I was a client of Transitions years ago then I moved to another hair salon. I regretted the change so I came back to the place that does the best hair care, color and cut I have found. Betty and Bernard are the best around.

They hooked up my wife. She looking really sexy! Betty took her time with her. She really focuses on her clients at hand. Great place. Super clean!

I am a proud client of Betty and Bernard from Transitions for 20 years! Their knowledge and skill in cutting and coloring hair is fantastic. After all these years, I have NEVER had a bad color or cut from them. This is also why my sister in law would travel all the way from Texas and London to get her hair cut from them while living abroad. After this November, I will be relocated to Boston, but when I plan to come back every few months, I shall book a haircut and color appointment with them! They are worth it(their prices are very reasonable too).

I too have been a client, well since the late 70’s. Started with Bernard on Grant Avenue in SF. Been through many styles, colors, perms, you name it, I’ve always been very happy with the way I look when I walk out the door. Betty has done a great job with the gift shop part of the business, I could spend hours browsing and poking around. Bernard and Betty both know their ‘stuff’, and I trust their judgment. Oh, and I am ALWAYS getting compliments on my haircuts…

Well, I can’t say enough good things about Transitions. I have been a client for over 30 years(yep!) — First in SF where they started and then I ‘followed’ them to Lafayette. In fact, when I lived up in Folsom, I still drove down to Transitions for my hair cuts/color. Bernard is a perfectionist who knows how to work with each individual’s hair. He cuts based on how the hair will lie vs. just cutting a popular style. The result is that I have gotten compliments from friends as well as complete strangers for years. He also knows his colors. While Bernard is my primary stylist, Betty is extremely talented as well and works with her clients to ensure their cuts/color meet their lifestyles. As a bonus, the shop has gifts up front that include unique jewelry and fun pick-me-ups. Well deserved 5 stars for Transitions!

5 Star… consult, color and cut. The Transition Team represents quality in all they do. You will look better and always feel that you have received excellent value from this shop. One additional measure of quality is by the repeat clientele that return month after month and year over year. I strongly recommend Transitions.

Overall, I was disappointed with my color and cut. Pros: Reasonable prices; good ideas of flattering ways to wear hair; no pressure to add services or buy hair products, good location, and friendly hair assistant. Cons: Color touch up was too light and neither Betty nor Bernard cared that there was a very visible line(showing new growth) pointed out at the time of the service; hair cut was not even, with one side being longer than the other; and Bernard’s brusque manner.

Some of the nicest best people I know. They have been in business(as hubby and wife) for so many years they have really perfected their art. You can trust you will walk out with a great hair cut/color/etc. Not to mention, the gift shop that Betty runs in the front of the Salon is so unique and interesting I can spend hours in it. Packed with original gifts and fun items, not your boring all run-of-the-mill cards and gifts. This is a great place for all ages! Support your local business!

I love this place. Not only can I get a unique and wonderful gift I get a great haircut. Just today I found a beautiful french linen table cover for my mother as a birthday gift as well as a greeting card that seemed to be written for her. The greeting cards are anything but Hallmark, I love them. They may not be for everyone, so «just don’t look» at them. So today is a great day, I have a beautiful new haircut and a wonderful gift that I know my mother will love.

I thought today was going to be a wonderful day. The sky was blue, the air crisp, and we — my husband, my little son and I — were taking a nice walk in Lafayette downtown. It indeed seemed the perfect day until my eyes caught sight of some colorful cards of saints displayed in Transitions’s window. I stopped thinking«How nice that they sell religious items here, I love saints! «As I got closer to get a better view of the cards, my just-found-a-candy smile turned into a sour mix of mortification and pain: the(NobleWorks) card was displaying a nun, who looked just like St. Therese of Lisieux,(an amazing young Saint and Doctor of the Catholic Church) with some very vulgar comments and the label«Saint Bitch» over her head… I remained speechless for a few seconds and with horror I realized that all the cards were blasphemous and offensive to my faith. I am Catholic and I left the store hurt and mortified. It is unacceptable for a store offering services to the general public to openly display such religious offense. If someone can offend our Saints like this, I do not think we have moved past the time of Hitler when Jews were publicly insulted and ostracized even culturally… Religious Freedom should not justify Religious persecution.
