UYE-Steppin’ Out- Goyemon Grubfest Round 3!!!

15 of us gathered at Sushi House Goyemon last night for Nelson’s UYE Grubfest Round 3. I was unable to go to either of the other two but I’m glad I made this one. 15 Unilocalers and/​or friends ate in the private room off the main dining room. We had two tables that would seat 10 at each. It’s very cozy and a great place for a gathering like this.
Because we were at two tables, different things were ordered depending on were you were seated. Nelson was at my table and he started the ordering by saying we’d have four orders of each of the specials that are listed on a white board near the sushi bar. The rest of us through out our suggestions and soon the servers were bringing out plate after plate of nigiri. It was superb.

Amberjack
Shrimp tempura

Spider hand roll
Tempura vegetables
Japanese snapper
9−1−1 roll
Salmony belly
Takoyaki
Uni
Pork belly
Hamachi
Lychee sorbet

I know I have missed some things but I think I had several of everything here except the 9−1−1 roll. That almost became a school boy dare kind of roll. It’s a roll made with spicy tuna and cucumber and kicked up several notches with the addition of habanero sauce. The other table got the first roll and we thought one of the guys would die. He drank two glasses of water, ate two packs of sugar, and his face turned a beet red. That’s when the school boy «bet you won’t» started. I stayed out. I’ll make a fool of myself at home but I do like spicy food.
Standouts of the night for me were the conch, amberjack, and salmon belly. The uni was very good, better than I’ve had before, and the pork belly was outstanding! Goyemon now has takoyaki – something I never knew existed. They round, deep fried balls. The inside is ground octopus and other items. They’re the size of a 50 cent piece and come with a dipping sauce. They made the last orders for us and the rest of the restaurant was out of luck. I think I’ll be back for more of these. It’s sort of like an octopus hush puppy.
Thanks to Nelson for doing all the behind the scenes work with Goyemon and reserving the room. Thanks also to the great Unilocalers with whom I had the pleasure to spend over two hours eating, talking, and laughing. You are a great bunch! This was my second time eating at Sushi House Goyemon and it’s a lot more fun when you have company like this than eating alone. I look forward to Round 4.
Finally, thanks to the good sushi chefs at Goyemon and the servers who put up with our raucous behavior and our constant orders. You were great!

I think it’s about time for me to write a review for this place… I enjoy coming here with great friends and family and taking advantage of their all you can eat sushi special, it’s always my preferred choice if your a sushi lover. The one thing that stands out to me and a must try! Is the pork belly. This dish is addicting melt in your mouth teriyaki glazed goodness. I could never get enough of that dish. Also if your a spicy kind of person you must try the 911 roll, tried it last night with some friends as a dog dare and maybe next time we’ll do the extra spicy for shites and giggles…
The friendly staff and ambiance is welcoming from beginning to end. Your greeted when you walk into the doors with «irrasshaimase» by the sushi chefs. However the wait at times maybe long but that’s because this place is the BOMB! I don’t mind waiting 20−40mins. for a table, maybe not at other sushi places. But at this place waiting for table is worth it once you get seated.
