Static Hair Salon

As a girl with a pixie cut, I’m really cautious about who I let come near my hair with a pair of scissors. I finally had to choose a salon in Lawrence, because driving back to western KS became impractical. I took a chance with Static, and I was very pleased! The atmosphere is very inviting, and the staff are nice and are good conversationalists. (Free coffee and green tea are also a plus!)
Debbie cut my hair and waxed my brows, and she did a fantastic job. The people here care about their work and are great at what they do. I would recommend them!

UPDATE: Jen, my stylist, emailed today to apologize for my experience. She wanted to do something to make up for it, but as I live in Los Angeles and don’t make it back to Lawrence very often, that doesn’t seem likely.
But it was nice that she responded & I wanted to make it known that she did try to remedy the situation. I will bump my rating up a star to three due to this.

I have thick and straight Asian hair. Not everyone knows how to cut it. I browsed Unilocal,called in the morning, and made an appointment for the afternoon with Debby (or Debbie?). I knew what I wanted — an inverted, layered bob. I had the same haircut about 1 month ago, but my hair grows quickly. She did a great job. It cost $ 40, $ 50 with tip.

Guys, go to Kevin for haircuts. He really understands men’s hairstyles.

KU student and just needed a quick trim. Really cool place, and as opposed to the green room, they got me in the same day as I called. Service was friendly and I loved the cut. Taylor cut my hair and was polite and knew exactly what I wanted! Highly recommended.

I went through a few years of bottom-​dollar haircuts in Lawrence, then tried a referral from a friend to go to a high-​end, upstairs salon space. The space was quaint, but the cuts just weren’t, well, cutting it. After finding Static here on Unilocal,I scheduled an appointment with Taylor. Right from the first time, she has been an excellent stylist and an earnest and enjoyable person to talk to. I’ve been going back to taylor for over two years now, and now that my friend (who I also referred to Taylor) and I are leaving town, I think that giving her a glowing review is the least I could do. I’m sure that the other stylists are plenty good, but my experience with Taylor has been so consistently rewarding that I need to name her in specific.
The salon itself is clean, eclectic, comfortable (complementary coffee from Henry’s across the street), and accommodating of last-​minute scheduling. This is the first salon that I have found that really exceeded my expectations in every way.

Not a good experience for me. I went in for ombré and hair cut. The hairdresser was knowledgeable but the outcome of her work was a disaster. Terrible hair cut, uneven and dead ends still visible. When it came to combing out my hair she grabbed a brush and starting hacking away at my head, breaking hair and not giving a damn. She only brushed the sides and a strip of the top but not the back and THEN HID THE KNOTS UNDERNEATH THE COMBED PART. Like I wouldn’t notice! Then sent me away with wet hair. Lost a $ 100. Not worth it. I went to another salon which did a marvelous job.

A great, great experience all round at Static! Jen is really a talented stylist! She listened to my thoughts and wants, threw in some of her own ideas, and the results are fabulous. I think she takes the time to get to know the type of hair she’s working with which makes such a difference. We did a trim and shape-​up, some ombré color, and a gloss overall. Jen was super knowledgable about the products Static offers and sent me home with a curl defining spray and a dry oil sample which I LOVE, it’s amazing! The ombré color is simply beautiful (if I say so myself ;) and the cut is stylish and easy to wear. The overall ambience of the salon is chic but friendly, and Wendy at the front desk is so sweet. So happy to have found my new salon home in Lawrence!

I’ve been seeing Jen for nearly 3 years now, and she is a goddess. I don’t even live in Lawrence anymore — thankfully the drive from Olathe isn’t far — but I wouldn’t dream of finding another stylist or salon. All of the staff at Static are ridiculously friendly (Zeke at the front desk makes my day and is always super helpful in getting me in to see Jen), the atmosphere is so hip and fun, and I always walk out of there feeling great.
I cannot praise this place enough.

I went in there to get a simple haircut and wow did the lady butcher my hair! On their website it said she was an expert in men’s haircuts (I think her name was Taylor)…she’s not! It was by far the worst haircut I have ever had and that’s without exaggeration. Everyone that saw me afterwards asked me where did you go so I wont go there. I’ve had better haircuts from Great Clips for $ 10. I wanted to go somewhere else to have it fixed but I couldn’t cause I had no more hair left to cut! It was horrible! I went and bought a hat as soon as I left the place. I really don’t know how this place has such good reviews.

I enjoy going to Static because I feel pampered every time. I have long hair and I’m especially protective of it after spending years dodging hair stylists who wanted to cut it off. I don’t have to worry about it at Static. They’re all really nice there and it helps they have a punch card program so after you’ve gotten 10 haircuts, you can get one free. The place isn’t cheap, I spend around $ 50 – 60 including tip each time I’m there for a trim, so the card is a nice treat. I’m trying to get my partner to switch over to going to this salon rather than going to Super Cuts since they’re growing their hair out, but so far the price of Static is the only thing holding them back.

I love this salon! I have been going to Kevin Shutts for more that six years, and he never puts me in a rut! Roxanne the owner is awesome as well. If you are new to town and looking for a top quality stylist, this is a great salon to try!

OK, first, background. I’ve been looking for someone to cut my hair in Lawrence for six years. I admit, I was totally spoiled. I had been going to the same hair dresser for several years in my hometown (Pittsburg, Kansas), and she totally got me. When I went through my rebellious, red-​haired teenage phase, she was there. When I became a less-​willing-​to-​go-​crazy young professional she was there. That being said, I’ve gotten haircuts in Lawrence that have made me cry – and I’m not a crier.
Enter Jen at Static. Not only does my hair look awesome – which, if I may say so, it does – she was awesome. She explained step-​by-​step how to style my new cut, discussed exactly which products she was using and why, and generally seemed to love her job and be really up on hair.
I believe this will be the beginning of a long, happy new relationship!

I have lived in LA and DC and have found NO ONE, NO ONE like Roxanne. I only wish I didn’t have to buy a plane ticket to see her :(

Go to Andiy. She’s awesome! She cuts a precise bob, a creative short mens cut, and she specializes in extensions. She’s a very smart, skilled, hairdresser. I agree with the other reviewer: this place is hip, which also makes it surprising that everyone is so sweet.

I wish Jessi could do my hair everyday. I always get a great cut and color at Static, and they are so nice! Static has a hip atmosphere, good prices, and most importantly they do a fantastic job with hair. My husband and a bunch of our friends go here too. They listen to what you want, but they are up on what the latest trends are. I also really like the products they use, the color makes my hair feel really silky, and nothing has that chemical smell of some hair salons.
