The prices for some items are amazing here but have you look around to find things. I find the jewelry collection to be on-point, but clothing quality and choices are a bit lacking. My favorite parts of the store are home décor and beauty products. such a wide selection!

From my guy’s perspective, shopping at a discount shop like TJ Maxx is something of a downer. The space seems worn out and screaming for a facelift. There is always stuff out of place or on the floor, and I seldom see anyone about to clean it up. The lines at check out move slowly regardless of the number of cashiers, and there are often disputes between customers and staff as to listed prices and what comes up on the register upon scanning. It is a weary process. Yet, I have shown up here once or twice a year for a few decades to buy dress shirts for my suits, and the basics(T’s, Uwees, Socks), that cost multiples of the price here at the Bloomies, Nordstrom’s, L & T’s and Macy’s of the world for the same name brands. It is the compromise I make with myself for spending too much on the wools, tweeds, and herringbones that are the daily armor of a courtroom knight. Now that Mercer Mall is reinventing itself into a higher end retail center, TJ, Ross, and some of the others must recognize their days are numbered. With Nordstrom Rack, EMI, and the like on the scene, the jig may be up when their leases are up for renewal.

Service is okay and there is always a long line. The store could be kept a little neater but this is TJ Maxx, not Bloomingdale’s. I’ll take the long lines and sloppy fitting rooms for a good deal.

When I shop at this TJ Maxx I always find at least 10 things I want to buy. The last time I was at TJ Maxx in Mercer Mall I bought a pair of Anne Klein black stretch thong sandals for $ 29.99. I love Anne Klein and Calvin Klein but TJ Maxx’s prices are not found anywhere else. I saw a fuschia wool blend coat I wanted so badly but never bought sadly for me.

The service here is either 0 stars, if it were possible, or 5 stars. I wanted to purchase a bracelet from the jewelry counter and asked one of the cashiers at the front registers if someone could come over. She rolled her eyes and said«Give me a few minutes.» No problem. I can definitely understand that you have to call someone, etc. so I gladly went back to the counter to browse a bit more while waiting. Except a few minutes turned into 15 and by then, another customer was waiting after me. I was about to go and ask again when a female manager showed up and went directly to help the woman, who was AFTER me. The other customer even told the manager that I was first but this sorry excuse for a store manager just snapped, «You have to wait.» No «excuse me» or «I’m sorry.» Well pardonnez moi, sil vous plait. Another employee finally showed up and she very graciously helped me with my purchase. I mentioned the encounter to her, and she immediately apologized and called another manager, Robert, over to explain the situation. He was very sincere and gave me an unexpected 20% discount on the purchase(he refunded the original amount and discounted the original price), as a way of apologizing for the encounter, along with a promise to address the other manager. Robert and Allison(the other cashier) were great and actually cared about helping out the customers. Sometimes, I just feel like this chain has either exemplary service or atrocious excuses for service. Anyhow, I figured that I would average the 0 and the 5, which yields 3 stars. But in all honestly, the female manager should be fired or be administered some form of disciplinary consequence.
