I chose Maui Mike for some last minute surf lessons and they were able to accommodate me on short notice! All of the staff were kind and friendly… And Maui himself was great to spend time with. The lessons he gave were superb! I was nervous but got up on my second try and was surprised how well I did! This local business has a lot of retail and services too so make sure you check it out. I would HIGHLY recommend Maui Mike for surf lessons, you will have an awesome time.

I love this place for snorkel equipment rentals. Their prices can’t be beat and they have consistently stellar, friendly service. Last, we love their shave ice the best in Maui. We stop here daily when in Maui for our treat fix! So good with the ice cream, made even better by Mike’s aloha spirit!

This is the place I think about the most now that I’m back from vacation. We went here several times. Mike is totally cool, and the shaved ice is absolutely the best. They’re huge! My fave is definitely the Guava. Very tropical and sweet. Wish I had one right now — even in the dead of winter.

Rented a kayak and a SUP for 24hrs for $ 90. Was awesome and one of the most memorable experiences we had all week. We had 6 people swapping from board to kayak and had fun from 9 until we went to eat at 4pm. The price is unbeatable. Our hotel wanted $ 55 per hour. Would highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back.

Reminds me of the old school surf shops I loved as a kid. Super friendly staff, especially Kimberly — she knows the true meaning of aloha. Fun, funky shop with some awesome brands I’ve never even heard of — this is a family business, not a corporate sell out shop. After you’re done shopping or renting a board from the very helpful staff, get a yummy shave ice for half the price of the ones on Front St. Stop in, you can’t miss it!

Maui wowwee! Love the shave(d) ice here! Owner, Mike, is awesome and super friendly. My boyfriend and I came here nearly everday for shave ice. We recommend the coconut, tiger’s blood and blue raspberry flavors. Prices aren’t bad either in comparison to others in town. Occasionally, there was a little lacking in the syrup department, but that wasn’t a deterrent at all! The softest ice we’ve had. Maui Mike’s was an essential to our trip: D

Excellent service & friendly helpful staff. Wide board selection that already has a base coat(big deal when other places don’t put a base coat on their boards). They even provide extra wax, took off the side fins for me, and set up the vehicle with a roof top carrier. I’ve rented in a variety of places. This is the best.

Surf lessons were one of our favorite activities while in Maui. Mike, the owner, took his time with our group and was an excellent teacher. His love for surfing and the island really show. I would highly recommend visiting his store for any gear, grabbing some delicious shaved ice and hitting the water with some private surf lessons. You won’t regret it!

I stopped in here to pick something up. I’ve driven by this place so many times, and I always think: I need to go in there and check it out! Well I finally got the chance! There is so much selection in here! Shirts, slippahs, decals, surf equipment, beach supplies… I wanted one of everything. It’s nicely organized and there is a good variety of stuff. Want a shirt in pink not yellow? Got it. A large Maui surf sticker? Yep. A few different colors of surf shorts? Find your favorites. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Anyone who is visiting Maui or lives on Maui should swing in here when crusing on the west side. And don’t forget shave ice on your way out. You’ll need a cool treat in the heat. And remember: not all shave ice is created equal. Some are made with lots of aloha… that’s how they do things at Maui’s Beach House!:

My family and I recently came back to Maui for the fourth time and we just discovered this place! I’m usually not a fan of shaved ice but I’m obsessed with it now. The flavors and flavor choices are great! And I would definitely recommend getting the macadamia nut ice cream at the bottom. The best part is how inexpensive the shaved ice is compared to others places. And the portion size for the smallest(medium) is crazy big. The only downside is it takes about five minutes for each cone… But it’s beyond worth it! Next time I’m in town this will be my go-to dessert!

This was easily my favorite spot on Maui. I spent 3 days on Maui for my youngest brother’s wedding(late Wednesday afternoon to early Saturday morning) and had shave ice here four times(not to mention two shopping trips to purchase Sanuks for myself and random souvenirs to bring back to the mainland for friends) For those who just did the math, YES, I DID come here twice in one day. In my defense, it was with two slightly different groups of people — though I did have my OWN shave ice each time — STOPJUDGINGME, IT’S THATGOOD. There is a tiny parking lot behind Maui’s Beach house which made maneuvering our massive rental car quite a feat of dexterity. Not only are people constantly coming and going, but there are rental surfboards and other gear sharing the parking lot with the cars; there was always somebody either checking equipment in or checking it out on every one of our visits. People can enjoy their shave ice at the picnic table with two benches, and umbrella and random chairs that also share a portion of the tiny lot. Lots of movement, noise, and general chaos are an integral part of the entire experience. They sell shave ice out the back window of the store under a bright green wooden awning. The prices were incredibly reasonable, only $ 4 for a medium, $ 5 for a large, plus an additional $ 1 to add a scoop of ice cream(vanilla, coconut, macadamia nut, chocolate, pineapple, mint chip) to the bottom. Only a rookie would order a shave ice without the ice cream on the bottom and sweet cream poured over the top.(Yes, I made that mistake on my first visit, but I learned quickly). On each occasion I had slightly different combinations which involved either the coconut, pineapple, or macadamia nut ice creams with the guava(my favorite), mango, or pineapple syrups. Every one of the combinations was excellent and I didn’t regret a bite. Did I mention that the portion sizes are RIDICULOUSLY huge? Seriously, a large could be shared by four people and they’d all feel like they had enough to be satisfied. We ROLLED out of there each time we had our own medium size portions. Warning: Don’t be surprised when it takes A WHILE for the shave ice to get there. Trust me, the wait will be worth it! They also serve various types of hot dogs and chips and sodas(including awesome Hawaiian flavors). There was a gourmet version of ice cream(not available with the shave ice called Coconut Glen’s non-dairy ice cream which was a little pricey at $ 5 for 2 scoops and came in exotic flavors like lilikoi, chocolate pineapple banana, coffee toffee, vanilla bean which I was dying to try. Inside, there is a surf shop selling a wide variety of clothing, sandals, jewelry, hair gadgets, and souvenirs of all types. We had fun trying on silly sunglasses and shopping for sandals, hair flowers, and all types of random souvenirs. The people who worked there were quite friendly and helpful. When I couldn’t find the Sanuks I wanted in the correct size(I purchased several pairs) one of the ladies went upstairs to search for what I wanted. We didn’t rent any surf equipment on this visit, but we saw plenty of people returning it and they all seemed to be quite happy with what they received. We had nothing but pleasant experiences here, but they definitely run the shop on Island time. Don’t be in a rush, and it will be alright. Shaka Brah!(Hang loose)

This place came highly recommended by friends who visit Maui yearly and it did not disappoint. I got the blue vanilla and blue raspberry with cream and it was delicious! Be prepared for a giant serving of shaved ice as there isn’t a small option and medium is as big as my six year old’s head :).

If you think paying $ 40-$ 50/hr for a stand up paddle(SUP) board or surf board at one the resorts off Kaanapali Beach e.g. The Westin, Sheraton, Marriott, etc is ridiculous, you’re absolutely right. Head over to Maui Beach House(just a couple miles away from the resorts off the main road) and rent a SUP or surf board for $ 40/$ 30 for 24 hrs or & $ 120/$ 100 for 7 days, respectively. These are just a couple of numerous things that are available for rent. Others items include bodyboards, kayaks, snorkeling gear, wet suits, etc. The staff is also extremely kind, friendly, and are genuinely hospital people; they’ll even help mount your boards or kayak free of charge. Don’t forget to try the shave ice while you’re there!

We met some kids here waiting in line for their shaved ice. «Is this place good?», we asked. «Yes, we come here EVERYDAY», the seven year old replied. «Do you live here?» «No, we’re on vacation.» «How long have you been in vacation.» «Um… We got here yesterday.»
