Fuji Grill

It’s hard not to give this place a high mark. It is all about balance at Fuji Grill: tasty, generous quantity, and affordable.
They close early but I suppose the city of Lake Forest is relatively sleepy at night.

We are accustomed to having real fresh sushi at reasonable prices. This place was neither. They are friendly but will fail as soon as some competition moved in. We had two chicken udon soups, one sashimi & chicken teriyaki combo plus some ½ off happy hour sushi. The hand rolls came in soggy seaweed wraps. The chicken on all the cooked entrée’s was low quality (scary). I would not go out of my way for this place. This place needs a celebrity chef makeover.

Typical rice-​bowl grill place. I wouldn’t say anything stood out special, nothing negative to say. The meat was tender and rice was soft. A big plus is they have all the bottles of sauces conveniently to use at your table and as much as you want.

This review is more of a 3.5 the food was great and service was ok, the only issue I had was, I ordered the half and half sushi bowl, I specifically told the girl, «Instead of imitation crab, can I substitute it for baked scallop please.» Her response, «Sure, it’ll be $ 1 extra.» I told her it was fine, when I got my meal, there were 5 pieces of baked scallop ON TOP of imitation crab. I specifically told her I didn’t want imitation crab, that’s why I paid $ 1 extra. Now I know next time not to substitute anything. I’m fine with paying extra for a different item, but not 5 tiny pieces of baked scallop.

Always have been a fan of Chef Kazuo Ikeda’s teriyaki — from the early years at Choito. When Fuji Grill opened up long ago, it was great! Then it was franchised off and the quality started to drop… quickly. So not having been back here for years, I decided to give it another go.
And glad I did!
Teriyaki chicken is juicy and charred to perfection. Not overly sauced with some goopy mess, the flavor is cooked into the hot freshly grilled meat (aka not cooked on a griddle flavor). Same edamame is present as always. oh nostalgia. I didn’t even bother to use the extra teriyaki or hot sauce that I received.
Tokyo steak are a little bit tougher to chew than the chicken but still cooked with the nice amount of charred edges and that teriyaki flavor. Steak should be chewy anyway! Ordered it with veggies since I forgot that it comes with edamame — next time it’ll be just the straight steak bowl.
Made the mistake of just looking down at the menus on the counter when there are additional specials and menu items hanging on the wall. I will definitely be back to try some of those. This store serves GREAT food and very reasonable prices with portions that will fill up most stomachs.
Service was also very cheery making this gamble a big win.

For a cheap food place the food is healthy and tasty, and the customer service is very good. The inside could use a little bit of love/​design, but I would go again for the food!

Today was my second time coming to this establishment and I am very satisfied with the customer service and the food.
I feel bad I cant remember the girls name who helped me, but she was super friendly and sweet, and both times I asked questions and for substitutions and she was very accommodating.
I only have gotten the Teriyaki bowls so far and both times LOVED them. Both times the chicken was cooked perfectly with a wonderful caramelized situation going on and very juicy. I will be back!

Very clean, good food, affordable, spacious (should accomodate 50+ customers), fast (important for weekday lunch)
If one likes Flame Broiler or Waba Grill, one should like this place too.
But most of all, one will feel welcomed here. I am a regular visitor here and continue to notice the lady who works here treating everyone with such courtesy and friendliness. I can definitely tell how much she enjoys what she does.
I have been trying the common rice bowls but will try others in their menu. I am sure they will be tasty as well.

Great place. Lots of good foods to order! Friendly staffs too! Try to order their special menu. They have lots to choose such as Oishi Steak, Bbq Ribs, Hibachi Chicken or even the Spicy Nabayaki Udon too! Totally recommended for those people who only have 30mins –1 hr lunch break! Oh yeah also try their sushi bowls or rolls too if you guys like sushi. Love this place!

We have been coming to this restaurant for years. Everyone there is always so nice. The Sushi Bowls are outstanding and addicting… especially the Alaska Bowl, hibachi chicken, sesame chicken, Tiger roll, spider roll and king Kong roll are the best. Our friends are also addicted and have us order them a sushi bowl and delivery it to the job

Great quality, very deceiving from the outside. This is my second time here and each time I have come I was very impressed with food freshness and quality.

Came here during lunch. Great Sushi! Awesome Teriyaki! Clean Inside. Good Customer Service. Can’t get much simpler or better than that.

I’m so sorry to post a negative review because honestly, the service was a 5, but the food was a 1. Everything tasted super fishy, I almost couldn’t eat it. Fantastic service, hopefully some of their other dishes taste better.

Perfect food for my diet! Very healthy and fresh. My fav dishes are grilled salmon, steak bowl and rainbow roll. Very reasonable price!

Dear Fuji Grill, thank you for giving my co worker and I food poisoning off your steak bowls! I truly enjoyed vomiting for an hour and the wonderful feelings after! I will probably not be back!

I come here all the time. Food was delicious, pretty healthy. The worker really nicee n friendly. Bbq Eel bowl was my favourite with their secret spicy sauce. The Store its clean and simple. Love this place! Very recommended! You guys should try it! :))

I’m compelled to write a review for Fuji Grill after all these years coming to this place… and somewhat surprised to see some of the not-​so-​good rating since this place deserves better … and 100% agree that this place is better than Flame Broiler or WaBa Grill … no comparison !
They have a pretty extensive menu selection and everything I tried here is good, but some of my favorites are the Tataki bowl, Washington roll, Alaskan Bowl, and the tempeh bowl.
You can ask for the yummy fried rice on your bowl order ($ 2 extra but worth every penny) or ask for brown rice for a healthier option.
The edamame on top of the bowl is a nice touch and the imitation crab salad on top of the rice bowl is super delicious.
The quality of the sushi and sashimi is pretty good especially considering what you pay.
Service is good and super friendly… generous with the teriyaki sauce, chili, and soy sauce
Prices are very reasonable and you do get a lot for your money … so come on down for a healthy, yummiest and affordable meal

Picked up late lunch one day and got the chicken bowls and some sushi. Everything was pretty good.
What really stood out was the customer service. Everyone was so nice and friendly.
Definitely will be coming back.

If you’re into rice bowls, this place will rock your boat. Step aside Flame Broiler, you’re no match to Fuji Grill.
You can choose between rice bowls or bentos. I personally like to get their bentos. SUPER BENTO to be exact. It comes with chicken teriyaki and tokyo steak. Both well-​seasoned and grilled to perfection. You can request for white meat if you’re particular with your chicken, otherwise, it’ll be mostly dark meat which I prefer. It also comes with one shrimp tempura. The batter is thicker than normal but for some weird reason, I really like the taste that I don’t mind eating it by itself even when the shrimp is all gone. The house teriyaki sauce heightens up the flavor of everything on this bento box so make sure to ask for extra and dip away. A side salad and edamame comes with this meal as well. Quite a generous portion for less than $ 10. Get brown rice and steamed veggies like I do for a healthier choice.
I recommend their CHICKEN TERIYAKI SALAD if you want to steer away from carbs. It’s a bed of greens topped with grilled chicken teriyaki and drizzled with their house salad dressing. On a normal day, I have to force myself to eat my daily vegetable intake but here, I’ll eat their salad willingly with no objections.
From their sushi section, I’ve had their CRUNCHY ROLL and VOLCANO ROLL. Both decent considering this is more like a fast food type of establishment. I’d order these from time to time when I’m not in the mood for some rice bowls or salad.
As for SERVICE, what can I say? The owners for this particular location are great. Very personable and easy to talk to. I used to eat here a lot when work was closer but now that we’ve moved, they’re just a phone call away and they’ll deliver to you. They have a minimum for delivery so check to see how much. It’s under new management now but even then it’s been great. Looks like nothing has changed. I’m a big fan!
