The Waffle Iron is the best breakfast place in Lawrence, and is the only restaurant on Mass St. that actually serves waffles. The Bloody Bar is awesome because you can create your own. The Waffle Iron also has Alchemy’s nitro brew coffee on tap! All the waffle variations I’ve tasted have been amazing, but the Pumpkin Waffle has a special place in my heart.

I visited this establishment with my former boyfriend several months ago. The place was busy, but a table opened up after a few minutes of standing around. They only had two employees working as both order-taker and server, which made some of the communication confusing. It took us well over 30 minutes to get our order. The guy I was with went up to counter to politely ask about our waffles, and the man making the waffles countered with, «You know, at The Roost, the wait is sometimes an hour,» which didn’t address the concern with our order. After more waiting, the server/order-taker apologized and gave us a complimentary waffle to try out meanwhile. When our order was finally called, my ex approached the counter to retrieve our waffles, and the«chef» told him right away, «So you’re the troublemaker…» Even if it was supposed to be a joking term of endearment, it wasn’t taken as so. As kind of a foodie, I can’t complain about the food, which was fantastic. However, customer service was not up to par, and it didn’t help that my company had a bad time, was offended, and had no intention of returning.

This place is so dang good. I had a group meet there on a Friday morning and the place was pretty empty. After eating I was shocked that the line wasn’t out the door. The variety is wonderful. A mix of sweet and savory options. Each one that passed by looked better than the one before. I had blackberry and lemon curd and I could have made myself sick eating it forever because it was so good. The staff was fantastic. They were polite and informative. We lucked out and the cook was experimenting so he brought us out a plate of different options. Each one was better than the next! The brown butter one was killer. I would put this one your«must go» list for sure.

Absolutely out of this world. I am a foodie and have visited nearly every food establishment in the Downtown Lawrence area and this place is incredible. I tried the waffle by itself before putting anything on it and it is the best I have ever had, ever. A waffle is a waffle you think? This place will make you change your mind…

My friend and I made the drive over from KC to try their waffle board. The presentation of the waffle board is beautiful, although the price is much steeper than what it would be if you just ordered the waffles individually. I liked some of the flavors better than others, but overall, the waffles tasted great and we enjoyed the experience, and I would love to come more often if I lived closer. Their hours are a bit of a nuisance, as they’re only open from 9 – 1 on Friday through Sunday, but maybe they’ll be expanding that soon.

Went to the Waffle Iron for the first time today. My waffle with«caramel apple» topping was delicious. The staff are as great as the waffles and coffee were. Go there, it’s great fun.

Don’t go for the coffee. Disappointed that when served cold coffee and we told the staff we were avoided. Went after researching good breakfast places in Lawrence. Expensive and trying to hard to take simple and over create.

I’m sure these waffles are delicious but I won’t be finding out. I came here with a group of friends and my girlfriend, who unfortunately can’t have gluten(actually has celiacs not«I don’t do gluten»). I was happy to see that there was a huevo ranchero waffle on the menu since we didn’t realize there was literally nothing on the menu except waffles. I figured it would be simple enough to just get the huevo and skip the waffle. Apparently that’s a little too much to ask. When The«chef» heard our request he looked over at us with a condescending glare and informed me «ummm yeah, we don’t do that» I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for several years. I understand that sometimes customers have unrealistic or ridiculous requests. However offering to pay full price, for half of a dish that you have all the ingredients to prepare, due to dietary restrictions, is not one of them. Doing what you can to meet a customers needs is a key tenet of the service industry. You’re not a renowned chef in a high end bistro bud. Don’t act offended that I want to make a change to your«art». Leave the waffle and your ego on the side and give me an egg with some salsa. Thanks, XOXO

Took my grandparents there this afternoon. Stellar. The waffles are light, fluffy, and crisp with options from simple butter/vanilla syrup to piled on decadent. The chef is creative and has a ever changing menu with awesome scratch creations. The building is up a half flight with full length windows for great views outside. The perfect weekend breakfast/lunch spot. Don’t miss this spot!

I have had this place on my radar all summer and finally got in for breakfast. It was everything I expected and more. Very cool atmosphere, friendly, fun service and the waffles of my dreams. I ordered the Hank Benedict — so creative and full of interesting flavors: eggs benedict on a waffle, what’s not to love?(don’t judge the punctuation) We also got to sample the strawberry cheesecake waffle(thank you for the treat!!) — fantastic! I’m a fan and will be back in the very near future.

We drove up from Kansas City to try this out after reading a KC Star article. The poor service will not bring us back. We were the first ones through the door, ordered 2 waffles and were the last ones in the restaurant to be served. The waffles were okay if you can be patient and not in any hurry to eat.

They’ve definitely solved their timing issues. From putting in my order to the waffles arriving at my table was less than 5 minutes on a busy Sunday morning. The quality and flavor of the waffles were both great. I had the maple bacon and my friend had the vanilla bean maple. Both were fluffy and flavorful. The only real problem was that the waffles are served on cold plates(which means the waffle is cold in only a few minutes.) The butter was also cold and difficult to spread, but the chef apologized about that and cited failure to set it out early enough, so it’s not the usual situation. Hot plates and soft butter would have made this brunch 5 stars. The mimosa I had was also quite good and Alchemy Coffee does the beverage service, so coffee was excellent. The space is pleasant and roomy with great light.
