I’m sad to have written this after the place closed down; I’m actually still in disbelief. Hahaha I’m pretty sure I ate there on their last day because when I went to post photos of my meal it actually said Business Closed. I thought to myself no waaaaaayyyy. Haha but anyways I hope to see this business thrive somewhere else. It’s rumors to have been the 3rd Mexican restaurant in that location and was the 3rd to fail. I guess that saying 3rd times the charm didn’t work well for them. Let’s see how the fourth restaurant turns out. They had great deals running every single day. Everyday had a featured taco for $ 1.25 and with four of them, you will be set! Each order comes with a side of tortilla chips with a salsa bar at the back of the restaurant. A fully loaded salsa bar!!! Now why they would close that down is beyond me! The staff is really cool, friendly and helpful. If rot like I was at my Mexican friend’s mom house the way they treated me. Tip: the chicken nachos is big enough to split into two separate entrees.

Came here for some taco Tuesday. This is the second time I came here from the last time they messed up my order. Last time I was taking it to go they gave me a bag with half of my order of Carne asada missing. BUT, Thought I give it another try. The sign specifically said it was open with their flashing open glowing neon light outside. Walking in the restaurant were, there were still multiple groups of people sitting at tables. As I approach the counter, the bald cashier person said kitchen’s closed. Wait… what? It’s 8:30pm! And then you tell me you were closed since 8. Your sign said open, your Unilocal hours of operation said close at 9 on Tuesday. So now I know you’re lying to me. If you ran out of food you would say something, but nope you didn’t say anything. So here’s your one star. Absorb it. Because you won’t be seeing me at this place again.

Great ambiance, great food, great service. Food was fresh and tasty, and was hands down the best Mexican food I’ve had. I highly recommend this place to everyone!

Everything we had was delicious and beautiful! From the chile relleno, to the tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, and finally the Chocoflan. Wondering presentation and delicious. — Camp Chicks

Not good and definitely not authentic. Salty does not equal tasty. Salty equals salty. The guacamole is possibly from Taco Bell. Carne Asada was meh. The black refried beans were pasty and salty. The charro beans tasted like doctored up Sun Vistas. My husband had a chicken burrito bowl and could not eat it. Why? Because it was too salty!

This is based on a one time visit with a certificate. We were a party of 5(3 adults and 2 kids) for lunch around 1:30 on a Sunday. We were not greeted immediately, but then I realized that this is a seat yourself type establishment, so the greeting is usually at the register where you place your order. Anyway. I have several dietary restrictions, and the gentleman at the counter had no trouble explaining the menu items I was interested in to me, and accommodating my needs. He was also happy to make menu recommendations as well. We ordered: — guacamole(ours seemed very fresh and seasoned well enough(I personally prefer a bit more zip, but that’s a personal preference) — a nice big cheese quesadilla for the kids to share(plenty!), — a side order of chicken flautas(generous serving and very yummy, so I was told), — 2 quecas(This was a new item for us. We ordered the carne asada with cheese and a chili verde no cheese. I was not able to sample of the carne asada, but the gentleman mentioned that it tends to be a bit dry which was confirmed by the person who ate it; but was delicious none the less! I had the latter and was very pleased! Delicious!) — an order of the birria(this was hardly touched at the restaurant because we were so full from the quecas and guacamole! It made wonderful dinner leftovers for 2 people and were absolutely delicious! Even the rice and beans were well seasoned and cooked properly. That’s hard to find). — salsas and other accompanyments were all prepared well and seasoned just right for us. We enjoyed the medium and mild salsas, as well as the pico de gallo and pickled carrots. Everything seemed fresh and flavorful. No one had the chance to try the hot salsa, but I will next time. — Portions were VERY generous. I am a person who usually adds salt to everything since so many restaurants under salt the food, but everything here was flavorful enough in my book. Several times the wait staff came by and offered us more chips, gave us extra plates, and answered any questions we had. I used to live in East L.A., and it’s been so sad for me to not have access to decent Mexican food. I’ve been to several recommended establishments in the areas surrounding La Verne and the IE, but this was so surprising to us! Right in downtown La Verne of all places. I had resorted to making everything myself at home since you can’t get that home cooked taste out unless you go to a hole in the wall place(which is fine, there just aren’t any near me!). So, we are so pleased to have found Sabor A Mi(by the way, I love the name! Great song, and so apt for a restaurant name). Oh, and before I forget, fantastic guitar player! Really beautiful music, which was another unexpected treat :) We’ll be back soon!

This is a great place. Loved the ambiance. We came for lunch and it was quiet. The tables and floors were clean. The building was warm and inviting. It was modern but still had a feeling of what old family restaurants felt like. The walls are adorned with the Geckos found throughout the Yucatan and Baja California, beautiful paintings that portray life in old Mexico cities, and modern day. The design is fabulous. The signage is very clear, even for the least proficient of Spanish speakers. I thoroughly enjoyed the Spanish music playing, the Spanish speaker servers(and their attention to our needs) and all the flavors of Horchata. I appreciate the food as well, having grown up with a plethora of Spanish, Mexican, Salvadorian and other Latin friends. I really appreciate the flavor profile here: how a simple burrito can be so dynamic and hide a punch. I highly recommend this restaurant. We’ll be back soon.

Again what a let down. I decided to give this place one final shot. They got my burrito order right this time but it just wasn’t good. Very plain. So disappointed…

I can’t believe it… This may be the first«authentic» Mexican restaurant in La Verne. I loved the food here. It really tasted like my homemade recipes. The star of the night was the Carne en su Jugo(translated meat cooked in it’s juices) NAILEDIT! It was amazing… It had the right balance of beans, bacon and garnish. The only thing missing was the avocado… but the flavor was on point. I’ll DEFINATELY be going back for this. Now, what drew us in was the $ 1 Potato Taco sign(every day is a different $ 1 item– and I plan to try each) the potato taco was good… they did not skimp on the food. It was stuffed with potato and all the fixings, just like mom used to make. And lastly, the Shrimp Tacos… My friend had them and although I didn’t try them, they looked great and smelled delicious. My friend said, «they’re a definite do over!» So there it is… You gotta try this place. The host/server named Cristian was very nice and friendly and informative, plus it’s rated«A». Happy eating!

Cute little restaurant in downtown La Verne with really good food! I had the quecas which I’ve never heard of before, but the description called them Mexican empanadas and since I’ve never met an empanada I didn’t like, I knew I had to try it! You get to choose your filling(I picked chile verde and carne asada) and the plate comes with rice, beans and two huge quecas. Seriously, consider sharing with someone else because it is a ton of food! I really enjoyed them, although I had to beg my mom to abandon her burrito and help me finish my food. I also tried the fish tacos which were super crispy and battered in a slightly sweet, almost cornbread type batter. I’ve been craving fish tacos and I think they would have really hit the spot! The service was really friendly and on Sunday at lunch time they even had a guy singing and playing guitar. I’ll be back because I need to try the fried potato taco!

:sigh: I don’t know what happened. We were at a point where my in-laws were willing to drive up from Anaheim to have their delicious food. Then it seemed we were never able to eat there again. With the in-laws, I looked up their hours online to confirm they were open. Turned out the info I got online wasn’t current. I let them know that there was old info out there so they could be aware and get it updated. Instead, I was brought a to-go menu as if to prove their hours, as if I was trying to get them to open up again. But not a huge deal. Tried to go another time, and they were closed due to broken A/C. Totally get that, with the awful summer we had. Tried to go this evening because we got a Groupon that expires, and made sure to go well before they’re closing time. And they were closed. Other neon signs were on, and saw staff inside, but the«open» sign was turned off. Drove to the parking lot behind the building to turn around and go home, and we saw some employees just outside the back door dropping and pounding on tables, seemingly not wanting to touch them. It looked like they were dealing with something, and we figured it was probably a good idea to just take the Groupon loss. I’ve never had such bad luck with a restaurant. I saw another review that said the food really took a dive. Honestly, I’d be willing to give them another shot if I could just get into the place, because I still remember the food being quite excellent.

I must say there food was authentic and tasty. Today we were surprised with $ 1 sope day! We had a variety of dishes; guacamole & chips, chiles from the fully stocked chili bar, the ahogado burrito de carne asada, the cheese enchilada plate with black beans, a chicken sope and the rice pudding chimichanga to end our meal. All the entrées were filled with delicious Latino flavors. I had high yexpectations since the restaurant was recommended and not one thing was disappointing. The dishes were not overloaded with grease or lard. Everything taste like it was made from the Corazon of your abuelitas kitchen. I reccommend you frequent this little gem. Oh and they had air conditioning!

Automatic 5 stars for full salsa bar! Ok but seriously the food here is on point. Legit. Authentic. They’re located right next to University of La Verne. We happened to visit the place during the Farmers Market they had going on there, but the restaurant itself was pretty busy. I used my Groupon with no problem. — Burrito ahogado with carne asada. Burrito topped with red salsa(wet burrito) served with a side of rice and beans. The carne asada pieces are pretty thick but still very tender. — Nachos with chicken. Colorful nachos chips topped with pico de gallo, cheese, beans, avocado, sour cream, and shredded chicken. Good for sharing. You do get a free side of nachos for munching. But the real star of the place? Fully stocked salsa bar and self serve soft drinks, including horchata and orange bang. 4 different salsas: red, green, chipotle based, and pico de gallo. Sides: Pickled carrots, jalapeños, and limes.

My favorite Mexican dish is Chile relleno but I never buy them from a restaurant as I am always disappointed. I took a chance since it was the monthly special and I was so glad I did. I have no idea what the sauce is but its more orange in color and the depth is beyond words. The Chile was perfectly fried and wasn’t a chile that’s reheated when you order, it was clearly made just for me. It came with rice and beans although I didn’t think it needed the side dishes they were almost equally amazing. The main person that took our order was so friendly and upon more conversation brought me a sample of their mole sauce. Again, I would order that. Very rich but with a homemade taste. Not overly sweet and with a touch of heat. We learned that on Tuesday tacos are discounted pricing. Thursday there is live music of some sort(guitar I think). Also, seafood is being added to menu soon.

This place is just AMAZING! 100% AUTHENTIC Mexican cuisine. Idk what that guy Garrett is talking about, paid reviews? Ugh no! Sorry I think YOUR taste buds suck people like you dont know authentic mexican food and confuse Taco bell as authentic… ANYWAYS in continuation with this«fake» review. Everything is fresh and made here, my mouth its even watering thinking about it. My husband and I found the Groupon to this place and it was money well spent. LOCATION: Downtown La Verne PARKING: Plenty of Parking all around and best of all FREE. CLEANLINESS: Very Clean and no stench when you walk in. SERVICE: SPECTACULAR! a friendly young man was patient enough to explain the menu, popular items and portion sizes. Always on top of everything. PRICES: Reasonable for the amount of food you get I’d say $ 8+ FOOD: Where do I start? By far, now one of my favorite little hidden gems. We ordered the mogo mogo as an ap. And it was fresh and tasty. As entrees I ordered the quecas with mole and the other birria. My husband the wet burrito which is MASSIVE. My boys got the kids meals(off the menu) one chose the sopes, served with rice and beans and a churro. My other son got the taquitos with rice and beans and a churro. Going back to my meal the quecas are crispy and empanada like. The mole was delicious and the chicken moist and clean no tendons or chewy stuff, mole is made there from scratch the birria as well was goooood. My husband raved about how delicious and clean the carne asada was and quite tasty, the wet burrito was so big he couldn’t finish it. My kids are pretty picky but they ate all their food. DESSERT was soooooo good, we ordered the arroz con leche chimichanga and that was heaven on a plate, that thing is a meal in itself no kidding its HUGE and after a hearty meal this thing is eternal. Its a fried goodness with rice pudding filling with a side of ice cream and under cajeta(Mexican caramel) took me back to when my abuelita use to bring us some from mexico as kids. We went as brazil played the world cup, they have 2BIG tvs and enjoyed the game while we ate. All in all this place is far from mediocre mexican cuisine. Everything is authentic and delicious I cannot wait until I return again. One thing I do suggest is turning up the ac. It was a TAD bit warm, but it could’ve been that it was 104 outside so I don’t hold it against them.

Tried this place on a Tuesday. Turns out they offer taco tuesday. Dollar tacos and 8 meats to choose from. I had chicken mole, pastor, and Chile verde. All were tasty. Small street tacos pretty good for $ 1 they bring chips to your table and have a salsa bar. Free refill and I’m a fan of any place still serving orange soda. Atmosphere, casual. Spanish music playing. They have a few beers on tap and bottled beer as well. I hope this place thrives. I’ll be back for more.

Just tried ordering from this place and was put on hold for 10 minutes I’ve been calling for the past 10 minutes and I still cannot get my orders through or have someone pick up the phone. This is ridiculous for a first time customer! I’m going of Unilocal reviews this place sucks on their Customer Service.

Nice décor and good food! There were not much vegetarian options to choose from, since I asked the 2 employees working there to give me suggestions, and they really didn’t help much, but it’s understandable. I ending up choosing the 3 cheese enchilada plate. I asked if they could put some veggies inside(wanted to be healthy!), but they said they couldn’t, which was disappointing. And they don’t have any veggie burritos either. But I made do, and surprisingly, for a plain cheese enchilada, the sauce was really good and the flavor was great! I also got the black beans which was delicious! The rice was good too, although others at my table mentioned that the rice was overcooked(really soft and mushy), maybe a bad batch? Salsa bar has a good selection of different options. The green salsa and pico de gallo were both great and tasted fresh. Guacamole and chips tasted great as well! Overall it was a nice place, might consider it again, but with minimal healthy vegetarian options, I might pass. ULV Students: Show your school I.D. and you get a 10% discount!

Quick rant: These people named EG and Kim Y. need to stay out of down town la Verne and go to the hood in Pomona if they want some cheap food(ghetto broke ass kids pshh). Better yet stay home and eat some cheap 10 cent ramen noodle packets. People read Unilocal to see actual reviews about food, quality, customer service, etc; not to read about how cheap you guys are. End of Rant. Food review: First of all, their prices are very good compared to other Mexican joints around town but the area that sabor really shines in is their quality of food and excellent customer service. Today I tried my first«wet burrito» w/carne asada, red/green sauce. The meat was perfectly grilled and had a very satisfying taste(awesome seasoning). My burrito was ginormous(see picture: I had to use my «big blade» to cut this puppy, no plastic knife here). My favorite part about this burrito was the attention to detail. Most places just stuff the insides and call it a day. Sabor actually lined my entire burrito with refried black beans. I rarely see this, and it’s important to me because when I get to the end of the burrito I hate just eating flour tortilla. Inside: The remodel job is excellent. Everything is sparkling new and the restaurant itself is well ventilated. On the side of the cashier the have a salsa bar with a good selection salsas and those carrot/jalapeño things. Service: Excellent to say the least. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The cashier answered questions thoroughly and made this interaction a positive one. Final words: I’m tired of people giving fake reviews and bashing a business just to be a dick. If you want a well priced, great tasting, Mexican restaurant in down town la Verne then give sabor a try. I will be posting a update in the future to see if they maintain their level of excellence. Good job sabor! Thank you for coming to la Verne and for giving me a spot to satisfy my Mexican food cravings when I come over to visit.
