This awesome supermarket is a true GEM. It has the old«General Store» feel, but all the modern conveniences. Should you forget anything while camping at MRA down the road(or anything neighboring campsites for that matter!) They have everything from firewood to bullets(a section of the store is dedicated to outdoors necessities.) and deli meats(and an actual butcher’s counter!) to ice cream! When we return next year we’ll definitely NOT bring any food, and just everything we need here! The staff is friendly, the prices are beyond reasonable, and we’re able to support a smaller chain store!!!

This store has it all, the prices are reasonable especially for a small town. I love there meat selection. If you ever get a chance get one of there meat packets, they are great for the prices. Needless to say whatever it is you need I can count on it that they would have it, if you can’t find ask one of the clerks they are so helpful. GREATPEOPLE…

Luckily this place is open early and literally has everything you could want and need for a camping trip! Stopped by there at least 3 times a day. The employees are friendly and helpful. Place gets slammed but that didn’t stop us from going back over and over.

I accidentally left my cell phone in the bathroom and didn’t realize it until it was after dark and the store had already closed. I stressed about it all night while camping. The next day I sped down to the store and was so relieved when the store employees Cody and Angel retrieved it from their Lost and Found. They told me they were honest people and this is an exemplary example of it. I mean this was an expensive cell phone and many people in the world would have taken it to sell for a quick buck to buy God knows what. But not the good people of this business. It brought tears to my eyes and the rest of my day was transformed. Thank you guys so much Dr. JC

A great little market to stock up on your food and beverage needs while hiking, camping or fishing in the Kern River, Lake Isabella or Sequoia areas. They have a deli counter with delicious fresh-made sandwiches and a good selection of coleslaw/potato salad-type items. And for being a small market, they have a very decent selection of fresh produce.

Top notch all around. Aside from the occasional upset employee that is too hungover to be there. What do you want? It’s Kernville. This place is top notch. They have everything you need and the deli is top notch. I dare anyone find a better deli in Kern County. Makes staying in Kernville top notch.

This place has EVERYTHING you need if you are camping on the Kern. I had the impression that Kernville was a town with maybe one shop, so I came super prepared with everything I might need for a camping trip, but as soon as I drove into town, I realized I was wrong. I came into the sierra market to get some ice for the cooler, and I was amazed when I walked in. They had fishing supplies, hunting supplies, a big market in the back with drinks, liquor, produce, hot food, grocery items, and rafts. You could literally come to the Kern on a whim with no supplies, and get everything you need here.(And for decent prices) I thought everything would be overpriced since this would be your last stop shop before heading out to the river, but everything is well priced. They had the same inner tube I bought at big 5 before heading out here for the $ 12 which was the sale price at big 5! We came back several times on our trip for tackle, ice, and drinks and we found everything we needed!

We camp the upper Kern two to three times a year and this store is the best. Produce is always great, Deli is just as good for prepared meals. But the meat by far is some of the best meat I have ever purchased. They also have meat pack that you can bring home with you at a very reasonable price but you need to order ahead. They also have a small sporting goods section that works for all the little things you may have forgotten like mantels or tent stakes. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful and very hard working to keep the store well stocked and looking in great shape.

We couldn’t live without James. First off, they have HOT food in their little deli. There’s a couple of German twins that cook there. They make pans of enchiladas, and shepards pie that keep us going. They have a lot of fried food like chicken and corn dogs and pizza sticks. The grocery store is a mini-Vons. A little high priced, but, you’re in the mountains and Vons is 20 minutes or more away. Their meat is GREAT in their butcher area. They also sell gas, although the little quickie shop across the street with broasted chicken is usually cheaper.

Small town grocery store, well stocked, clean, fresh produce, which is tended to all day by a component person. Nice meat dept. They have everything you need while on your camping trip right down to the fishing licenses and super friendly service. Local shoppers are very friendly as well.

I stopped here on my way to the most greatest awesome campi– Sorry. Don’t you hate it when people use Unilocal reviews to tell the story of their amazing, spectacular trips or whatever? Sierra Gateway market. A reliable stop with(damn near) everything you could need for your camping trip along the Kern River(from peanut butter to BB guns, soy milk to flip-flops).
