Smokilicious Bar-B-Q

Experience: I have been wanting to try Cody’s forever and finally thought I’d stop and get some for me and my friends. To my surprise, they moved and this new BBQ place, Smokilicious opened in its place. It was a Friday around 3:30pm.
Facility: The BBQ place is located inside the bar Hard Hat Lounge. There is just a counter to order from, but you can eat your BBQ in the bar or outside on the patio.
Service: Dan is the cook/​owner, and he told me this place started 2 weeks ago. He was friendly and helped me make my selections with his suggestions. He let me sample one of the meats and even threw in some cornbread with my big order. He even was so concerned about my happiness, he asked me to give him a call to provide feedback. That’s some serious passion about your work. :)
Food: here’s all the food we got…
Chopped beef — ⁵⁄₅ — to look at, it was a little strange to see tiny cubes of beef, but after my first mouthful, I was sold. It was moist, tender and flavorful.
Ribs — 3.5÷5 — I ordered mine «wet» with BBQ sauce versus «dry» with only the rub. These were tasty and smoked well. A tad heavy on the black pepper for me too.
Sausage — ⁴⁄₅ — I was a little worried it would be dry, because they were so dark in color; however, they weren’t, and they had a good smoked flavor.
Beans — ⁵⁄₅ — I am not a big BBQ bean fan, because they are usually on the sweet side, but these were not sweet at all. They had chunks of meat and a savory flavor. They reminded me of red beans and rice. Loved them!!!
Cole slaw — ⁴⁄₅ — I liked this cole slaw. It’s not your typical sweet slaw, but vinegar based tart one, which I loved.
Potato salad — ³⁄₅ — Dan told me it is not homemade, but everything else is, and I could tell. It’s was decent, but not my fav.
Cornbread — ⁵⁄₅ — This was sweet, moist and amazing! It had chunks of corn and chilies in it to add to the flavor. You have to try this!!!
Habanero Sweet BBQ sauce — ⁵⁄₅ — This sauce was great… I put it on my beef and my sausage links. It added the perfect balance of sweetness with a nice kick of heat in the finish.
Overall: I liked this spot and the service was awesome! It’s nice when you can tell that they care about their food. Most things are not traditional, but that’s what make it unique and sets it apart from other BBQ spots in town. Come try for yourself.
