy some great products (which I assume the stylist gets extra credit for) so at least I get something for my money.
Last weekend I decided that I had avoided getting a haircut long enough and scheduled a cut with Samantha. Their prices range from $ 30 – 90 depending on the level of the stylist. Since my hair is pretty basic, I went for the $ 30. Now — get this– my $ 30 included (after discussing the cut): an initial scalp massage, shampoo, hand massage (while the conditioner was sitting for a few minutes), cut, blow dry and make-​up touch up afterwards.
WOW!
Most salons will offer all those services, but always at an extra price. Amazing. Now because Samantha was a lower tier stylist when she was finished, one of the senior stylists came over to evaluate the haircut and made some suggestions on how to improve it, which she did. So even if you don’t pay for a senior stylist the salon makes sure you are happy and the cut is up to their standards.
I’m sure when the gray starts to show, I’ll start having them do my coloring also. For now, I’m happy to have (finally) found a new home to get my haircut!

I’ve been to many Aveda and non-​Aveda salons, and this one is one of the best. I’d passed it a few times but never stopped in, that is, until I got a Living Social Deal for a facial at Xiphium.
My facial was incredible. When I arrived, I was given a tour of the salon and a glass of water. Then Jamie greeted me and took me back for my facial. I was given a wrap to change into and laid down on the facial chair. From beginning to end, I was relaxed and comfortable. The facial included a foot/​hand/​neck massage too, which was something I’d not ever received during a facial before. She was professional and knowledgeable. When my facial was complete, I was taken to the front to look over the products she used/​recommended. I loved how the checkout process was smooth and NOT pushy at all. The staff was incredible, and I love their policy of no gratuity.
I booked another facial for 8 weeks from now and also booked a hair appointment. I will definitely be back.

I’ve always loved Aveda, but on my student budget have only loved it from afar (much more frequently sitting in the student stylist’s chair at the cosmetology school with my fingers crossed.)
Imagine my excitement when I scored a Groupon for a facial at Xiphium. I was over-​the-​moon (as I suppose the other million people were who bought Groupon’s and filled up Jamie’s schedule to the brim.)
My visit had AMAZING customer service from beginning to end. Starting with a tour of the salon, followed by a lovely beverage as I waited, a fabulous foot/​hand/​neck massage with my facial (had no clue this didn’t come standard with facials until I talked to one of my gf’s who gets her’s elsewhere) and ending with a gift certificate to get me back in the door.
A week later my skin has never been so glowing or clear. Thank you Jamie! My face can’t wait to see you again.

I’m almost a little reluctant to tell others about this hair salon, because I love it so much (and getting an appointment with my favourite stylist is a bit like scheduling with The President).
However, I must tell you about this place — it’s amazing. Lovely location (Mission Farms, so you can pop over to grab a bite to eat at Blanc, or Zest, etc. afterwards). The salon itself is clean, bright and elegantly modern in décor. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the haircuts are phenomenal. I never see anyone leaving there who doesn’t have good hair. Stylists all seem to be super-​trained (no teenager is going to be learning the trade on your locks) and really know their stuff.
Each haircut starts with a gorgeous head massage. While the conditioner is soaking in during the hair wash, you get a hand massage. Finally, you get your make-​up touched up after you’re all done! I think men get a different set of treatments e.g. hot towel but (being not male) I can’t tell you for sure…
Best of all, they are reasonably priced and are ‘gratuity free’ — so you pay menu price.

I only go to Xiphium for two things, waxing and to buy product. It’s close to my work and so easy to hit on the way home. Jamie the esthetician is does an amazing job on brows, friendly, very quick yet she is so detailed in the shaping of your brow.

While I find it slightly annoying that you MUST schedule an initial consultation before receiving any color service, I do LOVE Xiphium for eye-​brow wax services. Best eyebrow waxing in the KC metro area. For sure. Worth every penny.

I still get my hair cut here (not as often as I should – I know, I know, trims make hair grow faster but I’m still scarred over the shortyshort cut over a year ago) but I’ve recently started getting my brows done at Xiphium as well.
If there’s one word that describes the girl who does waxing (Jamie, I believe?) it is THOROUGH. This isn’t just a wham-bam-rip-thankyouma’am wax job. Each brown is painstakingly groomed and shaped («pain» not really being part of that word though) and although it does take some extra time, it is certainly worth it.
I do believe I’ll keep making the long trek south to get beautified at Xiphium.
