For vegan food, it was good but not great but the service is lacking. They were offering burritos and bowls at Moo Shoes in Silver Lake from 12−5pm on a Sunday. My husband and I tried both the burritos. The«bomb» burrito($ 10) — a massive burrito filled with cheesy beans, jambalaya, guacamole, cajun corn, slaw, salsa, and fritos in a flour tortilla. This had a good flavor what with the salsa and jambalaya and beans. The beans had an almost creamy texture that I wouldn’t call cheesy exactly but it was good. I didn’t get much cajun corn in the portions that I ate and in fact didn’t realize that was an ingredient. The«New Orleans» burrito —($ 15) Another massive burrito filled with«Fried Chickun, Mac N Cheeze, Jambalaya, Cajun Tators, Slaw and Special Sauce.» The two biggest complaints I have about this one was the lack of fried«chickun» and the bland taste of the filling. The pieces of fried chicken I had were good but they were few in what was a huge burrito. The slaw was more like just cabbage with relatively little flavor. All in all, what sounded exciting was really a huge mass of under flavored carbs wrapped in more carbs. The mac ‘n cheese was okay but needed salt. And somehow, by the time I got my burrito, it was already only lukewarm. The real complaint I have is the service. We arrived right at noon and the food wasn’t ready; in fact, they were barely setting up. Keep in mind this is food being prepared in a shoe store’s tiny parking lot and the shoe store(a vegan one) is small. The guy in charge kept saying they weren’t ready and apparently didn’t like that we were standing in the back, so he pretty much asked us to leave and come back, saying they would take the burritos to the front and«announce» when they were ready. Well, we were in the store and saw several loads of burritos going to the front, but there was never an announcement. We finally realized that the Bomb ones were being sold, so we bought one of those. A good 40 minutes later the bowls and NO burritos were ready. We ate in the back and I happened to pick up some foil that had blown from their operation. I asked the guy if they had a trash can and he just said no. He didn’t thank me for picking up their trash, or try to be helpful in any way. I ended up throwing it in a bag they had under the table. Then they brought out some hot sauce and when I went to get some, he asked how the burrito was. I was less than enthusiastic, and said it wasn’t mixed very well(a full quarter of the upper half was solely mac ‘n cheese) and then said that I wished there was more chicken, to which he replied that the mac ‘n cheese was«the star of the burrito.» I told him that the sign didn’t make that evident– I mean, it’s called the New Orleans burrito, not the«mac ‘n cheese» burrito. They were also just so disorganized about everything – had to locate forks, the napkins weren’t properly set out, etc. At any rate, the food wasn’t so amazing that I would subject myself to that type of attitude again. It was also expensive. I would have preferred smaller for less cost. The best thing was the bomb burrito and there are tons of burrito places in LA.

Tried them. Expensive and bland. Nothing southern in that vegan food.

They seem to do the best they can with their budget and staff! I respect food stands and food trucks because this type of work is hard and risky! That being said, I would love to support this business again! The plates themselves cost a lot for the portion that we got, but they’re a small little place. I paid $ 10 for a small piece of «chicken,» a small piece of waffle, and some«Cajun» tater tots. They also had a build your own plate for $ 15. Their vegan fried chicken is delicious. The texture of the soy meat is as expected, and the breading is definitely reminiscent of fried chicken. Waffle was okay. I think I’d order without it next time because I didn’t finish my small piece of waffle, but I wanted more vegan fried chicken! Tots were good and crisp! I can’t wait to try their other foods next time. I saw lots of people ordering their mac n cheese and it looked delicious! Overall, so happy this business exists! There aren’t really vegan southern options usually. Their vegan fried chicken is definitely worth a try, I’m gonna order way more of that next time I see them at a vegan event.

Had their food a couple of times. It’s solid chubby vegan faire. I’ve had better, but granted this comes out of a truck where the other southern foods I’ve had have been out of a restaurant. Large portions, so you get your moneys worth. Obviously not the healthiest of vegan food, but hey, even vegans have to live a little.

I’m so glad that this place is not located anywhere near San Francisco. It was a real train wreck. I visited their stand at the SF Vegan Beer & Food Festival. First of all, $ 15 for the tiny portions they were dishing out at 3pm was a joke. Every other food stand had prices ranging from $ 3 to $ 10. This place was the most expensive, and the quality of food did not live up to that. The real problem was the service. They lost my ticket and could not find it anywhere. I stood around waiting for almost 30 minutes before I asked them what was going on. Everyone around me had gotten their order. Even people who had ordered 10 minutes after me had gotten their food. I suppose it was partially my fault. I was aware of the long wait times during food festivals and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Even so, I was standing a foot away from the pick-up window the entire time. They should have shown some initiative and asked me what I was waiting on. They ran out of both the mac ‘n cheese and greens, two of the items I had wanted in my bowl. They did not offer to make any more, and instead tried to give me one of the extra bowls(probably mistakes) that had been sitting around on the counter or under the heat lamp. None of them even remotely resembled the one I had ordered. I calmly asked for a refund. They did not refund the second bowl, one for my friend that they were able to make, even though I had been waiting for so long. I guess my wasted time is completely meaningless to them. The order taker was EXTREMELY rude to me throughout the whole process, especially at the end when I was explaining what happened. From what I heard from people who were able to try their food, it was awful. A chef friend of mine said that it was(and I quote) «really, really bad. Blandest, mushiest mac and cheese ever.» Please, Southern Fried Vegan, try to hire more efficient employees, ones that actually give a damn about their work and about customer service. They were all moving like snails and did not even apologize for their mistake. Had they just offered to just make my order, I wouldn’t have cared and would have gotten over it very quickly. I saw them serving mac ‘n cheese and greens a few minutes later, even though they had told me they were«out». Very strange indeed.

Been trying to track these guys down for awhile because I love vegan food and their menu just sounded SO exciting. To my disappointment I discovered today that their food is just«okay». Chickun and waffle sandwich wasn’t good at all. Waffle was too tough to cut through and chew and tasted burnt so I just gave up on eating it. Chickun was blah. The Mac N Cheese I actually liked and the cajun tators were GOOD! Expensive but if you regularly eat vegan you know that’s a given. At some places the expensiveness is worth it, but sadly this is not one of those places.

Alright. It’s vegan. It’s varied. It’s a truck-ish setup. So, the food. I have to say, for vegan it’s decent. Make no mistake though, it’s heavy and fried, but have tried the mac(liked it unlike some pp), their chkn burgers(delicious, but heavy with the fried), and their tacos. Which, by the way, has made me realize that i’m definitely NOT a fan of fried avocado. But, to those that are, it wasn’t too think so good fry to cado ratio. So, would I eat them every day? No. But as a treat, especially as a vegetarian, they’re nice.

Don’t even ask what compelled me to eat Vegan BBQ… but… Good points about Southern Fried Vegan: 1. They claim their food to have higher protein with 0 cholesterol 2. They support NKLA( ), local breweries & wineries Found them at Angel City Brewery in DTLA. I had a plate for $ 15 for 2 sliders and 2 sides, which I thought was a pretty fair deal. The fake«meat» tasted okay to me and in terms of texture, it was pretty decent. But what turned me off was their flat and sad-looking buns for sliders, tasteless and dry jambalaya rice, and non-crispy, soggy, flavorless«cajun fries.» The fried«chicken» slider tasted like a chicken sandwich from McDonalds(don’t know if that’s a positive comparison, but hey, it did.) Everything was just… blah. My sister and I finished the plate we shared and thought, «wow, that was a sad, unsatisfying meal» HAha. In LA, there is so much competition for good vegan/vegetarian options, SFV probably is one of the worst I’ve had. Was it foolish of me for trying vegan BBQ? I saw in the back that the girls were cooking with portable stoves and small frying pans. It’s sort of in a similar fashion when I cook when I go camping. TBH, it’s hard to make food«taste good» for the masses when it’s cooked like that. I’m sure it’s different inside a real kitchen, but that’s my take on it. Verdict is: Items that NATURALLY don’t have meat turned me off. Fake meat is aight.

Food bland. Would not buy again. Ratings are out of 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest. Chicken and Waffles Bland. Waffles bland and soggy. Chicken was flavorless. Fun, but flavors and textures need some additional love and care. 2.8 stars. Fried Avocado Taco Concept was fun, but Avocado was bland. I love avocado, but if you are going to make it the showcase in a taco, shouldn’t it have some flavor? Surprisingly the coleslaw in the taco was tasty. Taco was overall more fun that tasty. 3.2 stars. Coleslaw was probably closer to 3.5 stars. Philly Cheese Sandwich Meat cold and a tad rubbery. The cheese saved the sandwich. 3.2 stars Chicken Sandwich Fried chicken with some type of chipotle sauce and letuce. Not bad, not great, not enough sauce, not enough flavor. 3 stars. Jambalaya Bland. Rice dry. Not enough spices. Flavorless. 1.5 stars. Would definitely not get again. Mac and cheese Vegan mac-and-cheese is more often than not, not good. SFV is similarly not-good like everyone else’s meh mac n cheese. 2 stars Greens Nondescript. Not good. 2 stars Unlikely to return

These guys were at the Sunset Strip Music Festival and it was a total savior! I’m always apprehensive about the potentially limited vegan-friendly options at festivals. It was such a sigh of relief to find the Southern Fried Vegan booth. They were offering a combo of a sandwich and two sides for $ 13. I got the BBQ«Beef» sandwich and the BF got the Philly«Steak» sandwich. For our sides we both got Mac n Cheese and Jambalaya. The portion size of the sandwiches were slightly smaller than I would have liked them to be. But I was totally diggin’ on my BBQ«Beef» sandwich. The BF was totally diggin’ on his Philly«Steak» sandwich. Even when we switched to taste each other’s sandwiches, we immediately said«I like mine better!» while reaching back for our original sandwiches. The Mac n Cheese was boring, dry, and flavorless. More Mac than Cheese. Hot sauce helps but that’s no excuse for boring, dry, and flavorless Mac n Cheese. The Jambalaya was TASTY!!! Flavorful spices. This is one of those few reviews where I actually didn’t take a photo(WHA???). Yeah. It was nighttime, outdoors, and dark. Sorry folks. I know, this review feels naked without my hyperlinks. I’ll just have to track these guys down again during the daytime and take photos of my next meal.

Southern style fried american vegan food served from a traveling stand(foodtruck minus the truck). I enjoyed a fried vegan chicken slider at NKLA and look forward to trying more from the menu. The sandwich was a bit cold but I don’t think this was indicative. I will definitely try again.

One of the most idiotic questions I get asked about veganism: «Is there such a thing as an obese vegan?» Dumb question, of course there is. How? Eating tasty-but-bad-for-you food like the grub from places like Southern Fried Vegan. That being said SFV is still better for you than it’s meat and dairy packed counterparts, but anytime you are frying shit up it’s gonna go straight to that ass, vegetable protein or not. But sometimes healthiness be damned, I just want me some god damn comfort food. AmIRight? SFV catered an event I hit up and all in all I was pleased, there were some high points and some low. The Chik’n Sliders were really good: seasoned and fried Gardein chik’n, chipotle mayo, and avocado hummus. I could have eaten ten of those tasty bastards. Side dish wise the jambalaya was decent and the mac ‘n’ cheeze was just so-so, both of these I can and have made better myself. Nothing I had was«bad», but like I said if you’re going to be a southern food specialist you better knock out some serious mac ‘n’ cheeze. No joke, I make a mean vegan mac ‘n’ cheeze, but I’m not the one running a vegan food business. Dousing it in hot sauce helped, but still. A few issues in their actual prep ended up with missing menu items and some of the food being room temp or cold but I have faith, I believe they can do better. Would I eat it again? Yep. I’d just go after those sliders, side dishes be damned. I really want to give SFV another try, they have a number of items on their usual menu that I’d like to take a crack at. Fried ‘shrimp’, ‘crab’ cakes, Po Boy, ‘steak’ sandwiches… Sounds promising. I like that places like this exist. I eat«healthy» almost every damn day and there are times where yea, I just want to rip apart some fried goodness. Southern Fried Vegan is on a mission to spread that vegan comfort food love, I’m into it. Hopefully I’ll see them again, I’m looking forward to hopefully bumping this rating up soon.

My GF and I were pretty excited to hit up SFV’s food yesterday at the Alesmith Brewery. Unfortunately both of us walked away pretty disappointed. First off everything was cold. Cold Mac n Cheese and cold Jambalaya. I figured maybe that was just their style, although being from Louisiana I don’t remember cold Jambalaya every being served. My 2 sliders were alright but also had cold buns and the«meaty» insides were barely warm. So if they were hot they’d probably have been really good. I dont know if SFV pre makes all their food and then heats it up? I was willing to forgive my cold food and thought maybe it had come out really quick and we’d let it sit for a bit… but My GFs food was the worst offense. She had the Fried Avocado Tacos. First off the corn tortillas were not heated, just all limp and sad like they were just out of a fridge. Plus they were totally smothered in what tasted like Pace Picante Sauce, so that you couldnt even taste the rest of the taco. It was what a taco made by a 5 year old would look like. We had to actually scoop the gross canned salsa off the tacos to even get to the soggy flavorless avocado. Totally sad considering her and I had just had amazing fried avocado tacos the other night at a vegan event. I don’t think I would try them again.

Yuck, Yuck, Yuck! If you’re vegan, thinking about becoming a vegan, trying to convince someone to become vegan or at least try different food — AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOSTS! The person or yourself will be HIGHLY grossed out and disappointed. This place gives True Veganism a BADNAME. Well, its not a restaurant, its a food stand so they don’t have a specific place they work from all the time, they travel around. The food is cold and you can tell its not fresh, had a reheated aftertaste to it, and I think someone should alert the health department or at least verify this place is okay to conduct business, the looks of everything(utencils, storage, cookware etc) is absolutely FILTHY, NOTONE person wears gloves, nor WASHES their hands, not one time did I see anyone wash their hands or wash off utencils. I literally witnessed a worker walk into work and they wiped their hands on their dirty jeans and jumped right in preparing food, um, where did they just come from??? I honestly can’t even really go into further detail about everything here, just having to think back and remember things is making me wanna puke!!!

I tried SFV’s food for the first time at San Diego’s first vegetarian/vegan festival at Balboa Park and I thought the food was great! My boyfriend and I ordered the same combo plate with a fried«chicken» sandwich, spiced collard greens, and a side of quinoa and kidney beans. We both thought the food was amazing. The only downside was the line. It took us almost 45 – 60 minutes to get our order placed because they«were understaffed.» I do hope they have more people to help out with orders next time I purchase their food again!

It took an hour and a half to get through a line of twenty people. I order, which takes five minutes in and of itself, a grilled chicken sandwich and mac ‘n cheese. Then they lost my ticket, and so after waiting an additional twenty minutes after ordering, I finally inquired about why it was taking so long. Then the woman working the booth said«You ordered the grilled chicken? Well we don’t have any prepared so how about fried?» And at this point I was willing to agree to anything just to get out of there, so I said okay to the fried. Only two people were working there, and the cook was not wearing any gloves and the woman taking orders was wearing one on her right hand but not on her left(she was assisting with some of the food prep). So anyways, I finally get to eating my fried chicken and mac ‘n cheese — the noodles were underdone on the mac ‘n cheese and it overall lacked taste. The fried chicken was so-so, but obviously it was NOT worth an almost two hour wait. Definitely would not recommend. Terrible service, long wait, and mediocre food.

As a traveler, not the easiest place to find. The food was tasty, but it was sadly cold. I’m sure if we got there earlier it would have been more fresh … but the vegan BBQ is worthy effort. The owner/manager also mentioned that they go to local breweries and make faux fish tacos which sound fantastic, but I wasn’t able to track down the location on this trip. If you’re in the area and want to try some vegan comfort food — get it to go, and heat it up at home.

Sweet Jesus these guys are awesome! Ate their delicious food food for the second time last night at Aztec Brewing and had to write a review. I had the fried chuckun sandwich and it was amazing. It was hot, crispy, and had just the right amount of condiments. My hubby had the 2 beer battered avocado taco plate and lets just say he has not been as excited about a meal in a long time. The hot crispy outside contrasted with the soft creamy center of the avocados is divine He went back to order more tacos but ended up getting the Italian sausage sandwich for us to share. I went to get more beer, and he ate almost the entire sandwich by himself! Can’t wait to try them as SFV travels to the other local breweries so we can eat through the entire menu. As a vegan, I love being able to choose anything off a menu without worry, so we should all support this great team and their food. If you are not a vegan, go ahead and try them, guaranteed you will love it too!

I had Southern Fried Vegan BBQ for the first time in the Animal Rights Conference that happened in Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago! The food was fantastic! I had the amazing jambalaya and fried chicken sandwich!!! I’m sad that there isnt an actual restaurant that I can go to regularly to visit but believe me, If I spot their booth at an event… I’m there AND will look for events with their booth in there!
