Maggie is awesome and so is the other woman who runs the shop but her name escapes me. I always love the fun candies and treats available. Ginger beer is tasty as is the Kinder brand Happy Hippos. Anything Kinder makes my mouth water and I highly recommend it if you like any hazelnut chocolate spread.

Fabulous small British gift shop! Stopped by over the weekend during Oktoberfest and ended up buying a huge bag of snacks and food. They have a huge assortment of British candies, including Cadbury! I picked up some jelly babies for a wedding gift for a friend who had a doctor who themed wedding. They also had savory snacks — picked up some Guinness potato chips which taste like the beer! So good! They had a second room with lots of British gift items. Will have to come back to get some Guinness themed items for my husband’s bday. They also had frozen pot pies — from their other shop that has a restaurant. I bought two — meat/beer and mushroom/port — both were fantastic!!! Everyone in the shop was super nice and helpful. Will definitely be back for more delicious treats!

A nice little gift shop of British proportions. I have only bought take and bake foods here. Some seem expensive, but are filling and really tasty. Chicken and mushroom pot pies, curry vegetable pasties, cornish hen pies, shepherds pie, etc. They don’t even taste like they are frozen. Give it a try when you don’t feel like making a dinner from scratch.

I’m a fan of any place with a great tag line, and this little shoppe has got one: Keep Calm the British are Here. It’s no secret amongst my friends that I love British snacks and food products. I really got a kick out of this shoppe. They carry a lot of products you don’t see in other stores. They don’t just have edibles though, there are gifts and novelty items as well. We were greeted immediately upon entering by the loveliest woman you could possibly imagine. She was very helpful and friendly. My son wanted a shirt I had photographed from a concert a couple nights earlier, she offered to take my name as they were out of them but ordering more. The shirt, I found out had been gifted to the band by the shoppe owner when they visited the Mission Hills store and had tea there, nice. They have a refrigerated section with imported drinks and clotted cream. Naturally that night I regretted not buying ginger beer. There is also a freezer filled with the most delectable looking pastries! There are sausage rolls that I must try, all sorts of savory pies(including shepherds pie, yum), they even make haggis. Of course there are the sweet pastries too, I’m just very impressed with the selection of savory. It makes me miss my grandmother. If you’re a tea lover they have a good selection of teas here. They also sell tea wares, including cups with the Queen’s face on them. Naturally you’ll be needing some jams to go with that tea. Don’t worry, they’ve got you covered. I saw an impressive selection of flavors, including a couple I hadn’t seen since childhood. And the candy! Oh the candy. We left with candy, and then some. I saw some candies I hadn’t seen in years. My son got a kick out of buying a big box of the wine gums. I’m sure it’s a kid thing. I was more excited about the Guinness chips. They actually do taste like Guinness, but it’s more the after taste. When we checked out we were given a newspaper, very sweet. My son was kind of excited about his«UK newspaper» as he later called it when showing it off. This store is definitely worth a trip for gifts or food items for yourself. Go check it out, it’s pretty fun. If La Mesa is not in your area, look up their other location: Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe & Afternoon Tea. I’m a local so I’m partial to this location :).

Proper British Tea Shoppe and expansion of Selina’s great Shoppe on Washington Street near the Shakespeare Pub. Great selection of British goods, tea, Cadbury, scones, and pasties. Very happy to have this shoppe in La Mesa.

Fun British shop with quite a variety of items. They even have refrigerated items such as Shepard’s Pie. Also have candy, beverages, digestives, tea, other tea items, sauces and canned goods to name a few. Great place to get your British fix!
