Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the price. $ 25 for a small but amazingly delicious lobster roll.

For me, great food & ambiance go hand in hand… I heard great things about this place through my Mom. I think she had heard about it on Food Network for lobster rolls. So… I had to give it a try when I was in Laguna Beach last weekend. Let’s talk first about the food. The lobster roll is great. It’s perfectly portioned. Good amount of lobster to buttery toasted bread. Stands up perfectly with a flat bottom. Lobster meat is the star of the show. Each roll comes with fries & cole slaw. The fries are peppered with old bay seasoning. If you check in on Unilocal, you’ll get a chowder toast. I’d never heard of such thing so I had to give it s try. It’s essentially buttered toast with a scoop of clam chowder & crumbled bacon. Was… Ok. The problem I had with this place is it really is a shack. There’s no clean seating outside the shack. There’s old gross clusters of old seafood all over the chairs & tables. Clearly they don’t clean them ever. That’s enough to make me walk & eat on the street!

Slap fish probably has the best lobster rolls out of any other places that I’ve tried.

Pretty good place with affordable seafood! The service was fast and there was a nice outdoor seating area out front. The only thing that I had a problem with was that the single and double fish and chips meals only really differed in that there was one more fish filet on the double order than the single order that we ordered. They were still big and tasty portions though so it didn’t matter too much! We also got the Unilocal deal for free chowder toast and that was delicious. The guy up front was nice and gave us samples of all of their special sauces. Would definitely come back again!

After hiking a couple of hours at nearby Alta Laguna Park(Top of the World), we were famished! So I asked the girls, what kind of food do you want? One of them said Clam Chowder. Typed it into Unilocal and found Slapfish! 4 stars with over 400 reviews sounded like a winner. They have a tiny location in what I believe is downtown Laguna Beach. If you blink, you might miss them. Menu is not complicated, but still took us awhile to decide because everything sounded amazing. Eventually we did decide, and we found a spot to sit after placing our order at the counter. By the way, there are about 6 bar chairs at a counter for indoor seating. There are a few tables and chairs outside for your dining pleasure. Here is a list of the food we shared: Chowder Toast. This was free with a Unilocal Check In. That little side order was tasty! You should order it, if you are a fan of bacon, cheese, and toast!(4 stars) Chowder Fries. My niece’s selection instead of the clam chowder she was craving for. Well, there was clam chowder inside the cup along with the fries plus bacon. All of it did go well together. Would order this one again.(4 stars) Lobster Roll was my choice. The market price that day was $ 19.99. For what I received, I felt the price was too high. Have purchased Lobster Rolls from other Southern California locations at lower prices which tasted just as good. Guess I chose a bad day to buy it. To be fair, it was tasty.(3 stars) Ultimate Fish Taco. My wife said the grilled fish was pretty good. I tried it, and I thought it was ok. Perhaps we should have applied some of their awesome sauce onto it?(3 stars) 3.5 stars overall. Although we were not completely satisfied with our experience here, I can see us returning again someday. Service was decent. I like their modern Seafood shack look as well.

This update is purely based on the customer service of the owner. After I posted my review, I received a heart felt, genuine apology for not reaching my expectations. Not many owners would have the courage to do that. Due to the amazing customer service, I will definitely try Slapfish again. Andrew thank you for truly caring about your customers. You are the epitome of a passionate restaurant owner.

I’m always up for trying seafood restaurants and I was hearing good things about this one. We went on the weekend of Valentine’s Day so Slapfish had a special menu going on. I tried the lobster beignets and lobster chowder fries while my husband got fried fish and chips. Everything was cooked to perfection and was finger-licking delicious. So much so that I asked my husband to get another order of the lobster beignets. For my last meal, I request a side order of Slapfish lobster beignets. My husband’s fish was moist and tender and the batter on everything was very light and crispy. A bit on the greasy side but what can I expect from deep fried goodness. We didn’t get the lobster roll because we’ve been to Maine and nothing beats what they offer there in terms of freshness and price — can’t comment on that part of the menu. The food was surprisingly filling and our meal came up to less than $ 40 with the extra order of beignets. What a great way to spend the day at a beautiful beach eating food that tastes out of this world.

Honestly, I had such high expectations because of the instagram pics I keep seeing. However, my roommate and I ordered the lobster roll for market price($ 22) and the fried shrimp roll($ 14). Also got the free chowder toast. My favorite was the shrimp roll because of how many shrimps they included, but both rolls did tasted a little dry. They put the spicy mayo(?) sauce on top of the rolls when I would rather have it inside because that would make it moist. My roommate said the fried shrimp roll was a bit too oily for her but I thought it was fine. I definitely have had better rolls and it’s not worth the drive for me.

Amazing! My First Time Trying This Place & I Was Not Disappointed! I originally Went For The Shrimp Tacos, But Unfortunately they were Out Of Shrimp :( So I Decided To Grab Some Fish Tacos Instead! they Were DELICIOUS! I Also Got A Side Of Chowder Fries & A Lobster Roll. All Were Amazing, Did I Mention That They Have This Sauce Called The«Awesome Sauce» The Name Suits It Perfect! That Sauce & Their Food Put Together Is Mouth Watering! Perfect Combo. I Would Highly Recommend This Spot To Anyone That Loves Seafood.

Very very good but is it worth the price? Not at all! 4 stars because my overall experience MINUS the pricing. I drove 1 hour and 30 minutes for this place so I had high expectations. I ordered… THELOBSTERROLL: I only ordered one and the total was $ 28. $ 28 for a little lobster roll? I understand it’s market priced & it varies but that’s ridiculous! Other than the price, the lobster roll was really good & fresh. I liked that they didn’t overly mayo the roll & the bun was nicely toasted. The size of this thing was SO tiny. My boyfriend & I split the roll because we wanted to save $. Luckily I get full quickly so it wasn’t a bad thing we split. The lobster roll is served with a side of fries that is covered in chili powder. FREECHOWDERTOAST: This was smothered in chowder and bacon which was kinda overwhelming. I didn’t eat the bacon because I’m a pescatarian but my boyfriend seemed to enjoy it because well, it’s free. The chowder made the bread kinda soggy; I wouldn’t spend money on this. CUSTOMERSERVICE: The girl that took my order was friendly and welcoming. Overall, if you’re in the area you should give this place a try but don’t do what I did & come here specially for this place. I loved that the beach was right across the street; that’s what made my commute worth it!

Stopped in here for a bite to eat our first night in Laguna. From the outside it looked more like a fast food joint than a restaurant and I almost turned around and left. Thanks Unilocalers for all the great reviews because that’s what kept me there to have what would turn out to be one of the best fish sandwiches I have eaten in some time. Upon entering the cashier immediately asked if he could help us. We took a look at the small menu, which in some cases is helpful as the offerings are perfected since they only cook so many things. I ordered the fish sandwich and was offered a few different types of fish, I chose Mahi Mahi. My husband order the fish and chips with Cod. When I received the sandwich I could not believe how large it was with two large pieces of Mahi Mahi. I could barely get my mouth around it, but I managed somehow. The bread began to fall apart but the taste was amazing. The crust on the fish was a beer batter that made my mouth very happy. The fish was falling out of my sandwich with every bite. Make sure you have plenty of napkins as you will need them with the amount of mess this sandwich makes. But oh so worth it. Now on to the fish and chips. I had to taste it, so I took a bite and while it was good too, my sandwich took 1st place in taste. Would love to have had it again, but there was so many places to try in Laguna Beach, but next time I come back I will eat here more than once.

I had heard a lot of praise for this place and finally found myself right next to it during a lunch hour. So I jumped on the opportunity and stopped in for a bite. The menu is limited; much more limited than I had been expecting. And it’s not exactly healthy, either. Every item either comes on a roll, with fries, or is fried. The only healthy option was a salad and I’m not exactly a big fan of eating a salad and calling it a meal. So I got the fish & chips. It was super greasy and oily. Oh, god, was it ever oily. I had hoped for something lighter and less greasy, but this was not that thing. At all. To be fair, it was lighter than most fish & chips I’ve had before but there wasn’t much to distinguish this from competitors either. I’m not a big fry guy, so I only nibbled on a few of the chips before calling this dish. Don’t come here looking for a healthy alternative or anything. If you want some fresh fish on a roll, or in a salad, then this might be the spot for you. Me, I found the menu didn’t quite gibe with what I usually like, so this’ll be a one-stop spot on my list.

Mediocre lobster roll. Maybe it’s because I’ve had some amazeballs rolls in Maine. The bread is soft and lobster is tasty. They do different flavors and spices. Unlike the New England style where it’s butter or mayo. The roll on the smaller side. Had some chowder as well. Good flavor, but lacking on any lobster chunks or potatoes. Basically a cup of cream. Don’t get the tacos!!! Just nasty! The staff are nice. But whisper so you can’t hear a single thing they are saying. Clean restaurant and tons of outdoor seating to be had.

This Slapfish is set in a beautiful location right across from the ocean. We did not find any nearby parking lots, so we ended up with street parking about a block away. There are only a few stools set at a bar inside for customers to eat, but there are plenty of tables with umbrellas set right outside in the courtyard-type area. This little seafood«shack» was clean, and had a restroom for customers. You walk up to the register and place your order, then they’ll deliver the food to you once it’s ready. The staff was friendly and helpful as we were trying to decide what to order. The menu was quite short, but still had a lot of good items to choose from. They have a craft soda machine with options such as: Shirley Temple, Pink Lemonade, Orange, Lemon Lime, regular Cola, and Diet Cola. We ended up ordering two of the same thing, which was probably a mistake for us since we could have shared one and would have been satisfied. But, we both left extremely full since the portions were quite large. We each ordered the Lobster Roll with Chowder Fries — both were delicious. The Lobster Roll tasted fresh, had large pieces of lobster lightly covered in butter and lemon mayo, and stuffed into a perfectly buttered roll. It wasn’t soggy and didn’t fall apart. The Chowder Fries were fries smothered with New England Clam Chowder and lots of bacon — tasty combination. We really wanted to try the Clobster(crab and lobster), but they didn’t have it available which we were bummed about.

Not a fan of HB location. Laguna Beach location is more of a fast food than a sit down restaurant compare w the HB. Mostly outdoor seating w only 4 – 5 stools inside. It was a very chilly night and they ran out of clam chowder. So we ordered lobster roll($ 20) market price and fish n chip($ 13 for double). That’s lot of food for 2 to share because they came w large amount of fries. Lobster roll is delicious but I still think it’s not as good as the Lobsta truck and cheaper too($ 13). Fish n chip is good, fish is soft totally cooked to perfection, batter is thin, my only complaint is the batter is still a little greasy to my liking. Fries are good quality but very salty. We ended drinking lot of water. Good place if you want to grab a quick bite in Laguna Beach. Service was very friendly.

Maybe I’m a snob ’cause I lived in New England for 6 years… Or maybe Chinese style lobster has spoiled me, but the lobster had no taste. The fries and stuff bland, the most flavorful item on the plate was the pickle. I am getting over a cold so my palette may be off. The texture was right I wanted to love it comments from others nearby, they agreed not so yummy. Location is great !!! Lunch for 2 $ 50.00! Rather disappointed.

A great lunch spot! We went to Slapfish twice during our visit to the Laguna Beach area. After trying the ultimate fish taco, we just had to come back and have it again. The ultimate fish taco is like fish taco on steroid: for $ 6, the portion is HUGE and definitely enough for a light meal. You might want to add a side of the creamy clam chowder(a cup is only $ 3.50!) for a heartier meal. We got the grilled fish taco, which was very flavorful and because it’s grilled, it tasted lighter and healthier, although I’m sure the fried fish taco was just equally delicious(if not more so). The clam chowder is super creamy and topped with thick pieces of REAL bacon, none of that bacon crumble stuff. I only found one piece of potato in my clam chowder, which was GREAT because that means the rest was all clam and bacon. They also make their own hot sauces and they have a variety of hot sauces(including dear old sriracha) at the condiments bar. There’s a small seating area inside, and a bigger seating area outside(shared with other restaurants within the complex). The staff are always super nice and it doesn’t seem like they got that busy during lunch. We were able to get a table and got our food quickly. Slapfish, please come expand to Seattle soon! :)

We came here 10 min before opening on a Tuesday morning. The joint opened promptly at 11 am and took our order for a Barramundi sandwich, a Lobster roll and grilled Barramundi fish and chips. We also received a complementary chowder toast sprinkled with delicious bacon after checking in on Unilocal. Even though the place has just opened for the day, food preparation was surprisingly quick. All the ingredients were great quality and super fresh. I really liked their fries as well. Now on to the drawbacks: the Barramundi sandwich sadly had very little fish on it. Between the sandwich bum and all of the toppings, I couldn’t even taste the fish in the bite because there was so little fish there. The lobster roll was tiny and nothing to write home about. I appreciated the challah bread it was made on as well as the chowder toast but I’ve had way better lobster from Costco so this Lobster roll was a disappointment. The best dish out of three was the grilled barramundi fish and chips: there was a good amount of fish there that was cooked just right and the fries were fantastic. We ended up making the perfect condiment for the fries out of the awesome cause mixed with ketchup and tapatio. I really appreciate the freshness of ingredients here, the service and the fact that it’s a casual seafood place. It was a lovely experience overall. Oh yeah, one out four stars I’m giving this place is dedicated solely to their pickles. I love pickles and they serve the best pickles I’ve ever tasted in my life.

Slapfish brings redefined, simple, and fresh American seafood that comes straight from the boat and onto your plate. This place will sure give you a slap to your taste buds! DECOR: Slapfish is small, but makes you feel like you are in a tiny shack. There are island seats a long the back wall near the sauce shelves and beverage station. Also, you are welcome to sit outside at the patio area as you enjoy the beach atmosphere. SERVICE: The staff is super friendly as they take your order, but it would be nice if they could come by to ask if your meal was good. The food is served quickly so you do not have to worry about waiting too long. SLAPFISHSIGNATURES: Chowder Fries — the crunchy fries will smother your tongue with creamy clam chowder and bacon. This is the time to let your tongue get all creamed up!(WOOHOO!) Ultimate Fish Taco — crispy fish taco is hugged by the corn tortilla and piled with cabbage, avocado purée, and pickled onion. Each bite you take of the fish taco makes you crave for more and more. Get ready for the flavors of the sauce to spread throughout your mouth!(DROOLS!) Also, you get the option to choose to have your fish grilled or fried. **NOTE: The menu is limited to only a few options, but it makes your life easier to choose from! **NOTE: There’s a hashtag option to get a free lobster toast! Yum! **NOTE: Check out their catering menu! At Slapfish, the seafood is REAL and SUSTAINABLE which makes the food taste so much better. So are you ready for your palates to get slapped? If so, then head on over to Laguna Beach so you can enjoy a modern seafood snack! As always, NOMFORLIFE!
