Smiley Thai To Go

First time here, but will definitely be back soon! My husband and I loved the sampler for two and the chicken cashew entrée we shared. Everything was so fresh. Delicious. Also had some great Thai tea.

Smiley Thai is fantastic! I’ve eaten Thai food all over the world, and Smiley is easily in my top 5! The ladies are great and their recommendations are always perfect. My litmus test for a Thai joint is Chicken Pad Thai Phet Mak-​Mak (very, very spicy). The Pad Thai at Smiley is not a saucy Pad Thai. This is typically regional in Thailand, with northern regions having saucier versions. Their Pad Thai (Phet mak-​mak) is a great blend of sweet and heat. They also have a great red curry, tom yum gai and their tom khan is very creamy. All-​in-​all you can’t go wrong with Smiley!

We would definitely return. I believe it was the owner who helped us with menu questions and was very friendly. Huge portions & the food was delish!

Great quick and fresh lunch. The service was very fast and the food came out fresh and hot. Would definitely come back for more.

Smiley Thai To Go (Which happens to be the same as Whan’s Thai To Go — Same prices, menu etc…) is located in a strip mall near an Albertsons grocer… and who doesn’t love some strip mall Thai when in the mood for something spicy and don’t have a lot of time to spare? I was in the area for a training class and I didn’t have much time to dilly dally, so I jumped on Unilocal to find the closest Thai joint to the Pinellas County S.O.
You walk in to see a pictorial menu above the cash register… just like your local Chinese spot.
After much deliberation… translation — I got what I get at every Thai spot I visit for the first time… and every time after that… which is Tom Yum Soup and a Yum Beef Salad.
Tom Yum Shrimp (Spice Level — Hot) $ 3.95
The Tom Yum Shrimp Soup came out of the kitchen in no time and was immediately followed by the always welcome spice tray. The soup contained two shrimps, Thai chilies, lemongrass, other veggies and some good spice. It was a good portion and I appreciated that there wasn’t an up-​charge for the seafood addition. Overall it was decent, made better by a good portion size and low price.
Yum Beef Salad (Spice Level — Hot) $ 7.95
The Spicy Beef Salad arrived shortly after I had devoured my soup and contained lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cilantro and thin sliced beef. I have had this dish many… many times, it is my death row/​last meal request and I try it wherever I can. Suffice it to say this dish had a lot to live up to and it tried. The dish was spiced well and left that great tingle in my mouth and water in my eyes but overall was not game changing in the least. The most unique part was the amount of fresh red bell peppers that I thought were a good addition to the overall dish.
Water Closets — 1/​Single
The small single restroom was located adjacent to the counter and was clean but lacked any special features or upgraded fixtures.

The spot is has the words «to go» in the name… I was not expecting an amazing experience and I didn’t receive one. I was expecting a quick meal that filled me up and tasted good… I got all that. If you are in need of a quick bite and want to get some real food (yes I’m looking at you Burger King) stop by here… keep it in perspective and you won’t be disappointed.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant to go to when I’m in the Largo, St. Pete area. The title of their restaurant is Togo, but they also serve your every need if you decide to dine-​in. I love to dine-​in because with your order, they bring out complimentary appetizer of a fried spring roll and soup. It is so cute, I wish more Thai restaurants (or even any Asian restaurant) would incorporate that concept! The owners/​workers there are really nice and they are very helpful with giving suggestions on what to order from the menu.
My fave things to order here are the Pad Thai with shrimp, ALL of their curry dishes, and their fried rice. Their Pad Thai is soooo good! It has a true authentic Thai taste to it. Their shrimps are plump and not those little-​wee shrimps. I LOVE IT! When I’m craving something with a coconut flavor, then I get the Green Curry. When I want something more spicy, I get the Red Curry. When ordering fried rice, I always choose the chicken option. You can choose the level of spiciness for any of the dishes here. The prices are great, especially during lunch.
The service here is excellent, they are always so friendly and «smiley» :). I am glad I found this place.

GLUTEN FREE options!!!
We went here based on reviews written under its former name. The place is a little hole in the wall BUT DON’T LET THAT FOOL YOU! It was so good! We are all Gluten free and they did a great job of making the food to fit our dietary needs. I am very impressed by their attitude and care. And the taste was amazing you could tell the vegetables are fresh and the food is made to order. We will definitely come here again. I can’t wait to try some of the other dishes.
