First of all, like some other people said, the staff don’t say«hi «unless we say hi. We were there to get a skateboard but their knowledge for skateboards was so poor and this girl who helped us wasn’t sure if the trucks were charged individually so went into the back to check and came back. She sais they charge individually so it’s $ 46 each. $ 92 for both which was more than a board itself! I was wondering if that’s right but since she came back from the back and apparently checked it for us, I didn’t say anything. They asked me if I needed a help for assembling so of course I said yes. I thought the assembling service would come with the board. We left the store and came back to pick up our skateboard later. What a surprise! They did a terrible job. The deck looked horrible and it wasn’t glued properly. The side of the gripped deck was jagged up and not straight at all. We didn’t really check in the store so couldn’t see that but we went outside and noticed. So, we took it back inside right away and asked the girl staff if that’s normal. She said, «Oh, our razor was rusty…» When I heard it, I was speechless for a second. But I asked her if they can redo it and she said they will. So I left the board at the store. The next day, we came to pick it up. She wasn’t there. This other guy said, «it looks better, right?» Not really… I had to take it even though I still didn’t like it. I also asked this guy about the truck that she charged for both. I was almost sure trucks are sold for a pair… He went somewhere(again! like the other girl did.) came back, «I’m sorry, yes it should be for both so we charged too much» Ugh! So they ripped me off if I didn’t ask that question… I wonder if they double charge to everybody who buys trucks at local motion. I will never go back there again. Terrible and horrible service. I regretted that I bought the skateboard from them.

I’ve been coming to Local Motion for over 30 years, at this new store and the original that was on Front Street. Many comments were complaints about service and not getting greeted. Surf shops are very low keyed and the employees will try to assist you if you just ask. The store has some great deals if you look and in my opinion, this is one of the first places we come to when in town and looking for new board shorts and women’s swim wear.

My family and I came here at 7:42 and on the door it says it closes at 8:00. The door was locked and the guy came and told us they need 15 minutes to clean up? That is ridiculous we were going to spend at least $ 200 there they must be lazy and want to get home. Whatever we won’t be going back!!! So at the end of our trip we did end up going by local motion because my dad wanted to look at suitcases… we walk in and no employees are anywhere to be found not one hello or welcome. Probably the worst customer service I have seen in awhile, I love the stuff they sell I got two shirts and a pair of shorts but not once did anyone ask me if I needed a room or assistance… they had no personality and acted like they wanted to be anywhere but there. Get some new employees that actually care about their job and helping people and maybe your store will be better! Have a good one!

great shop. basicly they have a bit of everything so instead of doing work and going to billabong, quiksilver, hurly and so on. just go here and you have the best of all of them in one spot !

Still great and still awesome staff. Greeted as I entered with the family. I could see they still have a great selection of boards and clothes. This is my favorite store in Lahaina. It’s a necessary stop for any beach clothing needs.

The salesperson last night was really friendly and helpful. She was patient with me as I called my brother to ensure that he would like the shirt I would get him. Her patience with me paid off with me buying the shirt that my brother would like(i.e., simple black t-shirt with«Hawaii» in orange; and the«ii» in Hawaii were palm trees). Local Motion is strong brand, in my opinion, along with HIC.

I had a delightful time shopping at Local Motion and both employes in the store were very warm, welcoming and helpful. They greeted me when I walked into the store, helped me find what I wanted and needed, showed me where the dressing room was, stayed nearby and answered all the questions I had. It was a really positive experience for me. PS. I am not a surfer or snorkeler — I am a 72 year old woman who needed an insulated rash guard for my morning water aerobics class at the Lahaina pool.

I went into Local Motion last night with my family shopping for a few T-shirts like I always do when I visit Maui. The young lady working there didn’t acknowledge us until I said«hi» and she returned with a nod. I found a couple loose shirts and was checking out the T-shirt wall for a good few minutes where I spotted a couple more shirts I was interested in. The employee never asked if I needed assistance(which I did). I meandered around the store for a couple more minutes… nothing. I’ve proudly worn LM gear since I first visited Hawaii in the early 80s as a child. I was prepared to spend some money last night but with such unwelcoming staff I put down my items and suggested my family members do the same and we left. I know one employee isn’t representative of a whole company so I’ll probably return on my next visit. But for this trip I’ll keep my business at Tropix.

Us surfer girls always want new bikinis to keep us looking good in the water. A lot of surf shops are known for having ‘attitude’ or being ‘too cool’. Local Motion is definitely an exception– the customer service is AMAZING and the selection is really good too. The staff is genuine and go out of their way to make you feel welcome:) Nikki, Kevin(loved him!) and Willy were all super friendly. They were also knowledgable about not only clothing but surf gear. Thanks Kevin for the great suggestions as to what new fins I might try. Being a girl sometimes the guys don’t want to help you out– but these boys were FABULOUS. Thanks SO much for the great input– this last swell I had more fun than ever. My new fins worked perfectly & I think I might come back in to try another set that Kevin recommended. Mahalo for spreading da Aloha! Lucky we live Hawaii.

My husband and I spent almost 2 weeks in Maui and while there, my husband and a friend both rented surf boards from Local Motion. My husband left his credit card number with Local Motion as a deposit in case there was damage or if he didn’t return the board. When we returned the surf boards, the employee was unable to process any of the multiple credit cards we gave her because her machine wasn’t working. She took our information including both of our credit card #‘s, phone numbers and gave us a receipt acknowledging the total we each owed – $ 120. And we left. A week or so later, we noticed on our statement that both week long rentals were charged to our account. We called and spoke to the manager regarding the double charge. He acknowledged the double charge but refused to issue us a credit. We are now in the process of disputing the extra charges with our credit card company. My husband go to Hawaii every year and always rent some sort of equipment(surf boards, paddle boards, snorkel gear) but we will NEVER rent from Local Motion and will be sure to tell as many people as we know about the terrible service we received.

I’m a surf-aholic when I’m in Hawaii but couldn’t bring my board due to airlines charging $ 120 each way for oversize luggage. F* rip-off. SO, I had to rent a board and Local Motion really made it a very pleasant experience for me. They had a good selection of all sizes and shapes, mostly epoxy. The store was super helpful in telling me information about surf conditions, surf spots, calling the surf report for me. I was also able to switch out the boards for different surf conditions. I wanted a 7’3 they had but there was a ding near the fins. so the guy diligently fixed it and had it ready for me the next day to pick up. Talk about great customer service.

Next to Aloha Mixed Plate, behind Safeway… Local Motion has an awesome selection of boards, shirts, shorts and decals. Went in recently to try and purchase one of their long boards that they’ve been using as a rental. Even though they didn’t want to part with it, they gave a couple really good referrals that lead to a successful purchase. Props for keeping their logo consistent over the years.
