Smallcakes: A Cupcakery

My wife, a dedicated fan of the cupcake, stumbled upon this place on our last trip to Lakeside Village. Two orders later we are hooked. We served them at two birthday parties and I can tell you with certainty that every single person will be stopping by this store for another one!

Definitely the best cupcakes I’ve ever had! There’s over a dozen choices to choose from and they have MILKSHAKES! That’s right, milkshakes! They take a WHOLE cupcake and blend it into a life changing experience you can’t get anywhere else!

Cupcakes are amazing yet the service was not with each cupcake being 4 bucks a pop I expect a more welcoming environment and better service.

Super cute place with an interesting selection. However, the cake itself is a bit on the flavorless and dry side… and, since they cost $ 4 a piece, you’re better off getting dessert elsewhere.

Went in after lunch on a Thursday afternoon (@ approx 1:30 PM Jan 15, 2015 to be exact) and the shop was completely empty. An apathetic teenager (or in her ealry twenties) glanced up at me and my friends and proceeded to walk to the swinging door that separates what I am assuming is the kitchen and the display area and she inserts herself in between it with her back facing us to proceed to carry on gossiping with a co-​worker in the back. I figured she must have been needing to say something to her coworker but would acknowledge us and help us shortly. Well, I was wrong. She carried on her conversation as if we weren’t even there. We looked and the selections and had made our choice and looked at her but she still made no effort to come help us. In a completely empty shop!!! I got irritated by this very poor customer service and slowly walked towards the door to leave to see if she would even bother to say «can I help you?» but she never did. She turned her head as we exited to see us go, I even looked her straight in the face and she still couldn’t be bothered to even acknowledge us and then she just turned back to continue carrying on her conversation she couldn’t be bothered to leave. I wish I could review the cupcakes but the complete lack of service made that impossible. She must have not been in the mood to work that day so she didn’t. Having employees like that will not help your business at all. The shop was empty, the cupcakes are nearly $ 4.00 a piece and then that’s the service given? I wouldn’t be surprised with the high rents in that shopping center like they are and service from employees like that if Smallcakes is non-​existent by next year.

I had the chocolate cupcake with peanut butter cream cheese icing. It was perfect. I’ve had cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes and this was better and definitely beat Sprinkles. At $ 4 it was more than the GC when I had them but it this one was slightly bigger.

Absolutely delicious cupcakes. I tried the cannoli cupcake and it was scrumptious! The cake part was moist and perfect and the icing was rich and creamy. I loved the mini cannoli topping! The décor is cute and welcoming. A fantastic addition to lakeside village!

Calling all cupcake lovers!!! This awesome «cupcakery» (the newest addition to my dessert vocab!) is a Lakeland landmark! Delicious, moist, and not to mention adorable cupcakes make this place a special treat! Perfect place to grab a quick sweet after dinner, movie, or a date! I had a Wedding Cake (rich almond white cupcake) and classic Red Velvet. Both were a win! The company was featured on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars! Prices were comparable to all other gourmet bakeries, about $ 4 each which was well worth it. It’s located in Lakeside Village so it’s a perfect place to stop by if you’re walking around to enjoy some time out on the town. No gluten free or vegan options just yet but totally worth a visit!
