Great place. Amazing view. A bit hard to find. Make a turn on George Washington road and keep driving until you see the parking lot. It’s small, fits 8 – 10 cars. Then walk on the path until a left turn(not where the big rock is), next turn. Bring picnic food and water.

What an incredible view of the Delaware River from the same overlook that Washington and Cornwallis used to keep track of this same river at different times during the revolution. The approach to Goat Hill Overlook is not very well signed, so you are likely to think that you are on the wrong road. However, if you persevere and follow your GPS, you will be rewarded with a sign announcing you have arrived. There is a partially overgrown parking area and then you are off on an approximately 15 minute uphill walk along a road that looks like it might have been paved, but has deteriorated into more of a half car width gravel trail. At the top of the hill, the vegetation starts getting sparser and the — BAM — the overlook and an expansive view of New Hope and the Delaware River opens up ahead of you. We saw a couple at the top enjoying a romantic picnic at one of the two tables — complete with basket, cheese board, and wine glasses. If you are looking for a cool romantic evening with that special lady in your life on a warm summer evening — I guarantee that a picnic at Goat Hill will deliver! Even if the tables are occupied, there is plenty of room to just spread out a blanket. On the way back down, there is a side trail that takes you out to a rock that is another cool place to take pictures, but don’t get too close to the edge. Especially if you are visiting Washington Crossing State Park, this is an interesting side trip about 15 minutes away that adds some additional context and beautiful views to your trip. I supposed you could make a side trip from a bike ride along the D&R canal, but it would add quite a bit of difficulty — better done in a car.

My wife and I took our 3-month old son to Goat Hill Overlook for our first hike with him. She put him in a carrier and since it’s only about half a mile from the parking lot to the top the mile round trip hike was very easy and manageable. The view from the top is pretty amazing. I didn’t realize you could get that high of a vantage point in this area of New Jersey. You have an amazing view of Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA from the top.
