Dora Baker’s Bridal Alterations

Awful experience. This lady is beyond crazy! She won’t listen and will treat you like you are the most ignorant individual out there. For example, if you don’t know the exact material your dress is. I went for an alteration and she had the most awful attitude and had no patience, let alone customer service skills. I walked out of there feeling so powerless and stupid, she will criticize you in every which way possible. I honestly don’t know how she’s in business.

If it was possible I would give her –5 stars. WORST EXPERIENCE of my life. This LADY IS a NIGHTMARE. STAY AWAY from her. Her supposedly lower prices are not worth her lectures and criticism of character!!!
I left Dora’s place hysterically crying because she was verbally abusive to me but to hear her talk it was because I couldn’t afford her. I had been to a couple of seamstresses before her and they were both pleasant experiences even though I told them I had to check other places. I was trying to find the best price since my budget was a bit tight.
Furthermore, she CUT my dress!!! I have a corset lace up dress, she CUT the pieces off my dress that go behind the laces, neither of the other two seamstresses did that! Why would you start cutting someone’s dress before you have a signed contract and you are hired!
She quoted $ 345 for hemming, tighten my straps and to cover up my bust area a bit. She also said I had to buy the lace bringing the grand total to $ 645. I was quiet after the quote and she asked what I thought, I shook my head not wanting to speak but she said go ahead be honest. I said I honestly can’t afford that and she immediately began a triad about how I am paying other vendors 3x more what she is asking and how brides buy dresses without leaving a lot of money for alterations. Followed by the list below. Needless, to say I was quite hurt by the time I left. I cried so hard.
Things she said, which have nothing to do with business:
1. You need to get closer to God
2. You need to pray more
3. You are a nervous person
4. I’ll start praying for you
5. Change your venue and you can afford me, I told her the other venues were booked for my date… she said get married at someone’s house then
6. Change your menu & you can afford me
7. You are a nervous person (never heard that in my life)
I told her no one had ever spoken to me like this and she started yelling about how I am trying to make her feel guilty for not being able to afford her. I couldn’t get out of my dress fast enough without ripping it. I running out of her house crying and she was STILL yelling at me. This woman is truly EVIL.

Dora is great! She does her job and does it well. My dress fit like a glove. I love how convenient she is because she works from her home. She is a little far out (I drove an hour — one way — for my alteration appointments) but it was well worth it. Her prices are unbeatable compared to in-​house or in-​town seamstress. I had a Winnie Couture gown and they do not offer in-​house alterations, so I found Dora and she was awesome.
She works around your schedule and is quick with responding to phone calls! She even texts and that is always a plus for me! That is the best and quickest way to get in touch with me. Thank you, Dora!

I bought my dress off the rack from a local dress outlet that recommended that I go to their «high-​end couture» seamstresses in the city only problem was that they were charging me $ 600 – 700 minimum for the alterations I would want! I knew I had to keep looking and found Dora on Unilocal/​weddingwire and read her amazing reviews. She is doing even more alterations than the high-​end stores had quoted me at nearly half the price!!! HIGHLY recommend her for dress alterations, she has 40+years experience from working at the same high-​end stores in the city before deciding to branch off on her own. She’s so sweet, too! My dress now looks more amazing than I could have ever imagined.
Best advice, take your dresses to Dora before dealing with seamstresses in the city with your dress alterations.

Dora is literally the best! I had a bridesmaid dress that was ordered about two sizes too big last year and when I came to ATL for the wedding I had a week to try to get it fixed. I got it to Dora by Monday that Thursday she had it fitted perfectly to me!
This past year I got married and bought my dress in Atlanta (I live in Florida) because I knew I could count on Dora to fit my dress. She evened out the hemline, added boning and more support and fitted it perfectly. It was done in a quick amount of time and it looked amazing! If and when I ever need important clothes to look and fit me great I will always go to Dora, she may seem disorganized but she gets it done and stays on task! Love her!
–If you are a dog person, and she isn’t too busy (she usually is really busy) ask to her see her St. Bernard, its the sweetest dog I have ever met!
