Yes the cheese selection is great and there are literally hundreds. They are open to suggestions for new varieties and rotate out suppliers if the quality declines(don’t give up on their herbed-Cotswold, it’s better than ever). However what brings me in on a more regular basis is the great selection of deli meats for home. Samples flow at request and I highly recommend their own Italian roast turkey breast. It has a clean turkey flavor, hint of herb, and stays fresh at home for almost a week. With their Italian specialties(prosciutto di parma, mortadella, a little Volpi genoa salami and adding a little of their own giardinera(carrots, celery and the rest included) you can make one heck of a sandwich yourself. And don’t forget to stock up on your spices, I don’t think you’ll find a better price or freshness. Lake Forest is lucky to have Caputo’s!

Very unfriendly environment with bad customer service. Our family was the only customers at the store. It took them over 15 min to slice a cheese for a single sandwich. When we addressed issue«we were told come back next time and we will have sandwich for you». Really? Well, we will take our business somewhere else for a better food and friendly environment. Very disorganized place and the sandwich at the end was not good either.

Caputo Cheese Market has a wonderful variety of cheeses, sandwiches, pastries and charcuterie. The selection is well priced, and there are a good selection of drinks. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and I hardly ever have any wait time. My only complaint is that although there is a coffee bar, the shots generally taste much more watered-down than they should.

I had to stop in Lake Forrest on my way to work and I discovered this store when I parked in front of it. I walked and I was blow away by the assortment of cheeses. I walked around checking everything out and I love the selection! The only reason why I didn’t give this place 5 stars because I was not greeted once when I was walking around. I had a few employees walk by me, made eye contact and still didn’t say anything to me. I grabbed some ravioli’s and I went to the check out counter. The young gentleman that was behind the counter didn’t smile, ask how I was, or if I found everything that I was looking for. I will be back because it looks like a great shop and I am sure I can find any type of cheese I am looking for, but the customer service has to improve!

The cheese selection is dizzying! So much fun to shop there, they also have a small café there, caramel pecan and raspberry brownies are so delicious. My only suggestion would be to have samples to taste,

Best sandwiches ever! Lobster rolls(only served on Fridays, if I recall correctly) are outstanding. Everything in in the shop is fresh and the folks that work there are very friendly. Great spot for a quick lunch!

Gorgeous selection of cheeses, imported products, baked goods.. consistently indifferent uncaring service.. . staff often standing around talking to each other rather than greeting or engaging customers.. .very difficult to find anyone with knowledge of cheese here.. .strongly suggest avoiding.. .

Just thinking about this place makes me happy!!! So many delicious choices of Italian meats, cheeses, desserts even wine! I’ve picked up food from the market and also gotten their prepared food– can’t go wrong with anything at this place. Best part is the price– so reasonable!!! Delicious! Wish I could go all the time but I don’t live nearby.

A great little cheese shop in the heart of downtown LF. Excellent cheese and deli meat selection and really good sandwiches at the deli. Great for picking up a variety of cheeses(oh, and wine!!) for a party or to grab a bite for s quick lunch.

Amazing cheese selection. We purchased 2 hard cheeses and 2 softer cheeses. They have a huge selection of meats as well. You can have a meal prepared for you with sandwich selections. There are baked items that are unique. We stopped and got enough cheese, crackers, meat and wine to have an hors’devore dinner. They will slice the cheese any way you like.

Great cheese shop! Of course, Caputo markets are always a good choice for Italian meats, cheeses, etc., but this is one well-stocked cheese market. I honestly didn’t expect the selection to be so extensive, and at such great prices. I’m talking huge pie-style chunks of cheese cut off the wheel for around $ 5, and generally pricey cheeses at that. Also, if you stop by, grab yourself a sandwich: they’re delicious, fairly large, and a great value; many under $ 5 before tax. I had an Italian grilled cheese, which oddly had no Italian cheeses: Tillamook cheddar(American), Manchego(Spanish), and a Lithuanian cheese — but was delicious nonetheless, with tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette. I’m going to need to try the Caputo Classico Italian sub next time.

I really like this place! Caputo’s offer a great variety of cheese. You’ll definitely find something you like here. When i visit, i always get the English Sticky Toffee with dates and raisins. It is one of my favorites! If you like a hint of sweetness in your cheese, i def recommend this. It doesnt really taste like cheese but just have that cheese texture when you bite into it. YUM! The employees there are pretty friendly and helpful. They have suggested me with some great selections of cheese and always happy to let you sample something you just arent too sure of. Most of the cheese i bought home was always fresh and tasted great. I def. feel like it is a lot better than grocery store brought cheese. Next to the cheese section is also a deli place where you can get deli meat and salads. They have some wine and imported cracker selection there as well. If you are hungry, they also have a small deli place where you can order sandwiches, drinks and desserts. Freshly made to order, reasonably priced. This place can get a little crowded during lunch rush at times. I usually go on an early sunday morning. Plenty of street parking during off hours. And yes, they are open 7 days a week! Come give this place a try! I dont think you will be disappointed!

I’ll keep this short as you can see from all other Unilocalers. This place is fantastic. Amazing selection of cheese, and anything Italian(pastas, meats, cheese, baccala, etc). If you like Kraft American cheese stick with the cheese section at Target or Walmart. This is for people interested in top quality foods at low prices. It’s crazy. The food is excellent. I have eaten here 50 plus times over the years. Must try the beat salad and spicy tuna salad. Pre made subs(mini’s are perfect with a soup or two by themselves. Deli uses only best meats(Boars Head). The prices are AMAZING. Try a party tray… really excellent. Many top line wines at excellent prices. This place is like a slice of little Italy in the Northshore.

Great selection of cheese, pasta and all things italian. Best cheese selection in Lake Forest and reasonable prices. My kids love the meatballs from the deli, soprasata mini sandwiches and whoopie pies. The fresh baked rolls are the best! We needed a place like Caputos in Lake Forest and now we have it!

Bad start to the evening. I REALLY wanted to get downtown by 6:30 to see a friend. I was at a meeting with my client, and YAK!!! I ran to catch the bus to the Metra, only to smell only a trace of diesel remaining in the air. A taxi, a taxi, a kingdom for a taxi! By the time the taxi came, my kingdom was gone and I was still five minutes late for the train. Well, I’d never hung out in downtown Lake Forest before; so now was my chance. What was I to do? I took out my phone for a lay of the land… And behold, a sight that Wallace and Gromit would have held dear: a whole shop chock-full of cheese! I didn’t look to see if they had Wallace and Gromit’s Wensleydale, but they certainly had a cheese-monger’s horse-drawn cart of many other delicacies. I just wanted a sandwich, and what could be better than grilled cheese here? I ordered the Italian – perfectly-browned bread and perfectly-melted cheese. But, what the… The first ingredient in the«Italian» grilled cheese is Tilamook yellow cheddar? Now, I’ve been to the Tilamook factory in the corner of the not-well-traveled coast of Oregon(very long story having to do with lumber, plywood, American/Canadian trade and some surly, spotted-owl hating clients). I can’t say that I heard a «buon giorno» or even a «ciao» in the factory, in the town, and maybe even the state.(I’ve also never seen an Italian wearing flannel – well, maybe in nice, grey suit, but not a lumberjack’s shirt). And I don’t know any cheeses that look good in yellow, though it does bring one back to childhood… I wanted to deduct a star for this linguistic SNAFU being a catalyst for my little tirade, but the 49-cent, two-bite cannoli sweetened me up again. And I just like the idea that this place is here. I’ll just have to pretend that that sandwich had a different name, and hope the Pope doesn’t notice if he returns to Chicago. By the way, the picnic tables are perfect on a fair summer’s night.

We stopped here to restock our cheese cravings and fulfill our italian heritage craving, by eating a couple of Italian sandwiches. The Muffaletta and Caputo special sandwiches. Both are very tasty. The service is impeccable and the store is very clean and organized. It’s a Thursday and they had samples of cheese and Italian Cookies. An excellent spot for all your Italian lawn parties. The store has everything from Cheese, wine, beer, lunch meat, Gelato, anchovies, Italian sparkling water, cookies, pastries, mini cannoli’s, espresso counter, coffee, tea, Italian bread, cheese, and much more. How did we miss this place? They are going on their 5th year. Parking in front and side streets. A wonderful lunch spot. Very unusual cheeses as well. They also make party trays. Friday’s they have lobster roll sandwiches. The staff is very polite and spirited with kindness. Next time I will be trying the espresso or a latte. Ciao

I’ve stopped here a couple of times to pick up cheese or pastries. The selection is great. Lunch is a bit of a miss, though. Despite the extensive menu displayed, your options are limited to pre-made sandwiches in a refrigerated case. At least, that’s what my colleague and I have been told twice now. Maybe we’re doing something wrong? I’ve been pleased with my pre-made sandwiches, but it leaves no room for customization or tweaking beyond removing an ingredient and leaving it on the plastic wrap the sandwich came in.
