Mayer Dean MD

Dr. Dean Mayer, who is affiliated with Sharp HealthCare, is Board-​certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine. He graduated from UCSD Medical School in 1997; he did his internship and residency at Baylor College of Medicine; and he was a Fellow in Rheumatology at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.

About my experience with Dr. Mayer:
As his patient of several years, I have found the Doctor to be pleasant and genial, and if I didn’t know Dr. Mayer professionally, I’d hope to meet him socially; his good humor and broad-​ranging interests combine in an engaging personality.
That being said, Dr. Mayer, an accomplished rheumatologist with a consultative approach to the practice of his specialty, treats my arthritic knees with cortisone and hyaluronan injections. The condition is degenerative and will not improve over time, and the treatment is intended to relieve pain, which it has done to a reasonable extent.
In addition to providing injections, Dr. Mayer has helped me understand measures I can take to slow the loss of bone and to prepare for knee replacement, which is indicated in my case. He is supportive of my weight loss régime, and has recommended exercises and therapies I can use to stay ahead of my condition.
