Shady. I have lived out in the Antelope Valley for 9 years. I have had multiple vehicles smogged at various businesses throughout the years. I took a chance on West Side Smog because he quoted me $ 38 for my truck. I showed up, he spent 3 minutes to do the test and then said it didn’t pass because it didn’t have history in the vehicle’s system. He charged me $ 30 and said that I had to drive my vehicle for 60 miles(one hour) on the freeway and come back and pay another $ 35. Shady, Shady, Shady. He then asked if I had reset the codes or replaced my battery recently. I told him that I had to put a new battery in a couple of weeks ago and he then said that was probably the problem. WHY would this not be a question they ask PRIOR to running the 3 minute test??? When I asked this question, he proceeded to state that it was my problem and continued to state that he has been doing this for 10 years. If that is the case, and he has the knowledge that something as simple as changing out the battery(which fails in most cars every 3 – 5 years), then why is «have you changed your battery recently» not a question they ask PRIOR to the test??? I’ll tell you why… it is because he runs a shady business that would rather not be upfront about common issues and try to turn a $ 38 smog test into a $ 65 transaction. He has no interest in becoming a reputable business that earns repeat business and would rather take advantage of a consumers lack of information on what the test requires. Avoid this business and go somewhere with some ethics. I recommend you take the extra 3 minutes to drive by this guy and tell him why you are NOT using his establishment in-order to save those that do not hear/read this warning.
