Jax Outdoor Gear

Must admit… not quite a McGuckin hardware… but very helpful anytime you seek help… and occasionally w/​out asking for assistance.

Personally I like the «down to earth» shopping vibe that is missing at other mega outdoor recreation stores. The local Fort Collin’s roots run deep here. They have preserved the «country» in their outdoor stores and for this I am thankful. From the humble, warm and friendly customer service to the vast, but not overwhelming, products that they carry, it all fits just right; like your favorite pair of cowboy boots. They are the first people I call to set a side some ammo for me to pick up before a hunt or to ask for expert help regarding poor arrow groupings. I’m from Boulder and I have easy access to plenty of other outdoor recreation stores but I choose this one. And I can’t end this review without noting that their employment program for veterans is something to admire.

My son and I went in the store to get some surplus supply and Will helped us out so much. He really knows his stuff and knows GREAT customer service!

Disappointed in the bike shop. Bought a bike here, 6 days later the rear dérailleur falls off. The guy in the shop tells me I must’ve hit something, despite no evidence of impact (I didn’t hit anything).I plead for them to work w/​me, he cuts me a modest deal on a new dérailleur, ok not ideal but I take it. Fast forward to the 30 day tuneup (they offer 30&90 day tune ups w/​purchase), take the bike in, 3 days later I get it back and it was essentially just cleaned. The rear brake cable is still stretched, I bring it back to point this out and am told that cable has been cut cause the set screw was tightened too much. Ok, they put the thing together, seems like they should fix the cable… nope I gotta buy a new cable… Which I will cause I want a functioning bike, however not from Jax. They will not see another dime from me.

the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the products they carry are good quality. i go in for a specific item thinking i’m going to get out fast and then cant help but browse for another half hour at so many other interesting things.

while driving home from work one day, I found myself in midst a snow storm. I left early, but unfortunately for me alot of other people had that same idea. As I was almost home the traffic came to crawl and then to a gridlocked stop. I decided to pull out of traffic and into a shopping center and looked in this store, Ive been in this store before when it first opened and noticed that it mainly stocked highly expensive hunting, fishing and camping gear and clothing, to which I have little to no interest. Well, it just so happens that they remodeled part of the store into a bike shop with a service area. The prices on the bikes seemed to be reasonable and the clerk was friendly and helpful. After 3 hours of waiting for the traffic to die down I finally was able to make my way home only to see that the cause of the traffic jam was a small out of state car broke down in the middle of the street.

Great camping and shooting selection, and a pretty decent selection of pocketknives, all considered. Their winter coat selection is a bit lacking, but aside from that, it’s basically REI without the pretense.
Highly recommended!

Jax is a great source for hunting and fishing gear. You can buy other sporting goods here, such as running shoes, but there are so many specialty stores that offer a wider range of product. However, if you need archery targets, ammo, cleaning supplies, or similar items for the outdoorsman, I can’t think of anywhere else in Boulder County where you can find an equal selection.
My visit here was fruitful, I was able to find most of what I needed, and was able to quickly get help to find the rest. I’d driven by this store dozens of times and had no idea it was so well stocked. I will be back.

I purchased a pair of dog snowboots from Jax. I took my dog to hunt with them in South Dakota, and it was immediately apparent that the snow was too deep for the boots. I had wrapped his legs in equine tape to try and help secure them, but it was a futile effort in such deep snow. The boots stayed on less than 15 seconds.
Jax let me return them, no questions asked. As has been the case every time I have gone to the store, the staff was friendly and very helpful. I love this place, and though these boots for my dog did not work out I will definitely be coming here for any other need I have.

Bought a $ 70.00 metal detector to find my wedding ring and was told that I could return it once I was done with it. Nope! Manager wanted to give me $ 25 in store credit because of a few scuff marks on the detector area.
Looks like eBay, REI, True Value will be gaining my future business.
Anyone want to buy a gently used metal detector??? I have the receipt and everything, JAX doesn’t want it or my business.

I don’t always find what I want here, but the staff is amazing. So glad to have this store in Lafayette.

We usually head to Jax out of convenience… But after a recent trip to Cabellas, we realized that Jax has a better selection and cheaper too. Very happy that our local store is the best!

Across the street is Jax Farm and Ranch. I took my Honda mower for repair as they are a Honda authorized service center and closest to my home. Still a 20 minute drive, but they should know what was wrong. They said they would look it over and give me a call when they determined exactly what was wrong. Two WEEKS later I called to see what was going on. They said they just received the parts and it would be ready the following afternoon. I came in and picked up my mower. Two parts and $ 80 later I took it home. When I unloaded the mower I immediately saw they hadn’t fixed the issue. The dead man lever was flopping back and forth. And it wouldn’t stay engaged. The exact reason i took it in. Another 20 minute drive and they said they would call me in the morning. Yeah right. Another week passes, now over three weeks since i took it in and its finally fixed. For another $ 30. Doing some research on line, I found that the problem I was having was fixed by a Honda ‘upgrade’ they were providing for FREE for my model/​year. Jax svc center weren’t even aware of it. No apologies for taking so long, for not calling to update, nothing. Service guys were Skip and some other guy that bickered between themselves and with customers. Extremely poor customer service. I find it quite odd that the cashiers in front were helpful and very courteous. Night and day from their service center. This is the first and last time I will visit this store!

This is my new go to store for all things outdoors. There selection of quality product is what got me in there the first few times. And the customer service will keep me comming back from now on.
I recently had an issue with a pair of hiking shoes that I bought this past summer. The team of associates jumped right into action. They were on the phone with the manufacturer before I knew it and the situation was fixed and I was out the door in like 30 minutes. Thank you Jax. You have earned my confidence and my future business.

Trying to find another establishment in this part of neighborhood we came across Jax Outdoor Gear. Since this is the first time I was there, with A. W April 29^th 2012, I feel its a small version of REI that I am used to. The prices are slightly higher on certain items. Perhaps it will be sufficient for other customers who do not wish to drive to REI and perhaps Jax Outdoor Gear can run REI for its money at this location.
Since I am unfamiliar with Jax Outdoor Gear, I googled their website, and found out there are 6 Jax Outdoor Gear here in the USA, in which 5 of them are located NORTH of Denver, areas such as Fort Collins, Lafayette and Loveland. 1 of which is located at Ames, Iowa. Not a huge fan of this place. It is very expensive and I have had really bad service there too. There is just a weird vibe in that place.

This place is Home Depot meets REI meets Cabella’s. Have I died and gone to heaven?

They literally have everything you don’t want and nothing you actually need. Kidding aside, it is a really cool store. Really random assortment of gear, tools, and knick knacks. The service is top notch as well. I went in once to get a map for a snowshoeing trip and a staff member sat with me for a while telling his favorite places and helped my route out our trip.

Great place for Christmas shopping too!

Imagine, a place that actually exists that combines the fashion and coolness of REI (without the Northface-​sporting, suburu-​driving fart smellers) with the selection and cheapness of an Army Surplus Store (without the neo-​nazi militia staring you down).
This is my new favorite place. Yeah boy. If you love the outdoors but hate the annoying extreme personalities that it produces, then this place is perfect for you. But if you you are one of those people who needs a starbucks in your outdoor store, you should probably stay at the one you currently frequent. Please. Yes I’m so impressed that your trust fund allows you to travel around the world and get your adrenaline fix, but I just don’t want to hear about it anymore.
At last, an outdoor store for normal people!

I like this store better than REI or Dicks for practical good quality clothing and shoes. They have fun stuff you didn’t know you needed like a Jeep or a motor-​bike + sidecar! They have dog-​socks for a puppy to wear inside his dog-​boots. The staff are very helpful.
