This review is after two visits about ten months apart. The first visit was in June of 2015 while the main road in front was under major construction. Although business was light, the experience was still favorable. This was a birthday lunch and everyone had fish and chips and calamari for an appetizer. Fish was cooked perfectly with generous portions and none of the typical grease from frying. The calamari was entirely different from calamari we’ve had at other restaurants. Don’t get me wrong, the combination of flavors from peppers, light cheese and capers was exceptional and the main reason for returning. Our last experience was less than stellar. Ordering the same foods plus their grouper fish tacos this time. The fish and chips were greasy this time around although my tacos were very good. The service really made the visit not worth the half hour drive to get there. The staff seemed preoccupied with something or perhaps understaffed. Our waitress appeared to have worked there for a long time but was extremely slow and apparently not familiar with what’s on the menu. She was also preoccupied with another table where there were patrons she already knew. Bad mistake when you’re trying to earn tips. All-in-all, the food is great when it’s great and fair when it’s not, so a 3-star for food due to inconsistency. Service was poor. Granted stuff happens, but you apologize to the customer, you don’t leave them hanging. So, 1-star for service. It would be two, but this place has been around a long time and should know better. Price? Well, for what’s being served, prices averaged 25% higher than most family restaurants serving the same dishes. I give them 2-star on prices considering all other factors in. No sense paying big prices for lackluster service and inconsistent food. Recommend? Yes, I would recommend that you try it once.

We came to this restaurant for lunch. It really has a family feel to it. We sat at the bar that was more like a very long table. It was a lowered bar that used chairs instead of barstools. Our bartender/waitress was very nice and knowledgable about the menu items. I had the salmon with a side of spaghetti– I was expecting a small bowl of spaghetti but it was a decent size. There were people sitting around us with their kids laughing and chatting. I’d definitely come here again.

So disappointed! Used to eat here years ago but moved out of the area. I revisited tonight with much disappointment. Menu doesn’t match what is online, craft beers served in cans, and that wonderful orchard salad in no longer wonderful! Chicken tasted & looked like it was cooked two days ago? The rest — a ton of lettuce. Greasy appetizers as well! Hate to dish on businesses but it really deserved honesty! or they can’t fixed the problems!

Well we went back tonight, the waitress was great, kept on top of what we needed. The seafood ravioli was awesome. My hubby had a BBQ special with ribs, chicken and sausage and said it was good also filled him up.

Average food, regular bar/restaurant atmosphere, a little too overpriced for the offerings. Breadsticks are great!

I would like to give them a higher review, but there are some flaws. The food was good, my burger was a little over charred(burnt), my fiancé’s mac n chees was very good but the chicken was not. Very very good breadsticks!!! Well kept, good service, not too expensive and we will go again. I hope to have a slightly better main dish experience. Give them a try, I think they are a great restraint that ma have had an off night.

Decent place, a bit pricey for what they serve. We generally stick to the salads I believe them to be the best in the area. Service has varied from time to time but overall has been decent.

First time at E G Nicks and it will be the last. We drove by and turned around because the marquee stated it had craft beers. Naturally we thought«on tap». Not the case, all the craft beers were in bottles. Strike one. Next we ordered from the specials menu. The item we wanted, they were out. So we ordered the calamari instead. Big mistake, it was swimming in pepperconis, over powering the taste of everything. The bartender kindly took the item off our bill. The rest of our meal was medicore at best, gravy from a can, the chicken so dry it was stringy, over cooked to almost burnt puff pastry, string beans straight from a can. What a dismal way to spend $ 50.00. I’d rather eat in a dive with good food then a pretty restaurant that serves this fare. I’m giving the rating a 2 star as opposed to a 1 just because the staff and atmosphere were pleasant and the bread sticks were really good.

Good experience, great bread, just like everyone said. Burger was good, ribs were delicious and the service was outstanding. We arrived a little later than the rest of the group, and our server folded us in the mix without missing a beat. Good view of all the TV’s if your a sports fan. Bathrooms very clean and modern. Booth are big and roomy. We’ll go back again.

We had the«pleasure» of eating here for my husbands birthday… last year! We have never went back because in my meal there was a 4 inch long piece of black hair, did I mention I had the creamy shrimp Alfredo and when I pulled it out my husband and two sons all last their appetite completely. They only took off the price of my meal in my opinion they should have ate the cost of the 40 dollar meal. They did not, I didn’t want to upset my husband so I let it go and called the manager the next day she was very rude and told me she didn’t know where the hair came from because the cooks have short, I explained my hair is short it didn’t matter to her. Horrible service the name alone makes me want to vomit. Hope the money was worth losing customers. F.Y.I our waitress had long black hair!

Here’s the thing: E.G. Nicks is one of the nicest places around that isn’t a chain restaurant. Yes, the menu is a little out-dated. The wine list is okay. Ditto for beers. But! The food is usually satisfactory. The portions are generous. I never feel like I’ve been cheated out of a good meal. The service is okay. I’ve never been blown away by my servers there, but I’ve never been significantly disappointed. All around, it’s a good place.

Do NOTEVERGETTAKEOUTFROMHERE… EVER! The hostess(order taker) has no idea what’s going on. I was given the wrong items and I checked upon pick up, charged for items I never received, never given the respect of talking to a manager. Told«I’m sorry» for the waste of my time and giving them money for items never received. Disgusting to be treated like that! Don’t waste your time or money

Time to update the menu– menu is very outdated. Nothing exciting For over 6 months on their website it doesn’t have a menu and says new menu coming soon… Where is it? I don’t know how they stay open honestly it is never busy. Waitresses are very catty and always seem to be standing around gossiping. Soup«specials» are always the same, minestrone. Time for an update PLEASE.

Like all Lapeer restaurants this place is nothing to write home about,(wait, I think I am doing just that). Grimy silverware, but really nasty bathrooms. Service is the typical Lapeer lackadaisical quality. My big complaint is that we came here with a group with reservations and still was seated in front of the fire exit. My seat was actually against the door. Good luck if there was a fire. I have to guess that they do this quite often.

Food was great but the service was Horrendous! If they can fix they would a gem! We had a party of 5, and let one of us sit at different table for 10 minutes even though we all gave them the same reservation! Unacceptable! Our server was at our table twice and never asked if we needed drink refills, one being right after they put our food in front of us. Don’t they make most of their money on the drinks? Unacceptable! I watched them seat 3 tables and THEN wiped them down! Unacceptable! We did not see a server for periods of any where from 5 to 10 minutes sometimes! Unacceptable! Basically, it appeared as if the staff was not properly trained at all. Shame on the management! Unacceptable! We did complain and they did compensate, but I would much rather have a fun night out with the girls and my drink never run dry!

E G Nick’s is amazing. It’s the finest restaurant in good ol’ Lapeer. The service is wonderful. They’re always cheerful, and won’t hate you if you ask them 1,000 things to do. This is one place I would tip high, because they deserve it. Now on to the good stuff. They’re bread stick are superb. The Greek salad is always a must there. Always. It’s worth the dollar to upgrade if feta is your thing. Pasta dishes are amazing. And I love the 8 dollar burger special going on. For 8 bucks you get to choose from a handful of unusual burgers, coleslaw, fries and your drink for 8 dollars! I like the Greek and pretzel myself. Steaks are always good too. They serve Pepsi products, which is cool of you’re a Dew drinker. Not a lot of places in Lapeer are Pepsi people. There is a nice bar off to the back. Separated by a fireplace that is nice in the winter. But, the bar is out of the way, so the people who are there to get drunk, have their own space, and the people eating dinner won’t be bothered by them. Bathrooms are iffy. There are good days and bad days. But the bad days aren’t as bad as others. Their sinks are really nifty. I admit I have to go wash my hands in them every time I go there. Curb side is nice. Fast, and they rarely forget things, and the food is not half ass-ed. During dinner time, 5:30 to say 8. They can get packed. If you go around 4:30 — 5:00 ish the place empty. If you go around dinner time, be prepare to wait a while, but it is soo worth it! Music is always current and nice, too.

There are many good things about this place but number one on my list: BREADSTICKS. Wow is all I can say– hot from the oven there is nothing better, in fact I could eat it as an entire meal and be happy. Considering how small a town Lapeer is I was really surprised to find such a wonderful restaurant. The food is all exceptional, ribs, potatoes, chicken, salads– you name it and it’s great. While living in town I ate at only two restaurants regularly and this was one of them. Most places the menu is hit or miss but I would guarantee that anything you order will be at the very least darn tasty. There is a bar in it but it is separated from the restaurant section so you don’t notice it. They keep the lights low and all the tables and small things like sconces are very minimal and very nice looking. The take out orders are very fast and super convenient– the longest I had to wait was a whole 2 minutes once because they forgot my bread sticks and the waitress noticed when she double checked the order before handing it to me.
