Luigis is a well appointed Italian restaurant in downtown Leavenworth. The price points varied anywhere from nine to $ 30 dollars, and my friends and I stayed on the lower end of the price spectrum; however the food was adequate and the portions average. It took a while to get seated as well, even through the dining room was not busy. Good choice, expecially if staying at the Hampton Inn and are in walking distance.

This is a great location in downtown Leavenworth. But remember you are in downtown Leavenworth. They do a good job of presentation. The interior decorations and plates look nice, and the food tastes good. Service was good as well, and the waitress offered parmesan cheese like most italian restaurants do… but I had to stifle a laugh when the waitress brought out a container of cheese similar to what you would see at a place like Pizza Hut. They go to all that effort to provide a fine dining experience, but lack the small touches like freshly grated parmesan. Lots of good dessert options. The spumoni cheesecake was unique and excellent!

Pizza was great and the bread with olive oil/balsamic dip was amazing. The pasta pomodoro and tomato basil soup was okay. Like the new remodel and atmosphere. Look forward to coming back and trying more on the menu.

We really enjoyed the food. The meatballs are awesome. The bread is awesome, it was a little dark where they sat us. The front of the restaurant is gorgeous, but it looks like they ran out of money in the rear portion. The service was good, Cassie is very sweet and attentive, but not overly so. We will definitely be back.

Good service. Visually appealing new building. The food was somehow better at the old location. Wine selection is good. Nice relaxing atmosphere and great date place.

Mediocre. They try and market themselves as «fine dining», but fall short. Given this is Leavenworth, Kansas– so bless their hearts they try. I’m no Sommelier, but I thought it was strange that the«wine list» was a small box on the menu that just lists out«pino, Chardonnay, merlot, moscato, etc.» As opposed to listing actual brands/location. Don’t get me wrong the food is not bad, but I would not insist that you need to check it out either. I will maybe come back. Again this place was not terrible by any means, but not exactly a first rate dining experience either. The food was– meh.

Takes a lot of will power to eat here if you are trying to «eat light». Had a salad with the house tomato vinaigrette which was lovely and had some TODIEFOR eggplant soup! Looking at all my friend plates showed me that there is some amazing food here! The table break and dipping oil smelled divine! Don’t go if you are on a diet! Lol!

My husband and I went here for lunch today. First of all, we loved the old location and the food was great; we were eager to try the new locale. When we first walked in, they had just opened a few minutes before. Having said that, there was nobody there to greet us, and it looked like nobody was working. We saw a few people coming in that worked there; coming in late, not really concerned about guests waiting and not being seated. My husband and I finally were seated after standing there for a few minutes, and then nobody waited on us for nearly 10 minutes. My husband and I almost walked out. The waitresses didn’t seem to know who’s tables was whose, could barely speak good English, and I guess if you don’t order wine or something from the bar, you don’t get respectable treatment! We ordered the lunch special finally, and it was OK but the Stromboli was way too large for the stuffing inside I had to throw away most of the bread to get to the actual Stromboli. As for the atmosphere, the place looks decent, but the drywall work looks extremely shoddy.(That bothers me) but it’s the service that stood out as being above and beyond horrible! I’m a very patient person, but you do not treat customers like that! I’ve dealt in customer service all my life I know how you are supposed to treat customers in a restaurant. We will not be going back… I was very infuriated. They need to get their act together or they’re going to have to close that restaurant to just like a whole bunch of others in Leavenworth because they don’t have a clue on how to run a successful restaurant.

Just checked out Luigi’s for the first time since they opened. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the owner with a big smile and a Welcome. We were Immediately seated and the server made sure we sat at the back where it was warmer(cold, wet and dreary outside). The ambiance was very welcoming and they have done a great job with the décor. The rolls were served, hot and fresh. My husband ordered one of the specials Hungarian Goulash with penne and I ordered the chicken piccata. The food was very good. You get a lot of food served on big plates. Enough for a second meal. The prices were reasonable and our server was very attentive and friendly.

Okay! Let’s start from the beginning! I was taking out a co-worker last Friday for lunch! I said I had heard about Luigi’s opening up again — I was excited to go back! Based on our conversation she said she had already heard some negatives about the food, service«taking too long», etc. I said let’s give it a chance and do our own assessment. So we walked in and it was obvious from the onset some work was still going on… They had several large«desk like» cabinets to the immediate right. I was quite surprised that there was not a restaurant receptionist at the front! The receptionist is a vital role within any business, often acting as a go-between for the customer and other members of the staff. There should have been a person designated to that particular responsibility that immediately greeted and took customers to their seats — that did not happen. However, a very kind young lady«Joy» greeted us and asked us where we would like to seat! Of course, we love the sun so we sat right next to the two large windows! However, if I would have known that the windows had still not been properly sealed«finished» we would have requested other seating(not use to the amount of bugs coming into the window«especially when you’re trying to eat»). Joy immediately brought our drinks and came out with the bread(it took several minutes to get the oil dipping sauce for the bread). Joy, left us for a while and then another waiter showed up! He asked us if we needed refills — I said«yes»! He never came back with the drink refill or additional dipping sauce. Joy showed up and apologized and said she had been pulled off to wait on some other customers. She immediately had the drinks refilled, brought us fresh bread«still took a while to get the additional dipping sauce — should not have been that difficult». The bread was okay but for whatever reason it was just missing that little something from the old Luigi’s. The food took forever«50 minutes plus» to come! When you have only an hour for lunch it makes it quite difficult to get back to work on time! If you are working on the Fort you may want to avoid Luigi’s during the lunch hour until they can fine tune operations! I have to admit once the food arrived my co-worker immediately looked at my plate and said oh you got all the sauce and I got nothing! She had the same meal«lunch trio»! Now as far as the amount of product verses the price it was ridiculous — should have selected the salad! In addition, some of the food tasted like it came out of a frozen bag and then popped into the water boiled for a couple of minutes and slapped on a plate«I can do that at home»! In addition, the whole meal was under seasoned! When I go to an Italian restaurant I want to taste a little bit of Italy — I did not get that at Luigi’s! Well, after the meal I explained to Joy that I was happy with her service«the tip reflected that» but totally dissatisfied with the food and the lack of ambiance! On a business end from what I saw I would have made absolutely sure that the local community knew that this was a soft opening(i.e., training personnel, maybe some food issues, service, not finished with the construction, etc.). This was definitely not a grand opening — it would not have been acceptable in Kansas City! However, I do believe in giving businesses a second chance so I turned to my co-worker and said you know Luigi’s was a pretty good restaurant before so let’s come back«my treat» in 4 weeks! If we return in 4 weeks and there is no change then we will not be back!

positives: The Atmosphere was very nice. The wait staff was very nice. They carry great German beer. Pizza was great. negatives: Salad made my wife sick.(probably isolated incident). Bar manager was very rude and disrespectful. Upon ordering our food at the bar, he came and said«I need you guys to pay your bill before you leave.» I thought he was joking, but he was serious. We didn’t leave because, the other waitress gave him a «OMFG look.» No one greeted us when we walked in. We won’t be coming back due to the Bar manager(the old guy). I’m quite disappointed as we were looking for a place to host events with my CGSC class.

The new location is very modern and much larger than the old location. What was lost was the charm of the old building. We had about a 30 minute wait as the place seemed to be full. The waiting area and chairs were very comfortable, although the outside door was broken and seemed to stay open allowing a major draft(the door closer was broken). After being seated the bread was brought out before we saw a wait staff or our drinks. We placed our order and the staff was very attentive. I did find it odd that there was no salt or pepper on the tables. In fact the table was devoid of any decorations, just a bare table and place settings. We placed our order and our meals came out in about 15 minutes. The salad and house dressing was excellent, and the Pasta Sampler and Spaghetti Bolognese were very good and came out hot. As before the staff was very attentive other than our waitress. She finally brought our check about 15 minutes after the bus staff had cleared the table. She then returned only after being told by the hostess. Our money was taken but she didn’t return with our change. We waited another 10 minutes and the hostess finally told the manager who brought back our change and apologized for our wait. They have only been open a week and the food is worth coming back again. The staff was very good, although our waitress needs some training. We will be back in a few weeks and I believe they will do a much better job. And hopefully will have the doors fixed so they will stay closed as winter is fast approaching.

The new location has much better atmosphere and waitress was very nice. When we asked to make a substitution to the sampler meal our waitress went and asked and came back to let us no we could not. This was even considering the item was a lower cost menu item then the item me and my wife wanted to substitute out. This was not a major issue, but never had this issue at any other Italian restaurant. The biggest complaint though was the food we did get I had the lasagna and it was definitely not the best I have had(including burnt noodles) and personally have made better myself. Even the old location had a better lasagna. My wife had the chicken parmigiana it too had burnt edges and was dry. We had high hopes for the new place, but we won’t come back for a few months in hopes they will work out these issues.

I was excited that the restaurant reopened in its new location, but they appear to be short staffed. I waited four minutes for someone to greet and seat me. Fifteen minutes later and no server, I left. I’m giving it 3 stars because the other diners appeared to be enjoying their meals.

Awesome to have them back at the new location! The food is just as great as I remember it. The service wasn’t too bad considering it was the first day. I’m sure it will only get better. We’ll be back!
