Overall great experience. Good ambiance, was sat at a booth right by their fireplace. Good date night location if you’re willing to spend a little more. Had the calamari which was excellent! Lightly fried with an aioli sauce, not chewy at all. We ordered the porterhouse and a New York strip, both cooked very nicely. The table side salad is also very fun. Their Hawaiian Punch cocktail was delicious.

Sometimes great. Sometimes awful. I stopped going because of unmet expectations and inconsistency. I know what I get at the chains isn’t as «high class/quality» but at least I can count on consistency – and a better price.

Driving from Chicago to Indy, this was a great dinner stop. Cozy and comfortable, with a relatable server. The food was good, not stellar, but nothing specifically negative. I would return if in the area.

Stopped here on the way to Indianapolis. Of the highway by low budget hotels BUT food was great! Highly recommended…

My wife and I(from northeast Illinois) met good friends of ours from Kentucky in Lafayette IN. for an overnight visit. We decided to have dinner at Mountain Jack’s and arrived around 8pm. I had the bone-in prime rib and it was beyond great. I like it rare and it was perfect, the flavor was fantastic. Great Prime Rib! Both wive’s ordered the filet mignon and each raved about their meals. My friend ordered the NY Strip and he also raved about the meal. They have a table side salad bar which is unique. The service was very attentive There is a reason this restaurant rates well.

Atmosphere was pleasant. Steak flavor was good, but way under cooked. Steamed vegetables were hard and barely cooked. Salad was fresh. Deserts were poor. Better deserts at Walmart bakery. Service was about C– to D+ level. Way, way too expensive. Don’t ever plan to return.

Avoid if you can. the table side salad and potato skins were the best parts of the meal. Unseasoned filet and barely warm mashed potatoes that we waited for almost 2 hours. at least the shrimp scampi was tolerable. Hot water for tea to go came with gross stuff floating in it.

Best seafood linguini I’ve had in a long time. Great steak. Early bird dinner has same entrees but much lower prices. 5:00 to 6.00 pm. Service excellent

First time there last Fri for pre-wedding dinner, w/9 others. Had the prime rib, & it looked good, but had absolutely NOBEEFFLAVOR — none! Just a hint of mild seasonings; may as well have been eating tofu. I love a good piece of beef, so this was really disappointing, esp considering it’s their calling card. As for the rest, I had: Crispy onion strings: wonderful Garlic mashed potatoes: OK, but not much garlic Table-side salad: yummy! Since we were a big party, our waitress just put 2 of the salad wheels right on the table, so we probably got more than is usual. Ranch dressing was very good; all ingreds very fresh. Chocolate mousse pie: really good, but esp the dense chocolate cookie crust. Our waitress was superb — very attentive, explained everything, answered all our questions, suggested a wine that was really good. Such a shame that the very thing they’re known for was pointless.

This is my destination restaurant in Lafayette! The Spicy Shrimp appetizer, The table side salad service and the Prime Rib on the bone make it a meal worth coming for!

There is no question in Lafayette if you want to eat special food and be treated like you are an important person, Mountain Jack’s is still a top consideration. However, I get the impression that lately they are resting on their laurels. They used to pride themselves on offering a fresh fish of the day. We were there for Mothers’s Day & I wanted the walleye until I found out it was farmed. Eww! There was also a ridiculous wait even with a reservation because evidently the dish washer was broken. However, we «settled» for the prime rib which was spectacular, as usual.

Horrible service and the restaurant is freezing cold. The waitress interrupts and talks to us like we’re children. We may be old… but we’re not stupid. Lose the squeaky pre-school teacher voice and you’ll get a decent tip.

Had a great experience here last night. The atmosphere is very cozy, a great place to take your date. Service was very friendly and reasonably prompt. I was impressed by the server’s apparent excitement about the menu. I had the NY Strip and my girlfriend had the prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The prime rib was exceptional with a rich, herby flavor. For dessert we had a classic crème brûlée which was very tasty. Only reason for four stars is a couple missteps: My steamed broccoli was served cold and I did not receive the mushrooms that I ordered with my steak. I am sure they would have happily remedied these errors upon request, but I was too impatient to eat!

This Mountain Jack’s location is the only one left anywhere. The manager of the store loved the concept so much that he bought it for himself and for his customers. Everything is done very well at Mountain Jack’s. The produce and toppings for the table-side salad are always very fresh. The sides are also freshly prepared and well presented. The seasoning on the prime rib is perfect. They slow-roast their prime rib bone-in, and you can choose from three different sides. I have not been displease with anything I have ordered from Mountain Jack’s in the whole time I have visited the Lafayette store. The ambiance is very warm and inviting with several fireplaces in the restaurant. There is a cloak room adjacent to the bathrooms that has an attendant at least some of the time. Their servers are professionally dressed and attentive. Parking is ample, though you may have to park in the back. Mountain Jack’s is the perfect spot for any occasion. They have private dining rooms for rehearsal dinners, bar seating for a more casual visit, secluded booths for more intimate dinners, and is a destination for many prom goers and other special events.

Suspicious of a chainy look, but encouraged by reviews, we checked out Mountain Jack in the way from Chicago. Freshly spoiled by Chicago restaurants, did not have spectacular expectations, but we were impressed by very solid fresh food and quality of service. The table-side salad bar looks like a giant artist’s palette with lettuce in the middle and the choices of trimmings around it(cucumber slices, tomatoes, red cabbage, croutons, mushrooms, cheese, etc). The server makes your salad based on your selections at the table. The house-cut prime rib(1.25 lb) will probably last me 3 meals and is a both delicious and a good value. Wild rice pilaf had very few grains of wild rice sprinkled through its white cousin, but the green beans were impressively not over-cooked. Maybe next time we will pace ourselves better and leave room for the tempting-looking carrot cake.

I give it a 10, a 10, I said a 10!!! Hands down the best steaks in the greater Lafayette area. I repeat all of the positive reviews before and would encourage all of the negatives to try it again.

Beat thing is the good food and nice quality of the steak. One bad thing is the chef walk around and ask about the opinions from other customers so nicely but avoid me, since I’m the only one Asian customer there? I paid 60 bucks for the dinner and extra 15 for the tips!

Mountain Jack’s used to be a chain, this ‘Last of the Mohicans’ location has a rustic exterior and throw-back interior, but is not dated when it comes to the menu. They house-cut their salmon filets, and do a great job preparing them. Good size portion with choice of seasonal fresh sides, and traditional offerings. I started with the Caesar Salad — which was excellent — and got fresh green beans and steamed broccoli, both cooked just right. I had an outstanding meal here, and finished with a choice from their able selection of whiskies. I recommend giving Mountain Jack’s a try!
