I searched for a good place to have ice-cream in Langley and South Whidbey Commons showed up. I was a little disappointed that the ice cream wasn’t local but a great project overall.

This is a love letter to The Commons. I’m so happy with your everything. Today I had a latte and some strawberry cheesecake ice cream. It was lovely. Last week I had a chai and a scone. Those were lovely, too. Each time I visit you I am happy. The people who work there are always happy. My only wish is that you’ll expand your hours so I can hang out there at night sometimes. That would make me even happier.

A comfortable bookish nook for afternoon coffee and tea, and a nice way to feel connected to the community. Often staffed by volunteers there’s an easygoing pace. Sometimes there are school study groups in a side room. There’s a variety of baked treats and ice cream! They can do an affogato here. For the non-dairy there are alternative milks for coffee and chai.

Taking into account that teens are in training to use the equipment and learn to serve, this place does a pretty good. Sometimes you have to repeat your order or ask for a change if you’ve gotten the wrong item, but it’s a small price to pay for helping youth learn much needed skills. Holla community nonprofits with icecream! I love their outdoor seating, too. And the wifi is fast. If you want a quiet place to work, this may not be the best place for you, as sometimes families with kids come in to eat or groups of teens will commandeer a corner. Worth a visit.

When you visit the commons, whether for a book reading, open mic night, neighborhood meet-n-greet or just a cup of joe, one thing is obvious: this is a labor of love. So many people have volunteered their time, energy and talents into making it a special place, and it shows. I’ve watched it blossom from a hole in the wall with a cash register into a multi-functional and multi-compartmented space. I can’t believe all they’ve done with it. This is more than just a coffee shop. The landscaping outside is a shade of breathtaking. All that on top of being a nonprofit organization? This is a major win for the community.

I went there the other day for breakfast. I got a breakfast bagel and coffee, both of which were good. However, I then followed this up with a brad muffin which they charged me $ 3.50 for. Wow, I guess it had gold flakes in it or something. So okay coffee place, but their pricing is darn wacky. Also, while I was there the WiFi wasn’t working, which takes away some of the reason to go there.

My favorite place in Langley so far! I just love everything: the locale, the unusual mix of events and people, the books — — and the delightful corn quesadilla I had, where I had the option of adding just a little of this, and a little of that… and suddenly — Heaven. What a sweet space. I even came in with a tall stalk of hollyhock which made a little mess. The great staff came smiling, not the least bit concerned.

Great little coffee house. Good coffee and lots of books to browse and read. They are staffed entirely by volunteer students who gain valuable work experience. Nice relaxing atmosphere, free wifi and friendly staff. I wish this place was near my house.

This is a wonderful non-profit organization run by youth and educational program. In another words, this place trains high school students with job-training experiences! Also this place makes yummy organic lattes! =)
