Village Cafe

Was looking forward to breakfast but unfortunately after 25 minutes waiting for our food and the final straw, another table sat after us eating, walked out. Seriously, breakfast foods are not long ticket times. Absolutely ridiculous especially when the restaurant is not busy. Just poorly run restaurant all around. We have tried multiple times to support a local business but I think we are done here.

A solid place. They really have been nice to us while our kitchen remodel has been going on.

A little strip mall type place, but very good service and homestyle menu selections. Chopped steak with mushrooms, onions and mashed with gravy… yum for a cold winter night nosh.

Was pleasantly surprised. Great service, kind of a home cooking place with everything on the menu. Everything was very good but the French Onion Soup was probably some of the best you can get anywhere in town. Id come here just foe that.

The first time I had food from here it was take out that my roommate brought home for me and it was wonderful. The next couple of times we dined in and it was again very good — both the food and service.
Unfortunately the last two times we’ve been there the food was average at best and the service was very poor. The most recent time one of our orders was missing it’s fries — despite the server confirming that as a side when she took the order. They eventually came out *after* we had *all* finished our meal. Unless they were running over to Wal-​Mart to buy some Ore-​Ida fries, I’m really not sure how it took 20+ minutes to correct the missing fries. Should have been less than 5 tops. Getting our drinks refilled was an adventure as well.
Maybe these sound like trivial issues, but considering the bill came to nearly $ 60 before a tip I really felt we were entitled to better service especially considering they weren’t very busy. It’s a shame, as the first couple of visits were so good and now I’m not sure when or if we’ll be back.
The three stars was probably overly generous based upon the last two visits, but the first couple were so good I felt they averaged out to about that…

I have been going to this café since it opened. I am very disappointed to read some of the reviews here on Unilocal.I have NEVER had a bad meal here! The food has exceeded my expectations frequently, and when it hasn’t, it has still been very good. I have eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner items, and they have all been good. I love their French Onion Soup especially. We have needed a café in this area for a long time. I am very glad they are here!

They have the best pancakes. The food is moderately priced so it’s a fair value.

It is interesting the see the range of experiences reported on Unilocal.I have been to the Village Café for breakfast and lunch a couple of times (most recently breakfast this morning) and always found the food and service to be good.
Lake Saint Louis has needed a town café for a long time and this seems to fit the bill. The prices are inexpensive, and both the service and food I have experienced have been a good value. I hope that the people of LSL support the Village Café and assure its continued success.

4 thumbs down! I always try and support locally owned and operated restaurants. This one will be hard to support. Food was to salty. Nothing to WOW about. Server was new and slow, omelette over cooked. Hash browns had a old oil taste, and waffles were pre-​made and hard! Sorry to say we will not be back! So hard to find a good breakfast place that is not a chain!

We have eaten here several times and enjoyed it every time. Ang is a great waitress and gets your order to the table as soon as possible. Large portions made as you order so it might take a few extra minutes. It is nice they are able to accommodate senior groups and Red Hat Ladies, not too many places in the area that do that. The Reuben, open face pork sandwich, biscuits and gravy, meatloaf dinner, French onion soup and chicken noodle soup are all wonderful. Haven’t had a bad meal or experience there yet. Make sure if you are over 55 to ask for your Senior discount.

Had breakfast there yesterday and if we weren’t in a hurry we would have sent everything back. No problems with the service but the food tasted as if it had been prepared hours before and was just sitting under a warmer that wasn’t working. Every breakfast item was either barely warm or downright cold. Won’t be back.

This place is absolutely amazing! We were seated right away, and were checked in often! The service was awesome and fast! Definitely worth 5 stars! If you decide to come ask for Madelyn she is super sweet and a very good waiter!

Have been there only for breakfast and the really do not know how to cook eggs.
The eggs were all hard cooked or so runny you wouldn’t want to eat them.
Everything we asked for came out wrong.
Medium on the eggs came our hard white bread no toast or butter came out toasted with butter. One person sent their food back because it was wrong and they were going to charge her for it until they said something
It wasn’t the servers fault but the cooks.
I felt bad for the server
Plus the food is never hit just warm
So disappointed

Not what I wanted for Lake St.Louis.

Glad to have a non-​franchise spot in our area for breakfast. Visited for first time this morning for breakfast. Denver omelet was fantastic and hash browns were top shelf.

Here’s my take on the Village Café. This was our second visit, our first being on what may have been their opening week. I was going to add the restaurant to Unilocal but somehow, I just didn’t get it done. On our initial visit, the food was ok, the service was somewhat lacking. It wasn’t a terrible experience, but wasn’t helped by the table with a large number of misbehaving kids and parents and grandparents that either didn’t care or thought that they were just perfect anyway.
On our second visit, the servers that we had experienced previously were gone, in their place we’re servers that knew what they were doing and were obviously very experienced.
With regards to the second visit, the food was really great. I’ll admit, I’m difficult to please, my wife might say that some to I can be impossible to please. But in my defense, I travel extensively and as a result, probably eat out more than most, so I’m just prone to expect proper service. During this visit, Lolita was our server and she was absolutely fantastic! In fact, I can’t think of a single negative thing to say about the service! On our way out, I was chatting with a lady that was apparently the owner. We were discussing service after I complimented them on the fantastic service we had just experienced and she was very up front and told me that she had some real issues with the servers when they first opened but felt that the changes she had made had really made a difference. I told her that based on our experience from our first visit to the second, she definitely made the right moves.
We’ll certainly be back for another visit and I won’t have any reservations about the kind of service we’ll receive or the quality of food either.
Too many times new businesses fall prey to reviews entered by disgruntled employees or competitors. As a veteran Unilocaler, I always make a point of seeing how many reviews a Unilocaler has when they have an extremely negative review.

As with other locals we had hoped for a good local restaurant, but sadly disappointed. Nothing spectacular, service slow not inclined to give it a second chance.
Food was barely OK. How can anybody open a local restaurant and serve mediocre food?

I really wanted to like this place, but it really was not good. Found a hair cooked into my bacon, and another stuck to the side of my son’s glass! The food after it was re-​cooked tasted ok, but this place has to clean things up in order for me to eat there again.

We want to like this restaurant. Lake St Louis sorely needs a restaurant and we were super excited when Village Café opened. Sadly, after two visits we will not be back.
Our first visit — husband ordered breakfast and I ordered the pasta. Service was pretty slow. Tea came out with no ice. Breakfast ok. Pasta was hot with lots of cheese but little taste and overcooked. I also had the French Onion Soup. That was yummy.
Second visit the service was really bad. Was not the fault of the young waitress who mentioned she was brand new and had little experience. The manager was sitting on the other side of the room talking and laughing with friends or family members. I had the French ONion soup. Husband had the meatloaf and salad. I also had the meadloaf and baked potato. Salad came out after the dinner. Just a wet handful of iceburg lettuce on a plate. The meatloaf was ugly shade of gray — barely warm and the homemade gravy clearly a package mix. We sent back the meatloaf and could tell when it was returned the chef had just nuked it on the plate.
If you are looking for bland cafeteria style food served lukewarm and poor service this is what you will find.
The owners would be well advised to take their HUGE menu and pare it down to half-​a-​dozen well prepared entrees.
We give them less than a year

Save your time and money. You can just take food out of the freezer and «heat it up» yourself. My baked dish was so cold I could put my finger into the middle of it.
Unfortunately, I don’t think they will make it with poor food quality and service. It felt like my elementary school children were waiting on me. Here and then handing me the plate. Sorry, but you will have to make some serious changes if you plan to be around in 2015.
