This place doesn’t look great on the outside but inside is pretty cozy. The food was good at reasonable price. The service was good but slow. I think when I went there was only one cook. Even then I had the beef stew soup with noodle and it was very flavorful. I didn’t like their spring rolls but my mom did. The portion size is reasonable. I would recommend this place if you’re looking for good beef stew and banh mi sandwiches.

This review is for a pork bahn mi to go. The service was friendly and efficient. I was comfortable while waiting and the food was done pretty quickly. As for the sandwich — it was the best bahn mi I’ve had so far in Tacoma. Truth be told it is also the first that I’ve had in Tacoma. It was good but I still think that the best ones to be had are in Seattle but I wouldn’t hesitate to swing by here and have another one. Other choices are chicken and Tofu.

The name is really confusing. their outdoor sign says Joy Phở but paint in the building says Phở PQ… either way. Their phở is really good. Deep and rich broth makes it a perfect phở. Plus is their waitress and the owner are funny and very chill.

One of my favorite phở place in the area. I am Thai and grew up in an area with lot of Thai, Laotian, and some Vietnamese people and it has its share of phở joints. I’m more used to Thai style phở, but the food here is pretty good and reminds me of home. The service is always great and the staff always amazing. I usually get the combination phở with a little bit of everything and a Thai tea. Their Thai tea is definitely up there on my list of places to get it even if it’s a little creamier than I’m used to. The atmosphere is very welcoming and cozy and the owner is hilarious. One of the best things is when you leave the owner doesn’t say bye, he says, «See you tomorrow!» or «We’ll see you at lunch tomorrow!»

I have eaten at so many different Vietnamese restaurants since moving to WA. My family and I have have been eating at this restaurant for over 2 years and going. Let me be the one to tell you if not most or all are not even owned/operated by Vietnamese. Best Vietnamese spot in town hands down. If you’re a foodie like I and in need of authentic Vietnamese cuisine then this is the place for you. Also The owner/Chef is an awesome dude his restaurant makes you feel right at home.

We are new to the area and missed a taste of home(Originally from southern California in the heart of Little Saigon, where all the great, authentic, viet food is at). Service was great, the hostess was friendly and gave us time to get settled in. The place itself was clean and cozy, I love the idea of the little bar right as you walk in so you can just sit down and eat — almost like a cozy diner. The food was pretty good too, we had crab wontons, #1(phở tai) and a #7(phở dac biet). The broth tastes a little different from home but still satisfied my craving. The place is actually a fusion of viet, thai and I believe Chinese? So I didn’t expect it to taste the same. All in all a cute, cozy place with great service and food. Oh! It’s Phở PQ but the big sign says Phở Joy! So don’t pass it like we did!

First time eating here and the food is amazing! I ordered the #8, seafood phở, and everything was cooked to perfection! Service was very quick and efficient. Definitely recommend this place again.

Very salty broth, very sub par and lean on veggies. I ordered a veggie phở in chicken broth and they gave me chicken phở with barely any veggies. When I called they were very defensive about the order and didn’t make effort to rectify and make me a happy customer. I won’t be ordering from here again. Go to long beach instead; better quality and better customer service!!!

The food was good ad price is great. But service is kinda slow, the poor girl was doing everything by herself so she was running all over the place, she was nice and attentive in the busy day sha had.

I’m scared to write the review after reading what happens to Ashley, but I write it anyways because leaving a review is also a way for business improves itself. The phở is not great as the other reviews saying. I don’t know what they are talking about or I just come in an off day but it was bad. I got a regular bowl with everything and the server brought me a really traditional small bowl. The meat was sliced so thin that I can’t taste the meat in itself. My noodle was hard, like it had been in the refrigerator for month or he just didn’t do it the right way. When I used the chopstick to grap the noodle, it looked so dry and also broke down too. They also include fried onion in my phở, and for me, authentic phở don’t have fried onion. I come from a background where I have phở my whole life. Born in Viet Nam and eat phở from the middle, the south and the north of Viet Nam. I have to agree phở in US is much different with phở in Viet Nam but I never eat phở with dried onion at all(and yes I have been eating phở in US for more than 8 years so I know what I’m talking about). My husband got pad thai and he liked it, but I didn’t. I’m just one picky eater since I love cooking and I love food, so I can’t stand bad taste. And also I come from an Asia background so I may just expect more than what this store offers … I just won’t come back again. The server was nice though. And also they don’t have AC or something, it was so hot when I came in the last time.

Great Service very friendly and personable host/waiter. I had number 11 spicy beef phở, my wife had the chicken stir fry, both were superb. Out the door for under $ 20 we’re satisfied and coming back.

My first experience with Phở. Our waiter jokingly offered us the only table with leftover dishes from the last customers. I liked him immediately. At his suggestion I tried the #7 which had beef broth, beef, meatballs and tripe. It was delicious. The helpings were generous. Our waiter told us, «see you tomorrow,» as we left. I will definitely revisit this place!

This is our go-to for Phở. I always get the chicken and my husband gets the hot and spicy. I love their broth. It’s so yum. We always get ours to go and they send us with plenty of veggies and stuff. I would recommend it to anyone. They are always super nice when we go in, too.

Food is out of this world. Customer service is phenomenal. The owner/chef is dedicated and takes pride in everyone of his dishes not to mention just an all around good guy. Place is a bit rough on the outside but every gem needs to be polished right?

Just another update since the last update. And it is very likely that this will be the last time I will ever have to speak of this place, as I see no benefit to me to prolong such a conversation. But take it for what it is… I, yet again, received another message from the same account(the same one that messaged me the first time calling me disrespectful for my opinion on the phở). But this time, I was left confused, bewildered, dumbfounded(lets just throw the entire list of synonym for«confused» here). The person who wrote the second message introduced himself as the owner of Phở PQ. So… I have to question myself. Does the account belong to this«a regular customer» person or does it belong to the owner Phuong? Or are they sharing the same account? Or has it been the same person all along? Message I received from the same account as the first time: «Than V. Tacoma, WA 00 4 hours ago Block User Hi, One of my customer bought to my attention regarding reviews online. I’ve just read your review online. My name is Phuong and I am the owner of Phở PQ. I apologize but I can’t control what other customers are saying and everyone is entitled to his/her opinions. As for „this person that messaged you“, I assure you ITISNOTMENORMYKNOWNFRIENDSNORFAMILY. I don’t have to hide my identity. I came from a family of successful doctors and engineers so we are proud of who we are. If I have something to say to anyone, I will be like you, I WILLSAYITTOTHEMINFRONTOFTHEIRFACE. I am sorry that you don’t like our cooking but you are entitled to your opinion that is what American founding fathers fought for. FREEDOMOFSPEECH. I wish Unilocal allowed me to answer to people publicly but they don’t. I even posted a letter addressed to my customers concerning all the issues at my store but somehow it even appears on Unilocal posted by someone else. I am sorry that my customer contacted you. V/R Phuong» What I find this situation to be is childish and extremely unprofessional for a business. I understand no one likes criticism when they believe their performance is up to par. But when you take that criticism to heart and get butt hurt over it, to the point you need to personally message a reviewer pretending to be a different person, then backtracking to say that you are the owner… well, you made yourself look like quite the fool. So please ask yourself before you bombard another person’s personal experience with your establishment, WHATCAN I DOTOMAKEIT A BETTEREXPERIENCE? HOWCAN I IMPROVEMYESTABLISHMENT? Because any smart person would use any criticism they receive to improve their business and to gain repeated customers. This was not the case, unfortunately. And I am quite amused that it had come to this point where I’d have to leave such a review. So word of the wise: REVIEWATYOUROWNRISK. Or not review at all to save yourself the trouble of having to read and reply back to nonsense. Unless, you want to and enjoy it. Then you do you, my friend.

The phở is good but not enough to bring me back. It’s a rather depressing, dilapidated environment. And it’s really uncomfortable to to hear the chef talking about shooting someone in the face repeatedly, loudly enough for the entire dining area to hear(especially the two kids that were nearby). Yikes. The waiter was really nice though. He is the only reason this place got three stars.

Look, it’s Phở… but these guys get it! That’s 5 Phở stars… aka, as good as Phở gets! It looks a little beat up on the outside, but that’s where the best places are right? Trust me, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.
