A beautiful venue for live entertainment in Lake Oswego in a historic building in the heart of downtown LO. A longstanding part of the LO community, this beautiful theater is host to many a comedy and musical — so if you are dining in the area, consider stopping by — there is always something exciting going on there. Whether it is a class in acting for your child you are seeking or you would like to take a class yourself and see what happens behind the scenes of a theatrical production — the Lakewood Center for the Arts is the place to be. It is host to the huge summer Lakewood Festival of the Arts, a variety of artists showing on their walls, too. It is host to classes year round AND the Re-run Second Hand Consignment Store where you can find some real vintage treasures!!! Christmas incls the Lakewood in Lights musical evening which is lively and you can bid for auction items… A gem in Lake O, with comedies, musicals, farces galore — and some fine talent in our Portland theater community. There must be something for you here?! Check it out

Childhood is a time for make believe. And it doesn’t get much better than creating and acting in your own play if you have a child who is ‘dramatic.’ My son has taken three different acting classes at Lakewood during the past couple of years. They meet for an hour a week behind closed doors, since the production is hush-hush. The kids have a blast with improvisation, playing acting games and learning the basics of stagecraft. I’ve been really impressed by the instructors and at the end of the session, the kids debut their play on the main stage. The Lakewood Center for the Arts is best known as home to the Lakewood Theatre Company, the oldest continually operated not for profit theatre company in the Portland metro area. But I view it more as a community center with facilities used for dance, art and music classes and community meeting rooms. Lake Oswego takes their art seriously. And although I don’t live in the city limits, I’ve greatly benefited from my close proximity.
