Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Very small crowd but atmosphere was inviting. Good music selection playing overhead too. Order the calamari and sausage con carne. Both were delicious and portion size was just right. Service was quickly and friendly. Definitely will cone back when I visit again.

Worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Apparently, when you are early for a reservation it is impossible to be seated despite an empty restaurant. When finally allowed to sit, we were given a table in the desolate Asian side of restaurant.(Note the restaurant’s strange setup of Italian and Asian theme.) It took close to 1 hour before any staff even came to our table. Kids were starving as were adults. Eventually, we were handed menus and the employee walked away. No drink order or anything. Another half hour goes by and a waitress shows up. After some places orders we were told we had reached out«limit» of pizzas, which is half of the menu, because oven too small. So some in our party didn’t get to order what they preferred. Still no drink order by the way. After taking dinner order the employee, I use that name because waitress does not apply, had to be told that 4 yes 4 sodas would be needed. About 15 minutes later 2 not 4 arrived. We then had to ask for bread to be brought to table. After a lengthy wait the food began to arrive… sparingly, 2 plates at a time. One order was not correct after all that. Children’s meals were brought last, the opposite of what was requested. My daughter could not even eat hers because«it was the most disgusting pasta I’ve ever had» so she left hungry. After completion of meal and not seeing any staff for a period of time one in our party went on a quest in the now completely empty restaurant to find any employee for our bill. Ended up being about $ 18.50/head for pizza and water. Unfortunately, there was a gratuity built in. I have never felt the need to write a review before but this place was a disgrace.

What a great meal and service we had a Nicola’s! We took our junior women’s ice hockey team, coaches and a bunch of parents and had a great time. I made reservations for 25 of us earlier in the week. When we arrived, we had a semi-private space all set to go. We were greeted by the wife of the couple who own the restaurant. Very friendly. Our food was great! My Funghi Boscoco was delicious. My husband has the salmon special which he said was excellent. And to think I almost didn’t make our reservations here because of the negative reviews on Unilocal. The one suggestion would be a more extensive wine list. Highly recommend Nicola’s in Lake Placid!

WAY overpriced for what It is. Bland, basic, but not bad. Service mediocre. Won’t go back. Don’t recommend.

We dined here once last summer on the outdoor patio. We each ordered a salad and a pasta dish(carbonara for me, fettuccine alfredo for my partner). Both were average and served to us quickly. The portions were generous and plenty filling. It was a slow night(only us and one other couple appeared to be dining at this time) but the service was prompt and friendly throughout. The patio is not dog friendly, but they’ll allow you to tie up your furry friend on the fence so he/she can«supervise» your meal from a few feet away. Not a bad choice for a pasta or pizza, but given the other choices for dining in the area, probably would not be on the top of my list!

Not sure how a restaurant in a resort town stays in business when the front person scares away potential customers. Obnoxious guy greeting customers, and I have no idea how the food tastes because the asshat up front couldn’t have been nastier. Just curious how long it will take for the bank to foreclose on the business loan. Suggestion to owner: hire people who are good with customers. It may help. Would have left zero stars if possible.

Upon walking inside we realized the side that said Italian was Thai and vise verse. Strange and Confusing. The service was fair and the food was mediocre. The bread that arrived before the entrees was absolutely stale. The entrees weren’t terrible but I would stress very average.

Looking for a nice relaxing place to have lunch, saw a sign out front and went inside, very confusing, but once inside someone assisted us. We were seated and given menus. Once seated, I said to the friend I was dining with that our menu seemed quite pricey for lunch but we were already seated, hungry and didn’t want to leave. We ordered 2 appetizers and a pizza, cost us $ 39, which was fine except for the fact of what we observed… a table of 4 was seated next to us, given the same large menu by the same woman and then she immediately said to them, ‘oh, I am so sorry, I brought you the wrong menus, this is a dinner menu, you are here for lunch’ and came back with SMALLER sized menus and took the LARGE dinner menus. As we paid and left the restaurant we saw both menus sitting out front(one on top of the other, open at the hostess station. Honestly, how could the SAME hostess give us the wrong menu and not correct it and then did the same for another table and corrected. My friend and I had a look at the menu and everything we ordered was 2 – 3 dollars less on the lunch menu. I am disgusted, to be honest it seemed like a scam. I am appalled by the service, the food was sub-par for the price we paid and there were only 4 tables in the restaurant with the slowest service ever. BUT there were 3 restaurant workers and the hostess sitting in the bar area laughing and having a great time, maybe they should be working the floor. WILLNOT be going back and I frequent Lake Placid often but typically don’t go to Nicola’s Over Main but decided to give it a chance today. I’ll be going back to the pubs where the service and atmosphere is so much better and not shady.

Was in town for a company meeting. They made reservations at this place for 60 people. Restaurant had at least a week’s notice to host a group of 60 for a Fortune 500 company’s event. To our dismay, it took 2 hours of bad wine to get us through 6 pan size pizzas trickling in every 30 minutes, with no silverware for the 3 bowls of salad they provided. They brought over one antipasto salad and one calamari dish. They had a super small oven. Totally unprepared for us. The food was decent but the wait was unreal. If you are reading this I understand you must be thinking, it must have been because they were a large group. But think about it. If they had at least a week to prepare for us, imagine what they will accomplish for your meal.

I stopped by this restaurant on New Year’s Eve with my family for dinner. We have dined here several times over the last decade and were very happy with the food and service. My nephew and I had the Sausage Con Verde, my brother and niece and the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The food was great and our server, Dylan, was very attentive and pleasant. The prices were a little high, but not outrageous for this time of year. This restaurant has several large rooms and can handle large crowds. We also had no problem getting prompt seating. Nicolas is not a Pizza Hut or Mc Donald’s. You get what you pay for! If you like a little more upscale dining, this is the spot. That’s why we visit this place when traveling in the North Country. We like it and so would you. gk

Wish I could rate it less. Was late for our reservation time — our fault — however Im pretty sure the waitress wanted to fight me in the street over it. 10 years in the hospitality and food industry and I have never experienced, or been assaulted like we were here. Ok, we are late, we get it and we will leave — but oh no, this did not end that easily. It was completely astonishing. Went down the road to dancing bear where the 4 of us spent close to $ 1,000 easily and we tipped the servers, chef, and manager. Major loss for Nicola’s.

Location is great, service was great. But the food was underwhelming. Not horrible but it was not anywhere I would eat again. My food was a little bland and covered in too much oil. I ordered the sausage con verde and my girlfriend ordered a chicken pizza from the wood fired pizza menu. If you can’t get in else where it will do. But otherwise I would walk on by.

Possibly the worst meal and service I’ve ever had. They refused to make any adjustments(to the ridiculousness of refusing to not sprinkle cheese on a salad for someone who was lactose intolerant). The waiter only brought enough bread and water for half of our table, and we had to ask 3 times for him to bring more water. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes for our entrees to come. They claim the pasta is «home made» but I am doubtful since it tasted like the same stuff that comes out of a box(only worse than when I make it at home). Pizzas were terrible. Calamari was cold and not seasoned. Would not recommend to anyone.

Not sure why people are so down on this place. It wasn’t bad, but having a coupon made it a lot better. They’re in a fancy new building, right across from the stadium. It’s very central, and has outdoor seating. The menu is very carb-heavy, standard Italian fare. I went with a friend, we had paninis with salad for $ 9 each, and had a Greek side salad and a side of calamari.

Walked in with a group of 8 on the Saturday night of President’s Day weekend at around 8:00 p.m. We didn’t have a reservation. Place wasn’t that crowded but had numerous empty tables. They said the kitchen was backed up and they could seat us but it would be at least an hour before we could get our food and at least 20 minutes before they could even take our order. After sitting down for a few minutes and contemplating a drink order, I realized that few tables had food — which given how few tables were filled is a really, really bad sign. We decided to leave and I’m glad we did. It’s a great space and in a great location. Maybe it was an off-night and maybe they were short-staffed in the kitchen. But, if you walk into a restaurant at prime time and there are empty tables and a long wait to order, that’s not a kitchen that is well run.

Rather expensive for the portion, however, it was tasty and our waitress was nice. The chef used a ton of garlic in both dishes, good thing we love garlic, it was overpowering. Bread was fresh and tasty. Probably better served was the upstairs bar that was packed.
