I heard about the Kiosks serving Macaroons that popped up last year in Smithhaven Mall. We never goto the mall but had to a few days back. Thankfully I ran right into this little stand after failing to find anything we came shopping for. They are slightly overpriced but they are macaroons. We tried a bunch of flavors. Peanut Butter and Jelly was interesting. Cookies in Cream was average. Lavender was decent. The Old Fashioned Vanilla was one of my favorites. The cookie itself differs from a normal macaroon. It reminded me of a particular italian cookie my grandmother used to share with me as a child. Really delicious. I’d probably go back for more just because of that cookie.

I was walking around the mall one day to kill time(I hate the mall so I was really killing my inner being) when I happened upon the macaron stand. I was already disappointed when I realized this was that big conglomerate macaron company that I suppose franchises out and what not. Being a huge fan of the French macaron and sharing this love with(and thanks to) my girlfriend, I decided to get a pack. These are incredibly difficult cookies to make from scratch, very labor intensive, and almond paste is all in that bitch so this is why they cost what they do. I expected these prices honestly but when I pay that much for something, I want a certain quality that just sort of lacked. The lavender was decent but every lavender I’ve had before has been better. That’s pretty much the run of the flavor board as well, nothing really impressed except for the caramel… It was actually somehow elevated beyond the rest of the batch. The cookies and cream was the biggest let down because it’s cookies and cream, it’s impossible for it not to be amazing, yet it wasn’t, it made me a sad little man buying macarons in the center of a mall… Anyway. These aren’t total junk, but I e been lucky enough to try macarons from a few really great places, I’ve even had a «Cheetos» macaron from a spot in the city. The best single macaron so far, a «poppy» from St. Maarten. I got a 40or50 pack from NYC that ran me up the wall quite a bit but the flavors were so unique I couldn’t resist. This place charges about as much but they aren’t quite as good. If I stumble upon them again one day, if like to try the old world vanilla that Joe mentions in his review as that would have been the next one I got when I got my box. Far too many people don’t really know what these French macarons are, they think of those coconut cluster macaroon things; if you are one of those people, give these a try, but know that they get even better.
