One of Lansing’s Première dance clubs, Spiral has been around for generations. Despite the sometimes younger(20’s-40’s) clientele that keep this local favorite open, the aging bar manager is quite a character. Always witty, hip, upbeat and willing to share a story with a patron, he keeps an efficient top notch staff. Every bartender has his or her own signature personality that adds flair to your experience. From Sunday night Drag shows to Rocky Horror Picture casts, college nights, fetish parties and New Year’s Eve balls they will always keep you wanting to come back for something new and refreshing. Variety confined by laser lights, a fish bowl dance floor complete with a DJ’s crows nest is an instant crowd pleaser. Gay bi or straight makes no difference here — there will always be something of interest to experience at Spiral for everyone. Come check out the propane flaming fire pit on the patio where smokers may congregate for a few puffs of socializing.

The facility is nice. Without that, I feel Spiral would be a dump. I’ve gone there probably 5 or more times and most of the time it was dead. On one occasion cover was $ 15! For a club in Michigan, that’s ridiculous. The bartender served us drinks with about 90% of it being cranberry juice. When I asked her if she could make it again, she said she would have to charge me. Bartenders here suck. Unless it’s a college night, go to Ann Arbor.

I came here a few times and had great service. The drinks were good(especially the grape ape shooters). The shows are great, the dance floor is fun. The only thing I have is that whenever I’m there, there’s always a couple making out and being appropriate in the corner and nobody is doing anything about it. But that’s a club for ya!

Despite being straight, as soon as I was old enough, I started going to Spiral. Way back then in the early 2000’s, it was hand’s down the best option in mid-Michigan to hear great dance music and drink amazing cocktails and, honestly, I think it still is. I have since moved out of state but happened to re-visit Spiral while in town last month. It had been YEARS since I set foot in the place but it was just as great as ever: The bartender(I wish I could remember her name) mixed us excellent cocktails, the music was great, the crowd was chill and me and my friends got a little dancing in for old time’s sake. When we first got there it was a little quiet but after midnight it really got bumping. Overall we had a great time and look forward to returning!

Seriously a fun time! I went out with a group of girls after hitting a couple bars earlier in the evening and we were looking for a great dance spot. Spiral did not disappoint!!! The bartenders were great and the music was exactly what we were looking for! We all had a blast!

I was really excited to take a group of out of town friends here. We showed up at 1am on a Saturday, but cover was 10 dollars… is it always this way? The crowd was steadying out and some people were leaving, definitely no one else trying to get in at the time. With an hour left to the night, we decided no. Maybe another time I’ll try it out and see how it has changed since a few years ago… curious. It looked fun from the outside anyway.

Spirals is a nice place to go out and dance with your friends. However, I don’t know if I could really even call it a gay bar. There were a lot of weird straight guys there constantly harassing women. Overall the bar has good music and strong delicious drinks. They also have a nice lounge area if you’d rather not dance and would prefer to just hang out and talk with your friends.

I went to Spiral back when they first opened. Way to date myself. My best friend in college had a gay roomate, so we frequented many gay clubs… plus, we used to like to get our dance on! This place was pretty swanky for a college kid… velvet couches with velvet curtains, allowing for privacy… cool brushed metal all over with sprial cut outs… fancy lights on the dance floor. Everyone can feel comfortable here, as mentioned in other reviews. It was the only place that actually played dance/house music in the day as well.

Some of the most tired drag I’ve seen in some time. However, they were having fun with it. I would return.

Best, and really the only actual, dance scene/club in Lansing/East Lansing. The DJs here know what’s in and when to play it, every thing is mixed up fabulously including the drinks, every one is there to dance the night away and look sexy doing it. Spiral is a gay bar, yes, but unless you’re really paying attention to the random make out sessions in the bathrooms(avoid) or outside, you’d probably never know it. Spiral also boasts plenty of themed nights and parties, which is a personal favorite of mine. If you want to count on having a blast, getting sweaty, and dancing your ass of to tunes that never disappoint you need to find yourself in the middle of Spiral’s dance floor.

Stiff drinks from the correct bar tender, but if you’re a homophobe this would not be your place. Drag queens, queens, teens, and screaming girls surrounded by a college crowd. It has great dance music sometimes and a great atmosphere. The drink prices are probably the best value in Old Town. Not too cheap but not a complete steal like the HAREM.

Spiral’s pretty chill. Cover, but meh. Who cares? It’s one of all of, what, 2 gay bars in Lansing? Stiff drinks, decent atmosphere, and good music. Great dance bar. Spiral is a good mark on Old Town, even though throughout my years at Lansing Eastern High School all I heard from locals was about how«rowdy» the crowd is when they leave. As if. Spiral’s a damn good time. Lansing needs more dance bars, and it’s an awesome spot on Old Town. My straight friends love going there when I’m in town: it’s always a fun event.

My coworker and I stopped by this place on a saturday night. Maybe we were there too early? But music was playing and there were some people but the place was pretty much dead. No one on the dance floor. We got bored and left. My companion swore that it’s usually hoppin. uh huh. Oh yeah it’s a gay club btw. Total snoozefest.

if you have nothing to do on a Sunday, I suggest heading down to Lansing to hit up spiral for a plethora of $ 4 martini’s that will make you say, «mona la la la la, my blood’s bubblin’ like lava.» My personal fave is the One Hott Number which essentially is a bloody mary martini. I salivate just thinking about it. the boys behind the bar have got it going on. the drinks that make are as stiff as… well, you get the point. perhaps its a drink til he’s cute attitude with amateur drag night going in full swing by 11. Actually, the queens here are some saucy lil ladies with bods that i would KILL for. the ambiance is that of a somewhat swanky metropolitan club with red drapery strewn throughout, and cast iron swirls on the bar stools and high tables. jello shots are a dollar and boy are they worth that dollar. more often than not they will make you pucker just a little. and as Kristen G. mentioned, this is not only a gay club. In fact, when I frequent this saucy joint about half of the gents I roll with are straight. all in all, everybody wins. just make sure you get a DD if you plan on drinking.

Even though this is a gay club, it’s not just for the Queens. Stop in Sunday and Wednesday nights for the best drag show around, men in heels is always a good time. The bar tenders can occasionally be found in tighty-whiteys…or shiny blue boy shorts. On Sundays drop by to enjoy half off martinis, of which the list goes on and on. I myself enjoy the Twisted Stripper and the One Hot Number [cock and balls included…]. Don’t be surprised to find men in the womens bathroom, ladies. Don’t worry, they want none of you. When you order your drinks, you can be sure you aren’t being shorted for your money. These boys will give you a stiffy, no pun intended. If the drag show doesn’t keep your attention, the crazy music videos will. While the speakers play techno dance versions of Justin and Nelly Furtado, the tv’s show the best dance videos of the 90’s in Sweden… This is a place where the hips don’t lie.
