This store is always one of my favorites whether I am just stopping in to grab a bottle of water or for a sundae. The staff is always friendly and tonight they went over the top. I just stopped in to grab a couple things and as I was leaving they offered me a sundae on the house. It was accidentally made but it was such a friendly gesture to offer it to me for no reason rather than throwing it in the trash. Thanks udf staff for always being the friendliest in Lakewood!

The four stars is mostly for the ice cream. If you are old, like me, and grew up in this area, like me, you probably remember the Ben Franklin’s ice cream shops. They are long gone out of business, but the same ice cream they used to sell is now sold by United Dairy Farmers here. And it’s still really good, too! Aside from that, it’s nice that Lakewood still has a couple of convenience stores that haven’t morphed into alcohol carry-outs. This one has the added bonus of not having gas pumps out front, which probably is an economic minus for the store but reduces the traffic headache when you don’t want gas, just a quick loaf of bread. Or ice cream.

I feel I was a bit overly nice with my previous review. I mean, this is just a convenient store after all. The selection of items is still pretty great, but my default now instead of protein bars is to hit up their small fruit basket for a banana. I just wish they didn’t look so crappy all the time. Is it that hard to get fresh nanners? I’m also very picky and don’t like a lot of brown spots on mine. Haven’t tried the ice cream – still. BUT based on the amount of students who drop in there after school, I think I’ll avoid stopping here between 2:30 — 3:30PM.
