Iron Site is a pleasure to do business with. They are knowledgeable, honest and friendly. I highly recommend talking with Colin if you are interested in getting a permit or just becoming more educated about your rights and of course what guns will fit your needs. Bob is the best onsite gunsmith with integrity around. From customization to repair he is always very informative and makes sure the job is done properly. I have referred a lot of people to Iron Site and their feedback is always positive and thankful.

I have a Remington 870 shotgun with an aluminum rail that blew apart on me 1 week before I had my Father coming in town and we were planning to go and shoot it. I brought it in and told Bob my situation and he dropped everything he was doing and took it apart to see what was needed. In less than a half hour we had found a rail online and had it ordered. Bob even worked on the holiday(thanksgiving) to get everything finished. To make a long story short, I had my shotgun cleaned and assembled in time to go shooting as planned. I’ve since put about 200 slugs through it with no problems whatsoever. Great work and great customer service.

Went to the gun smith to get some work done on a Mauser. I needed a new firing pin and for him to drill and tap the receiver for a scope mount. Getting the gun back everything LOOKED fine but firing it showed me the serious head space issue he ignored when he «test fired» the weapon. So after spending over two hundred dollars I got back a gun that could literally explode on me.

I’ve been to Iron Site many times. I have a large collection of guns, both rifles and pistols, everything from 1911’s and Winchesters, to MSRs and Glocks. The reason that I even found Iron Site, is that I had asked another shop two towns over to do a simple job of removing a muzzle brake from one of my AK74s and replacing it with another. That company not only took forever(2 months) to do the job, but they screwed up the finish on my barrel as well and charged a ridiculous fee to do so. I had work I wanted done on some of my other rifles, so I began looking for another shop in the area. So, the first rifle I brought in was an AR that needed a gas block mounted. Bob did a great job, mounting the gas block and free float rail. I then asked Bob to do some custom work on my Winchester, after seeing some examples and discussing what I wanted him to do. Bob completed the work, and went above and beyond what I had asked him to do, yet charged me very little compared to what I would have paid elsewhere. Bob always discusses the options of what needs to be done, before I commit to them, and he always tells me what the right way to do something is. Bob is very knowledgeable and will share all of is experience on one platform or another with you. He has surprised me with his knowledge many times, when I have brought something in, and he is discussing the idiosyncrasies of some particularly obscure firearm that another customer has brought in. Bob is also one of the best bluers around. I have seen him bring forth a beautiful Smith and Wesson revolver from a piece of rusted junk. I am not sure how he does it, but I don’t know of anyone else around that could do it this well. I think that it would be extremely difficult to beat the customer service and prices at this shop, elsewhere.

I went to Iron Sites and asked the«gunsmith» if he could help me out and make a bayonet lug for my Yugo AK47. He said he could and that he had done a lot of work on many guns. He told me the price would be $ 45. I dropped it off on a Saturday and he said he would get to it the next week. On Friday of the next week I hadn’t heard anything yet so I decided to call and check the status of the work. He said he was doing research and would finish it either that day or the following day. I dropped by the shop on Saturday and the gun was still in the vice and he said he was done. When I saw it I was in shock. He did not protect the bottom of the gas block from weld splatter and the actual lug he had welded on looked like a piece of ground metal. I didn’t say anything at that time figuring that I could bring it home and fix what he had done. I was wrong. On closer inspection I saw that there were big holes in the weld that he did and the gas block had indentations from the weld splatter. I also noticed that there were indentations on the wooden stock(which I had take great care in refinishing) from where the gun had been in the vice. When I affixed the bayonet at home it did not seat as far back as it should have and when I pushed the button in on the bayonet to try to see if it would move back any further(and I did this gently) the lug he welded on snapped right off. The shop is closed today, Sunday, but I am going to go back and tell him I want my money back. I would NOT trust him to try to fix it as he has already damaged my gun. Do NOT go to Iron Sites Gun Shop. Especially if you are going there for any gunsmithing. This guy is a butcher.

Sometimes you make a wrong turn or goof something up. It is your fault and you know it. But you still want a repair with good customer service at a fair price. I did not get a satisfactory quote from the manufacturer so I was at a loss. That is what I got when I went to Iron Site Gunsmith Shop. From the moment I walked through the door I felt welcome. The entrance to the gunsmith side of this business had a lengthwise counter with work benches along the walls. The place was definitely a workshop. I was immediately greeted and welcomed. They did not come to the counter as a customer instead they invited me to come around and take a chair with them. Eagerly they asked what they could do to help me and I explained my issue explaining that I did not have my firearm with me. They informed they were open until 6:00 pm and most likely could be found there after that. They quoted me a shop fee explaining that it was the starting point but they would work within my budget and be fair with me. It seemed fair so I made arrangements to return that evening. I came back before they closed and noted the customer who was there before provided a demonstration of how they treat customers. It was almost like watching two friends do business where neither one wanted to over extend a burden to the other, either financial or too much work. It was watching customer service at its best. When it was my turn he explained what he was going to do laying out the fact that it may take him some research but he would do his best. I asked about how long and if it would be a week or two. He indicated that could be a possibility. I was surprised when I got a call two days after dropping it off explaining that it was ready to be picked up and that it had been tested. True to our agreement he stayed within my budget amount. I showed up to pick it up where he gave me full details and explanation of what he had done even providing the empty cartridges used during the testing. I was further impressed when after asking a question he took it back apart demonstrating to me the internal workings and making adjustments as he went. One comment that was made that sums up my experience was he said he really did not consider himself a gunsmith but a gun enthusiast. This told me that heart and soul was in his work and his business. It showed and it was appreciated.
