Good frozen custard ice cream but expensive. They have a good variety of toppings and the service has always been good. They always have fast food items to choose from but I stick with the desert terms.

The strawberry shortcake sundae was SUPERB! Glad we stopped in. Would definitely come back if we come back down this way again!

This place is a must if ever visiting Las Cruces, New Mexico. I tried both the Straw-ana and Rocky Road. Both were excellent. I only wish I was in town to try more flavors.

Caliche’s! We waited ONEHOUR in line last night for our delicious cup of custard. I always get the pumpkin spice caliche when it is in season: from September to December-ish. They actually take a slice of pumpkin pie and blend it with the custard, then top that sucker with whipped cream; YUM! My runner-up is the strawberry cheesecake, which also consists of chunks of cheesecake. Both are phenomenal, and both are worth the wait. P. S. The line was only an hour because it was customer appreciation day and everything on the menu was half off. Don’t expect to wait longer than 10 minutes on a normal night. ;)

Besides pizza, ice cream is my favorite food. Shit… ice cream may be my favorite food with pizza coming in second. Either way, if I am on vacation and find somewhere local that has some kind of frozen goodie, I am on it like white on rice! After our dinner at La Nopalito, we drove down here to get some custard. We went through the drive through and I placed my order for a «Gizmo» which was frozen custard, caramel, hot fudge and your choice of nuts(salted pecans). My wife ordered a chocolate custard with brownie bits. Total was just under $ 11.00. Here is how it was… Gizmo– This thing sounded amazing. Any time you can get hot fudge, caramel and salted pecans paired with custard, you go for it! They layer this sundae perfectly. Some hot fudge and caramel on the bottom, custard, more hot fudge and caramel and then a ton of crunchy, salted pecans on top. This sundae was great. The only bad thing was that the custard melted extremely fast. I understand that hot fudge will melt custard, but portions of this thing was melting into soup almost instantly. I had to eat it real fast(fine by me) to get as much solid custard as I could. The hot fudge and caramel sauce were so rich and sweet! I loved it. The salted pecans were heavenly, too! Can’t imagine a better combo of flavors. Reminded me of the turtle sundae from Culvers. Very similar and very delicious! My wife didn’t like hers as much as I liked mine, but she still ate hers pretty quick if that tells you something ;-). Service was friendly. Their drive through is a little weird. You pull up to one window, order and pay for your stuff, then drive about 10 feet to another window where the same person who took your order then hands you your item. Seems a bit inefficient but if it works for them, it works for them. I would definitely come back to try out their other creations.

The custard is good but the prices make it not worth it. Also they don’t have a restroom which is gross if you need to wash your hands(although they did give me a wipe to use which is not like being able to wash). Yummy but expensive(except the root beer floats are a good deal)

Perfect spot for frozen custard. I had not heard of it until my aunt suggested I try it, while attending classes at NMSU. My favorite is the Hot Fudge Sundae with SALTED pecans(you do have a choice between regular and salted, try the salted the taste adds to the flavor!). I was never a custard fan, but I am a big fan of Caliche’s. I will drive the 3 hours from home just to enjoy this frozen custard delight. Service is always great and our order is correct every time. We have tried many of the hot dogs as well. The Aggie dog is great! I wish our kids had decided to attend NMSU so I would have a better excuse to have Caliche’s, but thinking about it, it is probably for the best! This is also a pet friendly establishment. Our dog loves the pup cone, we usually take him for his birthday. There is only outside seating, but you have nice views to enjoy of the Organ Mountains. This dessert is perfect winter and summer!

I raved about this place before. I guess it was posted on the other Caliches location one. Um this place is good. I discovered I LOVE the Sandbox. But if I ever go again, I will not go to the drive through. FYI — my sister and I went up and ordered at the windows. standing there, someone in the drive through asked for some smoothie or drink or whatever it was. The chick inside who was working, filled it too much to the top and SLURPEDITFROMTHATCUP. THENPROCEEDEDTOCOVERITWITH A LID. WTF?! JUSTHEADSUPIFYOUEVERGOTHROUGHDRIVETHROUGHANDCANNOTSEEWHATTHEYAREDOING. Yeah, all caps because that was disgusting to see. Where are the hygiene manners, people. GROSS.

I’ve never understood all the fuss about this place. Maybe it’s because there really aren’t any other ‘ice cream’ shops in town? They only serve Vanilla. You can get that Vanilla just about any way you want it — sundaes, floats, shakes, cones. But, again only Vanilla. All the fuss for Vanilla? Seriously? Probably a fun place to stop w/kids. They do have ‘Poochie Cones” for dogs. So, maybe take the whole family and enjoy a bit of roadside nostalgia — remembering days when you could casually pull into a drive-in roadside Ice Cream Shoppe and get anything you wanted — in Vanilla. Big Plus for the Poochie Cones and simplicity of a local business. Just wish they had something besides… yeah Vanilla.

This is the best damn custard in the world. They have other things on the menu too, but please get the custard. If you’re a sweet tooth, get the Gizmo with salted pecans. The salt might give you pause, but do override your hesitation. It really has a nice kick with the caramel and hot fudge. I like to get the sundae with blueberries and mangos since fruit is healthy and I’m watching my girlish figure. I don’t think they have any other flavors of custard, which is good because custard should not be flavored in my opinion, it should be topped.

I thought I’d tag my review to the newer location, since it has fewer hits, but both places in town are essentially the same. This one is newer and is a little less rough around the edges, but the product is the same. And one could argue that the older location has a bit more charm, but meh, all the same to me. This place is great for cold, sweet treats. I prefer their blended treats(think Blizzards) and you can get them mixed with pretty much anything you want. They’ll mix and match just about anything on the menu if you ask them to. Want a strawberry shortcake with raspberries instead? No problem. Rocky road with cashews? Sure, why not. You name it, they’ll do it. Everyone I’ve dealt with at both locations has been friendly, and the service is quick. Honestly the only reason I’m knocking a star off is because I miss my self-serve yogurt stands. I know, not fair to Caliche’s. But at least I’m honest. :P
